Recently I had my first physical experience with a guy (I am bisexual.) and this song sums it up. It threw my mind into a cluster fuck but at the same time it was so much more than getting physical. It made me realize who I was...which is why this musical is so, so, so real, and good. Same with "Ring of Keys." Ring of Keys is not about attraction, it is about finding common ground with someone regarding an identity and being able to say "Yep. That is me, too!" Such a good musical! I swear 90% of the views on the songs in this soundtrack are legitimately me!

I was listening to someone talk about this song and realized that people read it as a comedic piece? and that it's written to be comedic?
I don’t think it was ever intended to be solely comedic, it definitely has its moments (like “thank you for not laughing- well, you laughed a little bit”, “who needs dignity” and the “dementedly huge high-interest loan” bit) and definitely highlights how awkward first times tend to be (and tbh Alison’s social awkwardness/her embarrassment over her own awkwardness is a bit of a running joke in the show anyway) but it’s mostly just meant to be a really truthful representation of her feelings and experiences and the internal conflict and stuff? Especially the bridge where there’s a direct parallel with Bruce’s song, they’re definitely not going for comedy there 😅 Obviously lines like “I’m changing my major to sex with Joan” do tend to get laughs from first time audiences because it’s a pretty random/unexpected sentence and she sings it so earnestly, but I don’t think the writers ever intended it to be a primarily comedic song at the cost of truthful storytelling! I guess it’s all up to interpretation whether the bits of comedy that are in it are enough to classify it as a comedy song overall, I can definitely see both sides
Ok so I work in a place where I constantly interact with kids but it's always super loud so I like to listen to my music while I work cause no one can hear it but me. Well I'm listening to my playlist on shuffle and at the same time this song comes on, this family of a mom, dad, and 6 year old daughter approach. I couldn't get to my phone the whole time they were there so im standing there talking to them while praying to God they don't hear it. Needless to say I was super distracted the whole time

Universe Artist they love that you have a passion for the show and know that song but it doesnt give them perspective of you. yes you are great at that song that character sings but since you sang a song that a character in the musical sings they dont see you as any over character and if someone 'better fitting" comes along youre not likely to get any role in said show. say if you audition for hairspray dont sing a song from hairspray. if you sing a different shows song they can see your voice as you and not just say penny in hairspray. youre giving them a wider variety of characters to cast you in if you're lucky
