Forgiveness is NOT what happened in the bible. That's a TRANSACTION. Forgiveness is the action of mercy - which is the WAIVER of the demand of justice for recompense. You don't simply demand someone ELSE pay the penalty. You LET IT GO. You don't forgive someone by saying 'Okay, John. I forgive you that money you owe me, but Mary better get it to me fast." No, that's a TRANSACTION. God could very well have simply FORGIVEN. In fact, Solomon implores him to do JUST THAT (1 Kings 8). No mention of a blood sacrifice necessary. There WERE no blood sacrifices in the Torah for intentional sin. The day of ATONEMENT, Yom Kippurim, is for CORPORATE sins, the sins of the people being laid on the scapegoat. And here's the kicker: How does a spirit being, one outside time and space, immaterial, incorporeal, quad-omni (presence, power, prescience, and compassion) get INJURED by a mere human and require recompense? It's all ridiculous and a play to human self-reflection of regret and hope.
