When I was in college, I used to cross the state of Ohio to Michigan to visit Dearborn every couple of weeks. I know no body there but always felt at home. Now, i am back to Saudi Arabia and still remember those good old days.

I'm fine with 2 cities full of wonderful Muslim people who go to work and contribute to every community they live in. My neighbors in East Dearborn were great to me even though I was neither Arab nor Muslim.
P.S: Many of the people I knew from there also served in the U.S. military. A few bad apples do not speak for an entire group of people.

I lived in Dearborn from ages 13-18 on the east end where the majority of my neighbors were Arab Muslims. As a teenager, I was very different and had my own style of dressing and acting. I certainly stuck out like a sore thumb due to my looks as well as the fact that I am neither off Arab American descent nor Muslim.
This didn't matter to my neighbors and classmates who quickly became my friends and welcomed me into their lives and homes even sharing meals with me because I grew up poor.. you know, the type of hospitality that you never forget. (btw, the food is top notch).
Anyway, I was there when Pastor Jones (the Quran burning pastor) showed up at the city hall. I was also there often after 9/11 due to the fact that we lived next door in Southwest Detroit at the time so it was a hop, skip, and a jump away to go to parks or go shopping.
I saw the ignorance of some people very up close and personal when they talked down on Dearborn and all of the wonderful people in it simply due to their culture, and religion. It was very disheartening hearing that and still is.
Made some of the best, most loyal friends that I have ever known while living there.
If you are visiting Michigan and come to Dearborn, please keep an open mind. You will find a lot of kind people there who have gotten a very unfair image in the U.S. I promise that you will encounter some incredibly hard working and loving people who are just trying to live their lives and raise their families in peace!
