It's always awkward to converse with a co-national in a second language, when you both know that the convo would be better in your first language. It feels forced (because it is). Also, Swedes hate meaningless chitchat. We only talk if we want to say something, rendering us useless at smalltalk.

To be fair, Backstrom tends to make this sort of stuff "difficult." He's generally very straight to the point and no nonsense with the media, and will either give the death stare or snark back at stupid questions, comments, etc. He really doesn't like the attention, which is why he's usually very happy to let Ovechkin take the spotlight.

@@encrypted3560 Even if Backstrom hadn't signed an extension, another skilled forward is the last thing the leafs need right now, let alone a centre. Save the cap for a decent backup and some defensive depth, you have two superstar centres... Plus there's nowhere for him to slot into the lineup anyway, what are you going to do bump Hyman or Johnsson to the third line?
