Thank you for breaking it down in an algebraic way. I immediately saw the questions and just began plugging in the choices till I got the right one. but seeing it broken down and how to do it if the choices are not provided is a huge help. I would really like to practice this more without the answer choices to get comfortable doing it the correct way.
Thanks Chris. I did it again! I added 6 back to the 154 and then multiplied by 5 to get 800. Again, it works but it does not help for the more difficult problems. I have to keep remembering to put it in that form.
This review of how to solve a word problem using an algebraic equation helped jog my memory of the many crucial steps in these problems. I liked how Chris pointed out he had to balance the equation at first (I forgot all of that)...and great reminder at the end to always double check work by subbing X back in. Thanks, Chris.
This is a great help! I am in desperate of a refresher. I have not used many of these concept in decades. This is very good to improve on the concepts of understanding key terms of word problems.
This time, I was lucky...eliminated A & D as five does not evenly divide into 944 or 744. Chose 800 and plugged it into the expression x/5 -154=6 and it worked. Is this a good approach?
word problems always overwhelm me so reviewing all these skills will help me to understand how to be less stressed and break it down easily and just hit the fundamentals!
Hi Chris, I was happy to have written the equation in the correct format. I always tell my students to check their work but forget to do it myself all the time! Thank you for the reminder. Many Thanks!
I really liked how you walked through and pulled the information out. I also liked how you walked through how to make the equation based on the words in the problem.
i like the way you're teaching us to break down the question by the words in it. it was so helpful to use an equation for this, just getting to that step is what is confiusing to me
In general, I really like that you always read the problem several times. Once for understanding, and once to extenuate the important parts (i.e. boxes around certain words and phrases). As a future teacher, this is a reading comprehension strategy and something that I really can connect with. It makes problem solving easier, as a whole.
Grateful for the vocabulary break down as the algebra is easy but the vocabulary and when to apply is what I need more practice on, it's been so long since using it! Thanks!
I forgot how much I actually liked solving equations. I paused the video before the explanations started and actually got the correct answer! Great review!
Very helpful explanation of how to break it down and figure it out. Like another person said, I did it backwards, but am really glad o be able to see how it is done algebraically.
Solving this problem by creating an equation is so much easier than substituting and dividing each number until you find one that fits although that is a way to solve. The first method you used was so much easier. I like how you said its good to go ahead and multiply out just to ensure that you get the right answer. Great problem!
I usually have a difficult time with word problems but I was able to easily do this on my own before you worked through it. I think that i need to work more on going back and checking my answer because that is when I could make a mistake and choose the wrong answer, so I will definitely have to work on that.
This video was very helpful. I made a careless error that I didn't see until you solved and double checked. I loved the double checking. Great reminder.
Looking at this problem, I was overwhelmed. I followed your steps and solved it so much easier. I also really thought the double check method is so important.
I originally did each answer out to find the answer on my own. Using the equation is a much faster way to get the problem so I will remember this when taking the MTEL.
This was a straightforward problem to solve. I was able to do it on my own before the video. The video was a good reminder about balancing out the two sides of the equation to solve for x.
I did this problem by working the math backwords. I added 154 plus 6, then multiplied by 5. Bascially the same as what Chris did, but without the unknown x.
Thank you!! Pulling apart the most important information from these word problems is what is most important.
This was a new way to look at the problem. I liked the way he walked us through each step.
