    Michael Quimby and I used to drop by and service the organ once or twice a year. A lovely little organ. There used to be a cannonball from the Battle of Lexington lodged in the wall outside the organ.

    From the stoplist;
    "Younger members of the congregation are reportedly impatient with the limited tonal resources of this instrument,
    but the church is so steeped in history the organ seems certain to be retained. [1968]"
    It HAS been retained, the younger members will just have to get over it and learn how to deal with things.

    10 years later electric blowers were introduced greatly simplifying organ construction, especially on smaller instruments. I built one similar to this one (was a real learning experience) about 30 years ago.

    This has already been noted, but the key action employing stickers pushing down onto the pallets is exactly the same concept as in a reed organ windchest. It means that there is no roller board to spread the action sideways, so the chest spacing of pipes has to be the same as the key spacing unless larger pipes are tubed off. It's a nice simple action design and quite reliable. It would be interesting to see how the octave coupler was done.

    That's a cute, bold little organ! the key action is like my reed organ- using stickers to push the pallets open.

    I just LOVE this series! The church has suffered a loss of musicianship in it pursuit of ALL things modern…It doesn’t have to be ‘either or’…😳‼️

    Not much to work with, but a good organist can "draw out" the music from small instruments like this.
    Note to the people who go around making these videos: It might be a good idea to suggest some dusting and vacuuming of innards and under the pedals before the video crew arrives. I know it's like telling a guy he has halitosis, but somebody gotta do it.

      Stop right there, these folks are not paid to clean other people's organs or anything more than video them for free viewing here.

      @@HobbyOrganist no offense, but that was not the intent; didn't even imply that. My point is this: If I knew my organ was going to be on video, I'd at least vac under the pedals.

    Does anyone know what hymn is being played

    • @garysmith394
      @garysmith394 2 роки тому +1

      Yes, the tune name of the hymn at the beginning of the video is "Land of Rest", which is used for various hymn titles, including "Lord, When I Came Into This Life" (Presbyterian Hymnal). Other titles include "Begin, My Tongue, Some Heavenly Theme" and "Jerusalem, My Happy Home". It is a Traditional American Melody, arranged by Annabel M. Buchanan 1938. The tune played at the end of the video is "Truro", which is used for hymn titles such as "Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates" (Advent) and "Christ Is Alive" (Easter) and quite a few other hymns in various hymnals. I hope this helps.

    Very, extremely hard pass on that organ. No color, no stops, one manual. Nothing. No thank you!!!

      No one is holding your feet to the flames. And actually, the fact that you think the organ is unworthy because of it's small size and limited tonal resources is certainly more a reflection on YOUR lack of capabilities than those of the organ! Then again. . .your UA-cam channel has nothing. NOTHING! So what qualifies you to judge the capabilities of any pipe organ? I'm not sugar-coating anything either!!!

      What Is it with some organists where every organ needs to be a 3+ manual AGO standard concert organ. Enjoy the little things in life and the joy of having to work around an instrument you are unfamiliar with and have a little fun for Pete’s sake. Not to mention this was probably the best the Church could do seeing as how it was made only a year after the civil war ended.

      Kudos to small non-standard organs with reduced pedal boards or maybe none , these one manual instruments can perform a ton of organ literature and creates the oppertunity to seek our music that can be rendered musically on them.Please,Please continue to feature these organs in your presentations.Many a church service has been played on simaler organs for many years. Thank You,sincerely Paul W. Mills

      At 1:12 they discuss the stops. "No stops"? Don't be a blithering twit, Jim.

      How small minded. A truly good organist can do amazing things with anything thrown at him, be it the Wanamaker organ or a melodica. I once led my former congregation on my accordion when our organ bit the dust. I basically used it like a chord organ that Sunday, and it worked just fine. Why so many organists have to be elitist beyond me.
