- In Game Three of the 1987 World Series, Minnesota got an unexpected boost with six shutout innings from Les Straker, and held a 1-0 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh. But rather than ride Straker for another inning they went to the bullpen, Juan Berenguer was torched for three runs in 1/3 of an inning, and the Cardinals won 3-1.
Great game! I'm surprised this doesn't have more views. I'm a Twins fan, but I'm glad the Cards won three at home and made it a series to remember. Pena is an awesome catcher, cool to watch him drop down to help give the pitcher a lower target.
ZacharyBinx86 Kelly came under some fire here for pulling Straker with a shutout going after six, but truth is this was the right move. Straker was inexperienced and unpredictable (and 2-7 on the road that season) so six shutout innings was far more than Kelly ever would have expected of him, and more importantly, Berenguer had been lights out in the playoffs and there was no reason not to go to him. It was a good move that just backfired. But statistically Berenguer was much more likely to hold that lead than Straker going multiple times through the lineup. Berenguer said later that the problem was he was throwing too many fastballs here. He pitched again in Game 6 and switched his pitches up more and threw three shutout innings.
Wish we had all the games of all the World Series from the 70's on like this. Awesome stuff.
Al Michaels has got to return doing World Series games!
Funny 1-minute sequence starting at 2:00:50 of the placement of Oquendo, at first questioned by the commentators, then they are immediately silenced as the ball is hit directly at him - didn't have to move his feet even a step.
Twins strikeouts:
41:31 Straker K’s Tudor
56:54 Straker K’s Ford
1:08:02 Straker K’s Tudor again
1:10:54 Straker K’s Coleman
2:03:25 Schatzeder K’s McGee

The Twins clearly looked out of their element at the old Busch stadium. A park that was tailored for the Cardinal pitching staff and the running game of Coleman, McGee, and Smith.
They are moving Oquendo right where he isn't gonna hit. And just like that we are unbelievably dumb LOL
Great series. I forgot the temperature was in the 40's.
And why does every Ump look like Don McSherry? R.I.P.
Al Michaels (PBP) Tim McCarver & Jim Palmer (C)
Twins Moments:
33:19 Laudner’s single
38:32 Gladden’s single
1:01:42 Laudner’s double
1:24:14 Brunansky’s RBI single
1:59:29 Puckett’s triple
2:06:32 Laudner throws out Ford at 2nd
Tudor was a great pitcher.
why is peter griffin from family guy yelling at whitey ? 2:42
Umpires (Game 3)
HP Greg Kosc (AL)
1B John McSherry (NL)
2B Ken Kaiser (AL)
3B Terry Tata (NL)
LF Dave Phillips (AL) (CC)
RF Lee Weyer (NL)
You can tell McCarver & Palmer were not crazy about each other having to share color commentary duties...they're enjoying needling each other....that's why 3 man booths don't work, in sports or wrestling.
Actually, the Michaels-McCarver-Palmer team was great because McCarver actually shut up most of the time.
@@BrianONEILL-qf2cs A true relief.
Wow, check out lawless and he's home run trot ! Act like you been there before! Lol
