*listens to the second one*
Me: Septette for the Dead Princess, for sure!
*it's actually Gensokyo Millenium*
Caved Johnson loves ASMR yep you're correct the BGM's full name is *Gensokyo Millenium ~ History of the moon*
everything sounds better when its touhou.. dont know why
@@MMock actually I know some of this first before finding touhou
-hentai touhou lol-
This so interesting! I actually once got pointed on by my parents that Lullaby of a Deserted Hell sounds a lot like that Simon and Garfunkel song when they heard me play it on the piano. Funny.
Hey Epre Troll! My mom said that when i played lullaby of desert hell too =)))
This video is like a game... Where we must identify each theme before the answer comes.
i could only tell the resemblance of about half, even after the counterpart showed up, and that's considering i already knew all of the touhou songs listed.
and sometimes our answers are better than the ones given by the video !
Touhou music is like a upgraded version of originals
@@Doctor_Futebol Yeah, is that (2 years ago I didn't know too much about music in general)
ZUN is a genius, no doubt. It's amusing to see similarities between the songs he made and many popular songs.
Except lullaby of deserted hell, and maybe some others that he claimed to be a remix.
4:35 Super Mario 3D World was released on 21st November 2013. Touhou 14 was released on 12th August 2013.
Or they just took inspiration from him at the current time. I know for fact that Zun was presented to make a Mario Maker level and if it was sponsorised by Nintendo, maybe they saw what he was doing for Touhou 14 and got inspired by Seija’s theme
Reimu for smash

Reimu for smash
I find it crazy that I know a lot of these songs by heart but I really couldn't point out what song they are probably similar to until you point it out
You have some crazy good ears. Good job!
7:03 What the fuck is this? Japanese Moskau?
when some of songs started i was like "Holy crap this is familiar-sounding."
Mountain Of Faith was absolutely composed while ZUN was binging on old Japanese music. Makes so much sense.
"wild arms is a cool 90's anime"
Same thing as calling touhou an anime lol
Kind of wish they had the dates of each song listed. It would be interesting to see the gaps in the timeline. Its always amusing when you look at the history of something and see how it may have been influenced from the past. Music, cooking, technology... all keep growing because of past inspirations.
I’m surprised Septette for the Dead Princess is not here. It’s pretty similar to Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata 3rd Movement.
wow my mind exploded when i realized tomboyish girl is a pokemon reference XDD - how could i not notice that?? ._.
Cirno be like "I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was"
*meanwhile at the SDM, Patchouli the purple blur*
Hello.
This video has become very popular and I am thankful for that. I do not know when I'll start making a followup episode, but I know I'm going to exclusively put things I've discovered myself or thanks to the comment section (that means that if I'm not the first to discover a certain similarity, that would technically not be my problem.) I might not only make episodes on Touhou Project, but also other games.
I have a few things to say:
• First of all, I apologize for not having credited the artists whose drawings appear in this video. I used them without their permission. Since I haven't started making it, I can see myself drawing my own thumbnails before editing the next video, this would be a fresh way to start making actual videos from now on. So, expect that.
• I'm also going to learn how to edit videos more efficiently, I have gotten a few tools that would make my videos more eye-appealing, but I haven't started learning how to use them yet.
• I've learnt a lot of things about music and realized that some of the "similarities" I've put in this video are actually common musical patterns that have nothing worth mentioning. I have a lot of things to check and that requires time.
• Finally, I am not accusing ZUN of plagiarism, any statement the audience comes up with will automatically become their own, not mine. This video was not made to say "who copied who" as some similarities could be anachronistic.
Sorry for the delay, lots of things happened in real life and UA-cam is not my main concern.
I am still open for suggestions.
Thank you.
@@josefanon8504 it's pretty common knowledge that septette is inspired from sonata pathetique
Yet every Touhou Music become iconic them self... most of them somewhat also reminds me with some songs (especially cirno's tomboyish themes) but their instruments actually pretty amazing.
By the way, I learnt that Wild Arms was, in fact, not an anime a few weeks after uploading the video. I was in a hurry making it and my comment on it being a "cool 90's anime" was not very professional, I apologise for the inconvenience.
12:45 Fire stone
Zun : How about all the *PhilosopherStone?*
"she said, don't make others" from Evangelion sounds exactly same at "Satori Maiden ~ 3rd eye"
3:18 KILLED ME 🤣 I was like "...I know EXACTLY what touhou song this is" LMAOOO
5:07 Aww, I thought it was Broken Moon from SWR.
8:35 Same thing but for EoSD's stage 1 theme.
05.07 iam right!! Princess inada is scoldin me!!And a half of broken moon
Sophie Xelia Gan-SeiPiececha
Native Faith with Zinnia's battle theme from Pokémon ORAS.
i must've spent too much time listening to touhou since i did get both songs correctly (and by correctly i mean according to this video)
everyone:
I thought it was Septette
Did not expect Sonic's theme to have a similar Touhou music.
In the topic of Sonic music, Lost World had two seemingly Touhou-based music. "Cublicated" (Hidden World Zone music) has the same but slower tone similar to EoSD's extra stage and "Battle with Zavok" has similarities with Satori's theme.
Most of these only have similar chord progressions, but there are a few in there that are definitely close.
Suggestion: Opening guitar riff of "Through the Fire and Flames" is very similar to the beginning of "Now, Until the Moment You Die"
Glad I'm not the only who noticed the Wild Arms similarity.
Also Wild Arms isn't an anime, it's a game.
I would say that the second song sounds more like Remilia's theme.
Satori's theme is actually"She Said, 'Don't Make Others Suffer for Your Personal Hatred.'"
Just gonna say; Super Mario 3D world's release date was 21 Nov 2013. Double Dealing character's release date was August 12th 2013.
So Nintendo would have copied ZUN there.
2nd: You thought I was Septette for the Dead Princess? But it was I! *Gensokyo Millenium!*
*cocks gun* am I the only one who thinks the Wild arms theme sounded like Gensokyo Millennium and not Septette for the dead princess
As soon as I heard THAT part, I was like "wait, this is... Eirin theme?".
It actually does sound like "Gensokyo Millennium ~ History of the Moon" but slowed down to a certain pace.
The only one I guessed correctly was Chen's theme.
I'm disappointed in myself.
So many times I'm like, I know this song, I know this song, I know this song, start overthinking and guess wrong even though I knew the song.
The only one i guessed incorrectly was Okuu. And I just forgot Candid Friend
12:02 Patchy gotta go fast but she's too anemic
As a person who knew GD first, I got pretty mad when I realised that a song that I like is secretly someone's theme in Touhou.
For example:
Galaxy Collapse (Heian Alien)
Yatagarasu (Nuclear Fusion)
I was too stupid to realize for a few days after I got into touhou. I was like "huh utsuho's theme and yatagarasu are extremely similar"
I have a crippling addiction to listening to touhou music similarities fjfjf
A couple I've noticed on my own:
The beginning of "Now, Until the Moment You Die" sounds like a section of N's final battle theme in Pokemon Black and White. It might be in his normal theme, too, but I don't remember for sure.
A particularly interesting one is that the beginning of "Strawberry Crisis" sounds similar to part of Jack Atlus' battle theme from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds! This coincidence never ceases to amuse me.
Assuming Zun got inspired by those reference, I understand he could be inspired by those game, anime or Japanese songs cus its possibly his interest, but how does he know foreign (English) artists songs? Just amazing
First song in your video was the 2nd most blatant one I had heard (after Septette) like 10 years ago and I came hoping to find it here after searching for so long.
It happened! Thank you!!!
"Fordidden codex" from cytus/deemo and... if not obvious, "Nuclear fusion".
This is great, but anyone ever notice that Flowering Night sounds exactly like The Trooper by Iron Maiden?
even the original version of Luna Dial does, except the riff is made symmetrical.
This is fantastic. So many great melodic similarities, and you gave some cool new songs to look up to.
This gets me wondering which ones were intentional; to know that you'd have weigh the likelihood of Zun knowing about those songs (more likely on the Japanese ones) with what time the songs were released and when his games were released. I like to think a few are coincidence
How about The Grimoire of Alice from Touhou 05: Mystic Square and Bloody Tears from Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest? Because the former definitely seems to be inspired by the latter.
EVERYTIME I LISTENED TO PIGS I THOUGHT THE SAME THING
FINALLY, I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE
I think the best takeaway one can get from this, is that ZUN created the ultimate musical culture melting pot. Where tunes from all around the globe collide to give birth to masterpieces and real bangers, which spread back it's influence to the whole world again.
Whenever I blindly listen to Touhou arangements I think Heian Alien arangements are acutaly Castlevania ones. I think there are muhc more of them out there.
Coincidence?
I don't think so!
Hotel?
Trivago!
Wow!
Well noticed!
Especially the last one with Per Gynt was a suprise for me^^
It is very nice, how your found out about it!
Like it!!
Lol for the caption with "Fate of 60 years part". That caption reminded me of Danzai!
Also, surprised at the Satori one. Wasn't able guess that at all. Same for the Wind god girl one.
The most shocking one was definitely cirnos theme. A lot of these were fairly easy to guess, but being a long time Pokémon fan I just never made that connection. Really cool stuff.
weird to see anything about touhou after all these years, but I really appreciate this bit. Thank you!
Sorry if you've already got a lot of people pointing this out, but 2 of the Souls in the song, "Your Best Nightmare" Sound similar to both Hartmann's Youkai Girl & Bad Apple!! (Touhou 4 ver.), with the Green Soul being Koishi's theme and the Yellow soul being the Stage 4 theme. So do you think you could maybe include that in the next vid?
Touhou is like the better version of this songs lmao
Ah yes the similarities.
This always happens, music that is so similar that it's uncanny.
ZUN always does references and take inspiration from a lot of places and he mixes them together, some consciously and some unconciously.
Maybe some people took inspiration from him to do his own things (it depends on the date of course)
Btw, this is already old but I find a lot of similarities from Sekibanki's theme with Megaman 2 - Willy 2 /watch?v=CY1vkLkyROk
I think wild arms is closer to sepette for dead princess than history of the moon.
i think it was pretty close to history of the moon.
if you want septette for the dead princess, there's a bethooven song that is JUST LIKE it.
BattousaiHBr yeah... Because Zun literaly used "Piano sonata No.8 "pathetique" mov.3" for Remilia's theme.
It's literally 1:1 like history of the moon, just slightly slower and different instruments
The Taa taa taa taa part at around the 10 minute mark is a well known progression called the Andalucian Cadence so Zun isnt necessarily referencing 007 but just using a common musical technique
People have to remember the years each touhou game came out, as I bet a lot of these songs ZUN 'copied' came out after the game they're being compared to
Mike Travis nope, DDC (August 12, 2013 ) came out a few months before super Mario world 3D (November 21, 2013)
@Normal Playz "they're not saying ZUN copied, They're just stating the similarities."
^ bless this post
@@lecorbak i am so confused wheres the „copied“ coming from thats all over the comments?
loved the video, and the ff song at the end xD
Are we allowed to submit similarities withing the Touhou series? Because I've noticed similarities in the opening parts of Strawberry Crisis and Nuclear fusion, as well as Flowering Night and Tank Girl's Dream
At 10:38 , the realisation sets in. At 10:48 , the trauma sets in from Orin and her spam.
12:35 fire stone + locked girl that has elemental magic+ fire is an element ...
it's not a coincidence right?
Funny, I had my bet on a Renesans music race on the Subterrain Animasm 4th stage.
Thank you for the video!
Angel’s legend from HRTP is a reference to Heart of Fire from the original Castlevania.
Wind God Girl sounds very similar to Crabbucket by Kos.
Here's mine:
- "Vanishing Dream ~ Lost Dream" and "Polyushka Polye" (Or maybe also "Kimi o Nosete")
- "Fate of Sixty Years" and Japan's "Hatafutte Parade."
- "Lost Emotions" and "Philinion's Resurrection" (Interestingly, the fanmade game The Last Comer was made before Hopeless Masquerade)
- "Satori Maiden ~ Third Eye" and "Happy Maria"
Ps: I don't know why, but "History of the Moon", "Walking the Street of a Former Hell" and "Innocent Treasures" reminds me of some old chinese televesion series.
ZUN is Araki but instead of using title songs, ZUN used songs as sample for his game soundtrack
For the song containing DDC and SM3DW, it was SM3DW that made the similarity as DDC was released on August 12 2013, and SM3DW's earliest release date was November 21 2013.
As a Gundam fan as well as a fan of Satori, this made me happy.
2:24
"Perseverance and Determination"
Oh f*ck, the Undertale fans are coming
I will still cry at Touhou music.
6:20 Reminds me of DBZ :^)
When I saw the title, I was expecting this to be a case like Kenji Yamamoto. I'm still not entirely comfortable with it, but ZUN at least seems to have done more to differentiate his music from the inspirations than Yamamoto did.
Most of these make a lot of sense, but I got Zeta Gundam, Hikaru Genji, and Apocalyptica right off the bat!
Great work compiling these!
Sorry for all this spam, you done great job finding a lot of references what I was unable to find before
It's amazing to see how rich was ZUN music influences
I wonder if you're taking suggestions or not, but I'd like to share something I found recently. Ringo's theme, Pumpkin of September, has that repeating piano part that is similar to the repeating strings in "Attack on Tarir", soundtrack from Guild Wars 2
/watch?v=JjHPGJ3wr5E (Pumpkin of September) at 0:17
/watch?v=v-fee1rP48I (Attack on Tarir) at 0:20
Also, Reisen's theme is also pretty much similar to Aqua's "Butterfly" :)
This was a treat to watch.
A little subversion: a portion of Endless Explosions from Kirby Triple Deluxe sounds like Locked Girl ~ The Girl's Secret Room, from EoSD.
One other Satori Maiden similarity. Mt Rubble (Scrapyard theme) from Nuclear Throne.
that castlevania one kinda reminds me of "voile the magic library"
Sonic Casino park and dark pegasus sako's theme will forever be my fave comparison
I had this feeling in the back of my mind that I HAVE heard these songs before. I knew I wasn't crazy!!
But ZUN made the Legend Of Tohno song when he was drunk. So how can it possibly be a similarity to Final Fantasy VI?
VVell it vvas just pointing out similarities to other songs not saying that ZUN took Inspiration for all of them, some of them are just coincidences. But good connection!
@@vvaveflakz
"Himorogi, Burn in Violet", that stage 4 theme of Story of Eastern Wonderland has a similar tune to "The Decisive Battle" from the same FF
I may be late as shit but I really think Shinmyoumaru's theme (Kobito of the Shining Needle ~ Little Princess) is similar to Mirror, Mirror, Weiss' song in her RWBY White trailer.
Mafagafo except the white trailer came out quite a few months before Double Dealing Character, which is Shinmyoumaru's first appearance iirc.
10:32 Song of the Sun is actually from another Gallician Celtic band called Luar Na Lubre, the original is called "O son do Ar" meaning sound of the air.
Nice vid. Could be used for musical guessing games
Dammit! I almost nailed Satori Maiden ~ 3rd Eye, but changed at the last second to Heartfelt Fancy..
13:22 actually sounds like the boss theme from Super Mario Bros 3
9:01 it is also similar to The extra boss of touho 5: Mystic Square
We are still waiting for part 2
The similarity is that all of them sound good
Zun is actually known for spreading hidden (and obvious) references, so some of the themes might be actual intentional nod to other compositions.
I wonder if he meant to quote In the Hall of the Mountain King for Utsuho's theme, it would be VERY fitting.
B'ars NI one of my favorite references comes from wild and horned hermit vol2
Also; referenceing old media.. Gensokyo is a land of the forgotten.
ZUN is one of us, he loves pop culture and video games
ZUN, truly a man of culture
