Good to see fine oriental ceramics being keenly pursued, in sharp contrast to early English porcelain which is now looking quite neglected and absurdly cheap.
I wonder if the kiln stops making certain styles when they can’t export. EG war breaks out in Europe/other markets. Any economic or social reasons. Bad storms, lost shipments, death of a monarch. Now wares they formerly produced don’t sell so easily. Merchants can’t shift high end porcelain to stores or middlemen. They tell the potters/kiln, I can’t take more yellow flowered bowls. Seems logical. A % are broken over time, hey presto, a rare bowl.
I thought there has always been a lot of contention around whether imperial or mark and period Xianfeng pieces even exist? Seems a crazy price for something than could quite well be Republic period bowls marked Xianfeng.
Thank you, an interesting pair of videos on Rosebery auction.
Thanks 4 your time, Peter.
