The bigger wheels are known to suck power as the load/rev ratios are considerably de-optomised. You effectively reduce the rev range and are half a gear ratio off optimum pretty much all the time. A diff ratio change is required to carry out a fair comparrison (or put the 200 back onto 33"wheels.)

I was thinking swap the wheels over and redo the tests, or fit both vehicles with identical wheel and tyre setup. It's hard to see the V8 dusted, but the sound wins every time.

    • @ianweal3081
      @ianweal3081 2 місяці тому

Yep, that's 2 advancements in vehicles over the previous V8's.
      New V6 300 eats up the V8 200.
      2.8 4 cylinder 70 eats up V8 70.
In both cases engines are more advanced, but upgrade to 10 speed auto in 300 and addition of 6 speed auto to 70 would be primary difference.
Both new models putting V8's in the past, historical beasts.
The 4 banger is really showing up how poultry the V8 was in the 70's, but I knew it was poor from owning one. The old 2.5 Triton went better than my V8.

Give these boys some slack, no one has modified and documented a 300 as much as these boys... The 200 is pushing big power, the 300 has potential to produce more power per cc purely because of the 300 cylinder head design.. Look how laid back the intake and exhaust valves are on the V6 vs the V8.. It's a 3cyl Yamaha yaris looking head on The diesel. Its all about the flame front in the combustion chamber.

2" makes a huge difference, especially if the 33s are ATs and the 35s are MTs. Also building up the boost on the 300 it's like cheating, the race sound have been done from idle. Finally I'd like to see the rigs out on a scale to get some concrete weight numbers as built.

Jason that was awesome I loved the knowledge I didn't know, also loved four-wheel drive doughnuts how awesome🤣
I was recently Towing a 2ton trailer with a 4-cylinder 2.0L turbo diesel Captiva, it was maxing out at 110 km flat, I thought there was something wrong with the engine I went up the really long steep Hill on the Capricorn Highway just before Blackwater and it dropped back to 80km along the steep Hill, also had high temperature's when constantly flat to the floor at 110 & had to keep dropping back to 100km and wait for the temperature to drop, that was extreme heat coming from the gearbox area through the floor, at least I know this is normal now for the Car to struggle towing heavy weight and have high temperature's when flat for 4 hours straight.
Jas That was a very interesting episode, thank you for the knowledge I love listening to to you you know your stuff and know how to tell the story and information correctly could listen to you all day everyday man good one cool dude.🤙👍👍

I dont get the point of people doing these head to head battles but they have dufferent tire sizes lol. Its just a mute point and the whole experiment means nothing.
Put the 200 on 33s or put the 300 on 35's, go get them both tuned and do it all again. I would expect the 300 to still win due to the gearbox but for such a big debut show, you would think they could get these basic things right.

without even watching your video i will say this...the Last Man Standing will not be the 300 series! The V8 is detuned and will last a hell of a lot longer than the over tuned 300 series v6 engine blasting its guts out trying to put out the sort of performance it needs to in order to beat the V8. There is no denying that and at the end of the day, 8 cylinders is going to outlast 6 doing the same amount of work and that is what makes the 200 series a far better proposition.
This is also why 79 series toyotas are so popular for touring...the engine (as you know is identical to the 200 series minus the twin turbo) is bullet proof and so bloody reliable...these v8's will be running years after the v6's have shit themselves!
Should compare both on either 33's or 35's too as running the v6 on 33's makes a big difference in acceleration over the other car on 35's (even with the V8)
Im know im being critical, but that aside...i love your show and watch it regularly.

Yesterday on CarSales - I saw a chopped and canopy built 300 with most of the "fruit" for sale for $278K - that is unreal?!. You could build a Zombie Apocalypse NPS for the same but it is much bigger, tows more, and has twice the GVM etc......And can hold 6 people etc. I am retiring soon, and I am gonna build a NPS dual cab rig, my budget is 220K - that includes 1kw+ 48v Safiery solar, a Rainman desalination unit, and be able to be 100% off -grid ANYWHERE for as long as we want. Plus going to carry a tinny on top with 30HP and a fold down console, plus 2 x UBCO bikes. And we will also tow a boat. Love the 200/300/79, but for the price - a NPS is 10 times better and cheaper!!!!!. Only benefit of the latter Toyota cars is they can negotiate the tough narrow extreme trails better, and also the diesel costs are a bit less.

Anyone can modify a car and results with enough money. Try using what most people would use for a true comparison. We would truly like the see a fair comparison that isn't skewed either way.

My daily is a Grand Cherokee, which I love driving and despite the bad press it gets has been very reliable, now with 300Kkm. Am thinking about a new Lexus 550 with the 3.4tt V6 as my new daily tho.

For most families with kids using the bench seat in the rear, the 300 has a transmission hump which effectively makes it a 4 seater. The flat floor on the 200 plus the significantly extra legroom and near flat floor can accommodate 5 adults a lot more comfortably.
The 200 Series wagon can even fit two 40 litre refrigerators with the 3rd row seats in use. Zero chance of doing that in the 300 Series, so where did all that interior space go?
If you want to install a roofrack, the 200 Series is way superior in terms of maximum roof loading capacity.
The 300 Series has a more flexible gearbox with the extra 4 forward gears. If this gearbox can be fitted to a 200 Series, it would be simply awesome.

You got rid of the best towing and heavy use vehicles on the planet, your F250, you would hit 160km up that hill, hard to advertise as the toughest tourers, they are both mid range at best.

The day the haul trucks go to a smaller motor to pull big loads is the day I would look at a highly strung v6 .
200 is also a heavier car
    Not a true comparison

Really need to put them both on 33’s to be fair and you forgot to mention fuel efficiency when towing that’s what people are interested in. Everyone knows the v8 will sound better.

Sorry Jase, 300 wave the hands 320 HP. 300 may be 301 HP is a wave of the hands, 20 HP is a bit deal and a lot of money to get. One can spend $1000s to gain 20 HP not a vague maybe mate.

This is null and void with 2 inch difference in tires. No doubt the 300 is a weapon but why do a test where you're handicapping the older vehicle haha
