- "Do Nothing till You Hear from Me" (also written as "Do Nothin' Til You Hear From Me") is a song with music by Duke Ellington and lyrics by Bob Russell. It originated as a 1940 instrumental ("Concerto for Cootie") that was designed to highlight the playing of Ellington's lead trumpeter, Cootie Williams. Russell's words were added later.
Billie's accompanied by Harry Edison (trumpet), Ben Webster (tenor saxophone), Jimmy Rowles (piano), Barney Kessel (guitar), Joe Mondragon (bass), and Alvin Stoller (drums). Recorded in Los Angeles, August 14, 1956. (Verve Records)
Do nothin' till you hear from me
Pay no attention to what's said
Why people tear the seam of anyone's dream
Is over my head
Do nothin' till you hear from me
At least consider our romance
If you should take the word of others you've heard
I haven't a chance
True, I've been seen with someone new
But does that mean that I'm untrue?
When we're apart, the words in my heart
Reveal how I feel about you
Some kiss may cloud my memory
And other arms may hold a thrill
But please do nothin' till you hear it from me
And you never will
Do nothin' till you hear from me
Pay no attention to what's said
Why people tear the seam of anyone's dream
Is over my head
Do nothin' till you hear from me
At least consider our romance
If you should take the word of others you've heard
I haven't a chance
True, I've been seen with someone new
But does that mean that I'm untrue?
When we're apart, the words in my heart
Reveal how I feel about you
Some kiss may cloud my memory
And other arms may hold a thrill
But don't do nothin' till you hear it from me
And you never will
Do nothin'
Do nothin'
Absolutely fabulous.
Magic...🌹
That's the word. . .Magic.
Omg she just rips my soul out with her singing of this song. A cloud just came over me and it began to rain when she opened her mouth . Thank you Billie and rest in peace ❤
Greatest singer ever. Man or woman.
That timing , like an endless holliday.....
⚜ TH💐NK YOU FOR THE M🎧SIC ⚜🕊
My favorite song sang by Billie
interesting.... in my opinion, she really cant sing this one.
Miraculously vocal by Billie I think! How does she do it? Very nice version by her and the orchestra.
Lady Day and Ben Webster...does it get any better?
This is an example of a talented individual whose life was shortened by many of the demons that haunted the jazz world. A very good performance.
❤🎉😊
A maior das maiores cantoras de todos os tempos , insuperável maravilhosa unica Billie Holiday
OWWoooeee Lester Young!!!
Ben Webster
Billie Holiday IS the correct spelling-just checked one of my old Verve albums to be sure. Anyway, just enjoy the song....
Yeah I know, a couple of tapes I had gave the wrong spelling, but I like the 2 lls. Gorgeous performance anyway.
+Bernard Smith. Robert Palmer's version is pretty cool, too. But Billie made everything she sang sound better, and Lester Young is her perfect accompanist.
+Mimi Mocha. oops!!! not Lester Young on this cut...my bad🎷!
You didn't say it was. You wrote 'Lester Young is her perfect accompanist.' I wouldn't argue with you although Ben Webster does a great job on this track.

Far Niente is vineyard advice. I did w/e I could, ighasfohl, but, it was the appeal of the, I suspect, 6-monoacetylmorphine, and I was not government, I was not street, I was only a man in love.
Deepest love.
Some of them go crazy before they ever give you a child. Some of them are so crazy before they kill the baby. What you gonna do? That your baby?!?
