G'Day Rob. Not trying to suck up to you but the only reason I have joined up with UA-cam was to subscribe to your posts and so I could comment. You are a champion mate! I have watched many of your videos over the past year and found them to be very well put together, easy to follow, informative and with no BS. I have learned so much from you and have told anyone I know who'd be interested to have a look at your stuff. We live in the Perth hills and have adopted some of your ideas with our raised vegie beds and wicking boxes. Just finished building a chook palace for 3 or 4 lucky chooks and saw how you made both the feeders and nipple drippers. I love making something rather than just going out and buying it. Allright, better get out there and make a feeder. Cheers Rob, really appreciate your effort.
+Mark Hadden Hi Mark & thanks mate. Am glad the clips have given you a few ideas to play with yourself mate. Would like to know what you think of the feeders after they've been in for a while. Cheers Mate & all the best.
I built one and viola! The damned pigeons are gone and the feed lasts a lot longer. I used one of those Rubbermaid totes and installed 4 feeders in it. Thank you so much! Yours IS DEFINITELY the best video on this subject. The one with the guy and his wife trying to be humorous was ANNOYING! Thanks again!
Thanks mate. Hamish from @Naughty Goat Farm here in Aus deserves all the credit on the design. Is quite amazing to see how far around the world the idea has gone. Cheers & have a top one.
I made this a few days ago and the pigeons have not found the pallets yet, so its saving pallets already. The 3 chickens they have found it easy to use as well. What a great device.
+Andrew McDermott Nice one Andrew. Have found that the pigeons have to make do with the small amount that ends up on the ground here. I don't mind them cleaning it up as it's less food out to attract rodents. Have a great one.
If i just feed the chickens pallets, their less likely to flick out the food. Apart from the local pigeon, I only have a few sparrows taking the food. The only thing I would change would be the size of the bucket, I would prefer it a bit taller to fit a whole bag of chicken pallets :-) I think Its awesome and already paid itself off in unwasted chicken food.
Been enjoying your videos for years, Rob, and put many of the ideas you've shared into practice at home. Thanks so much for taking the time to film and upload this! Having these instructions and examples in video form really helped, especially showing the completed feeder filling with food. NOW I get it! And now I'm off to the hardware store for some pvc elbows.
Thanks for the videos. We are getting our chickens this weekend. I made a feeder and waterer based off your design. Your videos are helpful. Saw your video about the loss of the chicken. Sorry for your loss, but I am sure the chicken lived a good life with ya.
+runman1271 Hi there & thanks. Glad they helped you out some 👍 Started to pull their pen down today :/ Have been talking to Bianca & we might hurry some of the garden redesign along. Would like to get some back in here by next Summer ;) Hope the chooks go well for you there. Rob.
Your chicken feeder is great! Think about your chicken waterers, too. You can still use the same square bucket for the water, or smaller, if you wish, but put these "horizontal" chicken nipples on it. You can see these chicken nipples by looking on ebay or a web search for horizontal chicken nipples. Use maybe two (or three?) chicken nipples on each side of the bucket using a drill to make the holes and screw them in with teflon tape. I think these horizontal nipples are better than the hanging round ones because the chickens just peck at the central button on the square ones, a little bit of water comes out and they leak less. The others are good, but I like these better.
Thanks Kathy... We have friends that used to use the cup style feeders & they had issues with dust & debris in the cups so that's why we went with the drippers instead.. Don't find they leak much & a 60L drum easily last a few weeks for the few birds we have.. Hope you & yours had a a great one yesterday, Rob..
I have built two in HD buckets with rain hoods made from pipe. I'm starting on a third feeder. I'm going to add a port on the top for refilling the bucket. Getting the lids off can be a real pain in the neck. At any rate, thanks for the idea and the thorough instructions. The feeders are fast and easy to make and they work like a charm.
Great idea to add the fill port on the top.. Should look at something like that for ours as the lid is hard to remove.. Glad the clip has helped you out some.. Have a great one, Rob..
I made one of these. I used only scrap pieces of PVC lying around. The angle ended up being a 30 degree angle but it worked out fine. I did have to take out some bigger holes in the end, I expect because I'm feeding them pellets as opposed to grit/powder. No spilling, no mice that I can see, happy laying chooks! They understood within minutes how it worked. I also made a waterer. 4 nipples on the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket, this took them a bit longer to find out, perhaps 7 days to switch from the open bucket to the nipples. I put peanut butter on the nipples to help direct their attention. Damn that feels weird to write, but yeah... :P
:-D As long as it got their attention.. Glad you're hap with the feeders.. Just knocked up a new one for our girls last week.. The lid on the old one had cracked so went & got a round drum with a screw on top.. Cheers & have a great one..
i said before that you had made the end-all of chicken feeder videos...and then you went and made it better! great vid, rob. thanks and cheers from florida!
Hi there mate mate... The majority of the credit should really go to Hamish I think.. He's a top bloke & am glad he's move closer to us here so we can catch up more often.. Cheers sir & all the best, Rob..
What a great idea on the chicken feeder. I know you gave props to someone who had invented it, but still great stuff. I only have 6 hens, since it's only hubby and I, but the girls fight over food and this would work great. Thanks.
Hope it gives you both a few ideas Kim.. Even though we have a few holes in the one feeder the girls still like to share for some reason... I suppose they don't want to miss out on something the other one is getting :-D Cheers..
Rob Bob Ha, that's exactly what it seems like. I got the PVC and the bucket, there are just a few other things to get down first on the "List". You know how that is. Ta'
Thanks for the updated video. I appreciate that you took the time to not only come up with the improvements, but to share them with us. It's also good of you to link to other people's sites for their mods. Your videos are well done, and very informative. Thanks!
Hi there & Thanks.. Is only fair to give credit where it's due I think, something a lot of folks forget to do on line unfortunately.. Cheers & all the best, Rob..
What a great feeder! My wife and have about 80 chickens in Southern California and with the conventional feeders we often have more waste and problems with mice. On vacation in Mexico but plan to build a 'supersize' version of this feeder with a plastic trash can this weekend! About to build our first aquaponics system also and appreciate your tips on YT for that project as well!,
Hey Kevin.. Hope the the feeder & aquaponics builds go well for you.. would like to know what you think of the feeder once it's been used for a while.. All the best, Rob..
Thanks for the outstanding ideas and the ingenuity replacing the flanged, expensive elbow with the common elbow. That was brilliant. Pairing that idea with my automated (chicken nipple) watering system is going to streamline my coop duties. Great video!
Great video again. 2 inch elbows work perfect. On round buckets a bit of silicone around the edge of the elbow where it meets the bucket holds it in place nicely.
Perfect feeder. Will be making these for mine for sure. Another way you may consider for preventing seed being flicked out is to fold the lower lip of the extender pipe upwards using a heat gun or similar to create the fold.
Hi Rob, that is a very nice design. Also, thank you for mentioning my video! We are thrilled with our feeder, the girls love it too, have a nice day :)
Morning Catalina :-) No problems at all, your idea is fantastic I think & well worth the mention.. Am glad you & the birds are pleased with it.. Thanks for messaging me the other day as you helped motivate me to get to it & do the clip... Cheers & all the best to you & yours, Rob..
Thanks rob, your clips are always helpful - I wish my garden looked like yours! You can also skip cutting the pipe and just create the same opening by having your timber support holding the bottom of the elbow off the floor of the feeder! One less step!
Hey Paul & thanks :-) I like that idea, cheers.. There's so many ways to set them up, it's quite amazing what folks come up with.. Have a great one mate, Rob..
Oh running it backwards! Didn’t know that!!! I did learn that you can put a piece of tape on it but I like the backwards trick better. TWO OTHER COOL TIPS WITH PLASTIC: 1: If you happen to have some thing metal the size of the hole you’re making you could heat it up first and then just push it through and it’ll make a perfect circle without rough edges also. 2: do you seal plastic to itself this is so helpful with so many things because you don’t know how many times I’ve tried to superglue my glasses when they break but I learned on UA-cam that you can use acetone from nail polish remover make sure it’s 100% acetone it works best and then dip both pieces in the acetone for a little bit until it gets a little bit like sticky Chyna… And then press them together and then let it sit for 24 hours and the plastic melts together and it’s bonded! I have to admit I haven’t tried this but it seems like it would work it makes senseBecause I’ve melted plastic with acetone before by mistake. I didn’t know it had to come in a special kind of bottle that wouldn’t mail and I put it in something else and it dissolves completely. Anyway I didn’t actually try it but all the comments in the video I seem to say it works so I thought I would share that. Thank you for making this video
nice design. May I suggest glueing the pipe offcut inside the top of the lip of the outside part of the bend. The intention is as some additional rain shielding.
Rob, I have been watching your channel for a long time and I am very impressed with your production quality. You were good at first but you are becoming an A1 content provider. No gimmicks just good production quality. Good on ya! Cheers Mate!
Morning Mark & thanks Mate... As long as the clips give others some ideas to have a crack at themselves I'm happy :-) Cheers Sir & all the best.. Rob..
Awesome video! It really makes me wish we'd switch the metric system.. it's a lot easier to find half of 94mm than it is to find half of 3.75in... and a lot more accurate too! Keep up the good work.
Hi there.. Will be making a large square 4 port feeder for my sister as soon as we can source the barrels again.. It will make feed top ups so much faster.. Cheers & all the best, Rob..
Thank you for posting this video. I wanted to make a feeder from your previous design but I couldn't locate the special elbow. I can't wait to try this design.
Morning Judith.. Hope one of the methods in the clip or links suits your needs.. All are really fairly easy to build I think.. Would like to know how ou go with it as well.. Cheers & all the best, Rob..
Thanks, I love the idea, my chicks are just under 3 weeks old so I still have time to build this, I must have 20 of those rectangular buckets it's what bulk kitty litter is packed in here in the US, so with 5 cats we accumulate quite a lot of them, once again great idea! :)
Why yes I did, and it works very well, my 13 pullets are 11 weeks old and the feeder is saving me a lot of feed, I do love your videos so much useful info!
I liked your video of the feeders with the buckets, I have been spending too much on the chicken feed being wasted on the ground. Your video seems to help the ground waste pretty well.
Amazing how small the world has gotten.. I have the exact same drill from Ryobi. From Canada to Australia and all places in between these big corporations have it covered. Nice feeder too by the way,,,,,,
I have another solution for your 16 scattering and I was thinking of doing this for my Duck but you could put the container up on a little stepstool kind of thing and then have the mouth opening at the bottom instead of on the side at the bottom... but have it still make the right angle and going on a slight diagonal towards the ground with a At the end and then they will be eating out of that which would be trough from the bottom of the bucket ( through the center of the store or just any kind of stand to get the bucket off off the ground you can even put like blocks of wood or cinderblocks )down to the ground so you would need a longer PVC pipe making a ramp to the ground.....and then for the trough drill either holes for their beaks or I think I would do just a sliver off the side of the trough to make it open for the ducks to go up and down it with their bill for chickens I think I would do circles with my whole drill ... and the bucket doesn’t need to be a pie or anything it just needs to be a little bit high so that you can fit the L underneath and it makes a ramp and automatically will refill as they eat ...does that make sense I hope it does because I’ll probably never happen gonnasee any responses
This is brilliant. I may try this with my rats also. Would solve a lot of issues for me. When I have chickens and ducks again I'm sure to use this trick.
I've used your idea here in the U.S. I used round 5gal. bucket, and found that using a hot glue gun inside and out works great. I simply hang it from the co-op roof. thanks again!
We had issues with native doves feeding on the fallen grain from our old feeder. I found that they didn't have much if any to feed on after swapping to this one so they eventually stopped turning up.
Hi there.. We've found with ours that it isn't really needed.. We give our large feeder a small shake when collecting the eggs just to see how full it is & the feed always works it's way down.. Would like to see how you go if you play around with the idea though.. Cheers & have a great one, Rob..
Pretty well actually after we made our first one a friend seen it and bought it. Lol we used a 1 gallon ice cream bucket and it was cool but a little small for all of our birds. I'm going to use a 15 gallon storage tote this time around. I just need to buy 4 more elbows and we will be good to go. When it's done I'll post a video and tag you in it so you can see what I got.
Is crazy the difference in prices I've seen between countries Jaiye. If we want to buy a new 20L bucket with lid they cost about $14 AUD. Have seen others pick them up new for a few $. Hope the feeder build went well if you had a crack at it.
It works great in my layer chicken tractor. Only issue i didnt think of beforehand is during rain water running down the sides of the bucket and getting in but a little silicon solved that.
This feeder looks great and we are definitely going to give it a go. Question though, does anyone know if ducks are able use these feeders or if they need something different? I have ducks and chooks and want to be able to feed both with a little waste as possible. Many thanks
Hi Sheri.. I have a friend that keeps ducks with her chooks & they both use the feeders with no problem.. Hope it works out well for you & the flock if you have a crack at one.. Rob..
Hi Bob, we just got our chickens this weekend. Thanks for the video. I madee the chicken feeder jut like you did and there is very little waist. Thanks again.
Thanks Nathan.. I'm sure if you asked nicely the landlords wouldn't say no ;) Real estate agents on the other hand can be a pain in the rear. Cheers mate & hope go get the birds..
Hello, I have a question. How does the feed flow to the pipe opening in a flat bottom bucket. Won't the feed that is out of reach of the chickens mold or go bad. I think this is a good idea for a feeder but I think l would add a slant of some sort to direct the feed to the pipe otherwise wouldn't you have to tilt the bucket every now and then to get the feed within reach. Or I guess you could install more pipes on the container. Just wanted your thoughts. Great video. Thanks
We never had that issue. We also gave the feeder a regular shake to see how full it was which probably stopped food sitting in one spot too long. Am glad you enjoyed the clip. Cheers & have a great one.
Great video and explanation. Thanks :) I am about to make one and had a thought, how about the feed at the furthest from the pipe? Do you push it forward when refilling?
I showed my husband your video. He cannot find those fittings in USA. He made one, but the squirrels were gorging on the feeds leaving the bucket empty.
Hi Sashi.. The straight elbows should be easy enough to find in the plumbing section of the big box stores.. There are loads of folks that have made them with the straight ones in this clip.. I know the flanged fittings can be hard to find though.. Cheers.
Hi Rob hope your doing well mate, went to Reverse Garbage today to pick up 3 square buckets to knock up a couple of these feeders. All going to plan I should be picking up six chickens Friday so it's a mad dash to get ready for them. Great design and no waste. Next I need to source some chicken nipples to make a waterer any idea if I can pick these up in Brisbane or are they a solely ebay item. Thanks Andrew.
Hope the build goes well for you.. Am ½ way through making a new one here as well.. The lid on the old one is cracked & letting bugs in.. Have a great one :-)
Rob Bob, my feeder is not under a covering. How will this do in the rain? I am wondering if we get windy rain...if water will get inside and ruin the grain on bottom.
I found having the plate in the base of the pipe & a bit of a cover over the top helped stop water getting in there Jeremy. Not sure it would stop rain from a storm with a lot of wind though. You may want to try & build a larger cover to attach to the top of the feed pipe. Hope that helps some mate.
Hi there.. We still get the native doves & pigeons coming into the coup but don't have any issues with sparrows here really.. I find the doves/pigeons pick through any of the scraps that the chooks spill which isn't much any more so really isn't an issue.. Might be different with smaller birds that can get into the feeder port itself.. Would like to know how it goes if you decide to built one.. Cheers & have a great one.. Rob..
***** We used round ones with no problems Anthony... If you have a look at some of the links the majority of buckets/bins folks use are round.. Cheers mate..
I was wondering, is there a way to stack the two (water and food) so it doesn't take twice the space? My first thoughts were to put the feeder at the bottom, with the water storage on top and pbc pipes running from the water storage down to the feed storage, coming to rest in-between the food holes ending in water nipples. So the end result would be a food hole and a water nipple all the way around. The issue I see is maybe the water being to much weight or dampening the feed (possible leaks). Any ideas to make this happen?
Chris Wright Hey Chris. Could be done but you'd still need access to the feed drum to fill it. I have our water reservoir set outside the pen now with a 20mm/¾" hose running to the dripper stations, ua-cam.com/video/Nbvq7EEwUzo/v-deo.html You could set something like that up & run the hose/pipe to the feed barrel/bucket. Hope that helps some.
Hey there, I'm for sure gonna make one of these. I have just one question: how mice/rat proof is this? I'm planning to hang this from the top of my chicken coop. It seems like a great option and it definitely should prevent the spillage that I have trouble with now. I did about an hour's worth of research before this and as soon as I saw the first shot of your feeder I knew I had found the winner :) Its simple yet indestructible ;)
RobBobs Backyard Farming Yeah, I've been scrounging parts for the past few days. Im gonna use a round bucket and the biggest diameter hole drill I could find. Its gonna be a smaller version because I have only 3 chickens and use a movable circular chook dome that I rotate over 6 circular veggie beds. The chooks take care of the weeds, poop all over the place and turn out some great eggs! :D I also ordered a couple of those drinking nipples that they can pack (sp?) at and drink without mucking up their water.
I love this design for food, do you think that you can make a water similar to this also with maybe a PVC pipe chimney to fill it? I am making a portable chicken tractor and the nipple feeder isn't good pick for this project
+DJ Krug Hi There. I'm not sure that this design would suit a waterer. I have seen some water feeders that rely on upturned vessels sitting in a tray though that might suit. Have you finished the tractor yet? Rob.
Yes I did! Maybe I should make a video. It's working very well. I am using your grain bucket design, but the sprinkler still hits it occasionally so I need to make a water guard for the last two corners. The whole thing cost me under $100 and is 10ft. by 4 ft and holds 4 hens. I move it several times a day and put any treats or dirt bath in front of it before I move it up. I need to get bigger wheels next spring, but it's been working great and the hens are very happy. We have the best looking yard in the neighborhood 😉.
Hi Rob. Saw your feeder design and built 2 of them with 2 elbows in each one. After putting them into service for a week or so, I have a question for you. Do you have roosters? My hens figured things out fairly quickly and are eating ok, and I do appreciate no food spillage! But my 2 big roos seem to be starving. They try to put their heads in but just seem to get frustrated. I am wondering with their big chests whether their necks are long enough to reach the food or if they are just terrorized by not being able to see while feeding. Today I was filling the pails and the two of them were frantically trying to reach the food I was pouring in as if they are virtually starving. Any ideas? Thks Frank
Hi Frank.. No roosters here due to zoning laws.. Are the roosters much taller than the hens ? Am wondering if that could be part of the problem too as it may be difficult for them to get down that low.. Would like to know how you get on with it mate..

Works really & don't see the rodents around down there like we used to either which is great..
Cheers mate & have a great one..
Perfect feeder. Will be making these for mine for sure. Another way you may consider for preventing seed being flicked out is to fold the lower lip of the extender pipe upwards using a heat gun or similar to create the fold.
I ended up using a jar lid to make a lip. That helped stop them scratching the grain out looking for their favourite seeds. 👍
Hi Rob, that is a very nice design. Also, thank you for mentioning my video! We are thrilled with our feeder, the girls love it too, have a nice day :)
Morning Catalina :-)
No problems at all, your idea is fantastic I think & well worth the mention.. Am glad you & the birds are pleased with it..
Thanks for messaging me the other day as you helped motivate me to get to it & do the clip...
Cheers & all the best to you & yours,
Rob..
Thanks rob, your clips are always helpful - I wish my garden looked like yours!
You can also skip cutting the pipe and just create the same opening by having your timber support holding the bottom of the elbow off the floor of the feeder! One less step!
Hey Paul & thanks :-)
I like that idea, cheers.. There's so many ways to set them up, it's quite amazing what folks come up with..
Have a great one mate,
Rob..
Oh running it backwards! Didn’t know that!!! I did learn that you can put a piece of tape on it but I like the backwards trick better.
TWO OTHER COOL TIPS WITH PLASTIC:
1: If you happen to have some thing metal the size of the hole you’re making you could heat it up first and then just push it through and it’ll make a perfect circle without rough edges also.
That’s so difficult to read I was speaking into my phone and it’s too hard to correct
I got the gist of it. 😉👍
Cheers.
nice design.
May I suggest glueing the pipe offcut inside the top of the lip of the outside part of the bend.
The intention is as some additional rain shielding.
It wasn't needed on ours due to where the feeder was kept but there's no reason one couldn't be added. 👍
Awesome chicken feeder there Rob! Nice and simple and easy! Well done sir! I give this video a green elbow and a green thumbs up!
Morning Mr Dale & thanks mate :)
Very easy little units to make & they save a ton of mess..
Cheers sir & all the best to you both :-)
Rob, I have been watching your channel for a long time and I am very impressed with your production quality. You were good at first but you are becoming an A1 content provider. No gimmicks just good production quality. Good on ya! Cheers Mate!
Morning Mark & thanks Mate... As long as the clips give others some ideas to have a crack at themselves I'm happy :-)
Cheers Sir & all the best..
Rob..
Great idea Rob Bob ! Thanks for sharing...I will have to show this to my husband.
No problem Misilla.. Don't think we will use any other sort of feeder here now.. Just too simple & cheap to make..
Cheers & all the best,
Rob..
Rob Bob
Yes cheap or free! :)
Awesome video! It really makes me wish we'd switch the metric system.. it's a lot easier to find half of 94mm than it is to find half of 3.75in... and a lot more accurate too! Keep up the good work.
thankyou for the great chicken feeders. you can take a slightly bigger bucket and add 2 to 4 feeder in 1 bucket
Hi there..
Will be making a large square 4 port feeder for my sister as soon as we can source the barrels again.. It will make feed top ups so much faster..
Cheers & all the best,
Rob..
Cheers & all the best,
Rob..
Thanks, I love the idea, my chicks are just under 3 weeks old so I still have time to build this, I must have 20 of those rectangular buckets it's what bulk kitty litter is packed in here in the US, so with 5 cats we accumulate quite a lot of them, once again great idea! :)
+Robert “for the love of chickens” Kelsey
Hi Robert.
Did you make up one of the feeders?
Hope the new flock is doing well.?
Rob.
Why yes I did, and it works very well, my 13 pullets are 11 weeks old and the feeder is saving me a lot of feed, I do love your videos so much useful info!
+Robert “for the love of chickens” Kelsey
That's great to hear Robert.
Am glad the clips have given you a few ideas.
Have a great one.
Great video.I may be old but I am not above learning new things. Thank you.
John J. Bluvas No problem John. Hope the build goes well if you have a crack at it. 👍
I do plan to make me one . Go for lumber tomorrow. Thanks again.
I liked your video of the feeders with the buckets, I have been spending too much on the chicken feed being wasted on the ground. Your video seems to help the ground waste pretty well.
I've found it cuts the wastage to almost nothing Luke & Amy 👍 Have fun with the build if you decide to have a crack at one.
Rob.
Hi Bob great feed idea, I'm going to get the materials tomorrow and make the same feeder. I will let you know how I get on. all the best.
+JT777 Nice one :-)
Have fun with the build.
Rob.
Many Thanks , your clips are always helpful.
Glad to hear that PHH. 👍👍
Cheers & have a top one.
Thank you ! I made 2 trashcan feeders using this way and its really helped with feed cost and keeping the rodents out. Plus I did it myself!
Nice one Jennifer 👍 They are a very easy unit to knock together.
Cheers & all the best.
Rob.
Excellent little chicken feeder, Rob!
Cheers Patrick.. Should really get stuck into my sisters large feeder now..
Have a great one mate,
Rob..
And not even a strip of sticky back plastic ?!! You are a pro ! I struggle to knock a nail in !!!
:D I hid the zip ties & tie wire under the stickers Ian ;)
Cheers mate & have a great one,
Rob..
Amazing how small the world has gotten.. I have the exact same drill from Ryobi. From Canada to Australia and all places in between these big corporations have it covered. Nice feeder too by the way,,,,,,
Morning & thanks..
Am sure I've seen te same drill turn up on allotment clips from the UK as well ;)
Cheers & all the best,
Rob..
Sort of makes sense. Would like to see a clip once you knock it together NA.
Thank you very much. I love that you give credit to others. Love your videos.
Thanks Miss Boo. I think it's only right to pass on the l;ove.
Cheers & have a top one.
Good ideas, and thanks for giving the inches too!
No problem Christopher..
Have a good one mate..
Wish I had this a few months ago when I was building a system for my chickens
Does save a lot of feed from being spilt & you can't beat the price really ;-)
Cheers & have a great one,
Rob..
I am all about saving a buck thanks
Hi Rob Bob - used your video plan to build the same feeder - works brilliantly - many thanks
That's great to hear Marcel. 👍
Cheers & have a top one.
made a similar one of these today, works amazingly well so far!
Nice one mate & hope it works out well.
Cheers ..
This is brilliant. I may try this with my rats also. Would solve a lot of issues for me. When I have chickens and ducks again I'm sure to use this trick.
Hope it gives you a few ideas.. Have found it's help here a lot..
Cheers & have a great one..
Love your work Rob, enjoy watching your videos. Has been good learning from you & your tips for a ex-city country newbie. A big thank-you. Bert
Very cool idea. Thanks for sharing.
Morning Jim & No problem... Hamish came up with a great idea with this feeder I think..
Cheers & al the best Mate,
Rob..
Excellent VIDEO Sir !!!
Glad you liked it Sarwat.
Have a top one. 😁🐔🐔
I've used your idea here in the U.S. I used round 5gal. bucket, and found that using a hot glue gun inside and out works great. I simply hang it from the co-op roof. thanks again!
Nice one Todd 👍
Hanging it would help a bit more at keeping the rodents out too.
Cheers.
Great video. Thank you. How do you keep pigeons, doves and other smaller varmint birds from eating the feed?
We had issues with native doves feeding on the fallen grain from our old feeder. I found that they didn't have much if any to feed on after swapping to this one so they eventually stopped turning up.
That is such a good idea. Thanks Rob
Morning Pam & hope it helps you out some..
Have a great one,
Rob..
I'm excited to give this a try!
+Gianni Riffle
Have fun with the build 👍
Cheers mate.
great video! very informative, I'm definitely building this tomorrow.
+secks4rmlwd11
Thanks.
Hope the build went well for you.
Cheers,
Rob.
I'd like to see a way to cut some pieces of bucket, to place inside to slope the bottom to direct the feed into the pipe section.
Hi there.. We've found with ours that it isn't really needed.. We give our large feeder a small shake when collecting the eggs just to see how full it is & the feed always works it's way down.. Would like to see how you go if you play around with the idea though..
Cheers & have a great one,
Rob..
Thank you for the idea. I think I'm going to make one for my bantams.
Dusty Brown No problem Dusty. How did the build go mate ?
Pretty well actually after we made our first one a friend seen it and bought it. Lol we used a 1 gallon ice cream bucket and it was cool but a little small for all of our birds. I'm going to use a 15 gallon storage tote this time around. I just need to buy 4 more elbows and we will be good to go. When it's done I'll post a video and tag you in it so you can see what I got.
+Dusty Brown
Sorry I missed your response.
Have you posted the clip mate ?
Cheers.
Great video and very helpful Rob!!!!
+dean herbert
Thanks Dean. Hope it gave yo a few ideas.
Have a great one.
regarding the "Sharing" problem. Perhaps two bends on either side of the bucket ?
The later one had 2 holes but they still wanted to feed from one at the same time.
Cheers & have a top one Edward.
I am going to build these, thank you for posting this
Hope the build goes well for you Abby,,
Cheers & have a great one..
Thx Rob groeten uit Holland
Cheers Frank & G'Day..
Have a great one..
So simple and clever
+Duncan Bell
Thanks Duncan. Hamish came up with a great design I think 👍
Cheers mate.
really good video. thanks for the design.. nearly shed a tear when u said 90c elbow.. those cost over $2.50 in my country :'(
Is crazy the difference in prices I've seen between countries Jaiye.
Rob..
Nice. Great to see alternative designs.
Morning Andy..
Is great to see everyone different takes on it..
Cheers mate & hope the weeks travelling well for you..
Hi Bob, we just got our chickens this weekend. Thanks for the video. I madee the chicken feeder jut like you did and there is very little waist.
Thanks again.
Nice one Runman. Hope they settle in well for you mate 👍😊
Have a great one,
Rob
Thanks for a great info packed vid again Rob :) I might be getting ckickens again soon so your vids will come in very handy!
I shared this beauty. Thanks Rob.
Morning Dianne & thanks :-)
Is a very easy build & saves loads of mess..
All the best,
Rob..
Great video Rob. Enjoyed it thoroughly
Saeid
Thanks Saeid.. Hope it gave you a few useful ideas..
Have a great one..
Hey Andrew..
Send me a PM through FaceBook or G+ & I'll sort you out with a few ;)
Cheers mate..
Very nice ideas!! Thanks for sharing
No problem Clari.
Have a great one.
Thanks for sharing this idea
+Fernando Cortes
No Problem Fernando.
Have a great one mate.
Thanks
Cheers. 🙂
Fom Chihuahua Mexico great video Mate ;) thanks for sharing this great work
+Robinson Fernandez
No problem & hope it gave you a few ideas to play with.
Have a great one.
Great work mate I'm making on today ta
Hope the build goes well for you..
Am ½ way through making a new one here as well.. The lid on the old one is cracked & letting bugs in..
Have a great one :-)
awesome, thanks for the idea. on my way to bunnings for the materials,...
Hope the build went well mate.
Cheers.
Thanks for the vid! Does it stop sparrows and small birds getting in?
Rob..
Very nice!
i cant find square buckets tho - only round.. should still work..
*****
Round buckets work fine. Use silicone or other like product to secure pvc to bucket. 2 inch fittings are cheaper and work great
*****
We used round ones with no problems Anthony... If you have a look at some of the links the majority of buckets/bins folks use are round..
Cheers mate..
Great job, I love it.
Thanks Carmen.
Have a top one.
I have our water reservoir set outside the pen now with a 20mm/¾" hose running to the dripper stations,
ua-cam.com/video/Nbvq7EEwUzo/v-deo.html
You could set something like that up & run the hose/pipe to the feed barrel/bucket.
Oops, I saw that the question came up before and was answered. Never mind!
AcidProblemChild No problem..
Are yo going to have a crack at one still?
Cheers..
I also ordered a couple of those drinking nipples that they can pack (sp?) at and drink without mucking up their water.
Hey Acid check my chicken feeder on my chanel and tell me what you think! Tnx for comment!
thanks!! love it. backyardchickens.com is great. and I found that posting thread on this feeder! thanks for making the videos. awesome!
Nice one Rachel.. Am sure the chooks will love the feeder ;-)
Cheers & have a great one..
Mate, you just saved me a load of issues!?....lol
Would like to know how you get on with it mate..
thats and excellent feeder
Ronaldo Natad Thanks Ronaldo.
Cheers mate.
Great ideas, thanks.
Thanks Corey.
Have a great one mate.
Nice! thanks
