Thank you for posting this video. My dad had a pair of these and I have never seen another since. My grandfather immigrated from England and was a carpenter, he likely made them for my dad or gave my dad instructions.
I made 7 pairs of these horses for your local Habitat for Humanity affiliate 8 years ago. They have weathered rain, snow, and volunteer abuse and remain in serviceable condition. I did not place a 2x8(10) under the saddle, but I did place 2 1x2's or 1x3's on the sides approximately 4 inches from the ground.
