Just picked up a 2021 TRD off-road for 33K. Which to me is the perfect price point for this vehicle. I have owned many wranglers and 4runners and since I spend more time on the highway wanted something more versatile with better mpg. I have to say this is so enjoyable to drive and with a tune to juice up that 4 cylinder I think this will be a really fun rig. It gets a lot of flack from the online off-road community but so far I’m very impressed with this baby. And Sarah, a pleasure as always to hear your voice.
Absolutely love the off road reviews you do Sarah, very few car review channels do something similar; often only at a manufacturers launch event, or on a specially designed course. Glad to see you do it proper. 👍
Dash said 98f in the shade of the warehouse, and Sarah's out in the heat to bring us content. Thank you so much we all appreciate everything that you do!
I own a 2024 RAV4 TRD Off Road. The stock 01A Falken Tires it comes with are totally junk and are not Severe Snow Rated. The tread is only about 1/4". The first thing I did was replace the stock tires with standard Falken Snow Rated Wildpeak Tires 100H. It also comes with an Engine Oil Cooler, Transmission Fluid Cooler, Heavy Duty 150 Amp Alternator, Metal Skid Plates and has 1" less ground clearance than a 4Runner. Towing is 2x to 3400 pounds.
Sarah gets to ride in the helicopter. Sarah: “I give this helicopter 3.75 beans, 1 Cookie as it’s really expensive and 4 Penguins cause it was really fun!”
Sarah, when you do these acceleration tests, it would be very helpful if you added a stop watch + the speedo for 0-60 AND do “passing speed tests“ (40 to 60 and 50 to 70).
Sarah your jokes are just fine and funny. Remember the joke is in the delivery and your delivery cracks me up every time! You have such a lovable persona with you audience you just be you and keep it genuine! I love watching your videos keep them coming! There is nobody quite like you doing videos.
Fun review! Like that you actually drive and push the vehicles. Just picked up a 2023 Rav4 Hybrid Limited. It has all the same features except the tires and red shocks. It was about the same MSRP as this TRD package. Our daughter will be using it primarily on road. We could always upgrade to more agressive tires like we did for our Escape Hybrid. Wish we could have found a prime, but 219 HP and the instant electric torque work pretty well.
Your reviews are always enjoyable Sarah, I genuinely enjoy everything about them, keep it up! I feel like they made this TRD Rav4 sound too "off-roady" for what it is, but if you compare it to say a Subaru Forester, I think it's excellent.
idea for your cookie score... like how you put a cookie over your head when you found out the seats recline, you should put cookies throughout the video and the total number of cookies is the cookie score.
Sarah’s right... needs power upgrade along with the rally shocks, wheels & tires. At least intake and exhaust. It handles great, needs more thrust. And a more stout front bumper with tow hooks & metal skid plates.
I think you nailed it and I agree it’s a Car with enough ground clearance that you can take into the dirt, sand, snow, & gravel (Rally car) if you want something hardcore get a 4Runner or Tacoma 👍🏽
Another great video with fire as well as corny jokes. I loved how you demonstrated volume/storage capacity of trunk/hatch area. I literally lol because I sneezed when “the bird hit the pole” and you were confused. Thank you for never having used Alexa! Love quality the content.
Hellerr!!! I generally don't care about the offroad stuff, but this is a pretty rad little vehicle! Looks great and the specs are killer. I didn't even know the TRD option existed on the RAV. I think this review is going to get quite a bit of interest. Great job.
When you do cargo space, it's way more helpful to give actual measurements: Height of back opening ,width of back opening, length with seats up, and length with seats down.
Going through your back-catalogue of car reviews, having just seen the Rav4 Prime prior to this, I got to say this one looks so much better. It has a more purposefull design and not just a ton of random styling threwn on top of it, like that Prime (and frankly most other Rav4s) do. I like purposefull design as much as I hate styling for the sake of styling, just to fill out every last otherwise blank space on the car body. If I was shopping for a Rav4, this would be it. And don't worry, Sarah - your jokes are always fire! Thank you for what you do and Stay Awesome!
I ❤ ur vids. Thank u 4 mpgs & ur scores @ the end. I just came from watching another vid where i learned absolutely nothing for 20mins. But u r fun AND Informative
tip: You can make any vehicle off-road the same way you can make every vehicle super fast by just coloring the calipers and springs, I would not recommend coloring both in the same vehicle is too much to handle just fyi.
The white roof reminds me of the FJ Cruiser. But FJ Cruiser it is not. Now, I would love for Toyota to bring back the FJ Cruiser and offer it with a TRD package.
Other car reviewers complain the RAV4's engine is "unrefined" or "coarse". Sarah smiles and says it "sounds pissed!" They all agree it needs more power. I say bring back the V6, and while they're at it, go way back in history and bring back the manual 😁
Reverse was the solution for attacking Sedillo Hill outside Santa Fe, NM in the 1920s. A half mile or so. Skinny tubed tires. Toyota - build this with a manual transmission and more ground clearance and you'd be fire. The FJ 40 for the future.
Reverses usually spin from second gear, backing up a hill (especially in a front wheel drive) is a matter of weight distribution.... most of the weigh is now centered over the drive wheels.
@@johncurry7246 I say keep it, treat as a classic car and restore as it goes. I'd say popularity is close to that of the old 4 runner with the removable shell.
@@FrontyardJ I would love to, but I know eventually it will give out, if nothing else rust will be the downfall. It already has 170,000 miles of midwest winter salt on it :( My summer project was a bit of rust cleaning and underside coating.
@@FrontyardJ Hopefully it won't be for many years to come, it's such a fun truck. As long as they keep making the 4Runner as solid as they are I will most likely go that route for my next purchase.
Had this in TRD Off Road Trim for a year, it was fun driving it at the margins, your more like a rally car comment is spot on as is the need for more ground clearance (I high centered it the first month). It rallys like a MF though, fun to drift in the dirt. Binging your content. Thanks for "not reading the brochure" stuff, loving that.
I was taught to drive up the dirt road hills in reverse if the small front wheel drive car isn't making it in a forward gear. It puts more weight in the driving tires. This AWD on this Rav4 is probably front wheel biased, so yeah it makes sense it would be happier driving uphill in reverse gear.
There is a lift kit for the rav 4, its a 2.5 inch lift at about 300 bucks (not a bad price). The 1 thing i see in the vid review is the horrible aproach and departure angles, I can just see busted front and rear plastics overlanding with this thing...Personally I'd just wait and see what the new Bronco turns out to be...and if it has to be a toyyoyo the tacoma, tundra, and FJ cover all the right bases while this thing just falls flat on its mall crawlers face
Sarah, the Penguins just called and complained LOL, why are you measuring in Pigeon Eggs, when you should measure in Penguins per sqft PPSF ;)..... your jokes are hilarious and make my day! Keep rocking
It takes off faster if you shift the gears yourself to keep the RPMs up to have max HP. It is great for on and off-roading long as you know how to drive it.
I have the 2019 RAV4 Adventure in Lunar Rock. Tbh, get the Adventure instead. It does everything the TRD does minus the heated seats and blacked out wheels or the premium you pay for the TRD badging. 33k USD.
You need to review a Can Am Spider 3 wheeler! You would love it! They have 6 speed DCT trans CVT’s in the 900 and 600 cc models. But I would recommend the 1330cc one with the DCT!!! Crazy fun!!!
Yay - it's not yet midnight here in the UK - thanks for posting early Sarah! Are you sure that Penguin was asleep and not dead after being zapped by a possibly lethal dose of USB power? The RAV 4 has been around for quite a long time, was never very exciting but this looks interesting. Great, fun, review as always Sarah. 🙂🙃🙂🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧
Sarah simply the best car reviews don’t know how you do it. didn’t think for a second the pigeon egg wasn’t accurate, you’re right that is a sweet color and the helicopters I live about 8 miles from Selfridge if you ever were stationed in Michigan you were probably there anyways they love coming in low over my house my neighbor hates it I love it 🐧🐧🐧👍

Yes.. I actually googled the volume of a Pigeon Egg 😂
You have got a great sense of humor and you never disappoint with creativity either If you don't mind can I ask you few questions?
Did you use calculus to determine the volume in between the pigeon egg?
of course you did

yes mam, I bought a 2021 RAV4 Hybrid, put a 2" lift and Falkens on it; love it. People constantly ask me about it and like it too.
I think its perfect for those than want a safe, reliable, comfortable vehicle around town, but go on a lot of weekend camping/skiing trips...
probably great just as a city car too from what i see

Lunar rock. We used to call it primer! Hahahaa!
Battleship Grey here.

yah , i did take rav4 prime instead if this , put it on 17 in rims 255/65/17 , 302 horses , too much fun that car on the gravel , and alot of power

Upgraded suspension & cat back exhaust would finish it off nicely. 👍
@ the helicopters at the end, I had a really cool old open-cockpit biplane buzz over the lake and my house, like, insanely low today
I'd always assumed that reverse gears had the most torque in a vehicle.
They’re very low.

someday may be or never..

Not too surprising it seemed to do better backing up the hill, it's essentially a FWD with on-demand AWD, so going backwards puts the weight on the wheels that do most of the work.
In Oz we get a rav4 Edge (panoramic sunroof) AWD starts at $50k. But we get the TRD Camry and Avalon.

You were flexing?
Yup, noted thin sheet metal = lighter weight for better MPG & less protection should you bend her fender.
