Great video, brings back so many memories, I remember watching this on tv when I was about 12, my dad and his pals had bought a big carry out to watch the game, they had got steaming drunk and crashed out when united were winning, then woke up when it was 2-1 to Celtic, they couldn’t believe it, the table with all their drinks got booted up in the air, beer and el dorado wine went everywhere, my mum was raging when she got home lol Btw we are Celtic fans Cheers for the memories 💚
As a Celtic fan I cannot wait to trawl through these videos especially around 1987. After 88 sc final I begged gods that if Celtic reach a final then pls pls don’t let it be Utd…….. I feel sorry for the kids of today. As a child I saw 2 Scottish ‘provincial’ clubs reach European finals. Utd’s route to Gothenburg is ingrained in my memory for ever!
Hey Patrick, yes they were heady days for Utd fans... my dad surprised me by getting us tickets for this final - we drove through to Glasgow from Dundee for the game. I was 12 at the time and beyond excited to be there... We were sitting in the main stand near the Celtic end, I can still remember watching Provens free kick sail passed McAlpine and then McGarveys header moments later - it was bedlam, and literally a dagger to my heart :( ... lol ... as you say, how good was Scottish football back then?
Well done the Arab Archive, Me and my mates walked to Hampden that day it was a great sunny day, Great memories Davie Provan free kick the guy climbing the flood lights and of course the rubber man with the winner, Ty Arab Archive 🍀
Celtic end was the busiest I’ve ever seen it that day . Pay at the gate for a Cup Final , unheard of nowadays. Can remember a gate got broke down / opened and thousands managed to get it without paying .
You can see a lot of fans in the Celtic end are on the roof of the toilet blocks. And I remember watching lots of Celtic fans being let out of the perimeter fences. Even from the United end, the far terrace looked absolutely rammed. Oh and it was only £1 for the boys gate that day 😂
The old gates at the bottom of the stairs were still there but not in use. People ran through thinking they were getting in for nothing only to run up to the top of the stairs where the new gates were. You're right there was a crush with people having to climb onto the roof of the gates to avoid the danger. In those days I was involved in a number of crush situations. How the authorities didn't see a Hillsborough coming is beyond me.
North enclosure as celtic end way too crowded, didn't get in till 320 official attendance 60,440,hampden capacity 74,000 have a look and tell me where you could put xnother 14,000 fans ?
The SFA should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for putting the army on show,whos head attire alone costs 3000£ per soldier,not including the cull to a beautiful animal. Not forgetting the slaughter they done in Ireland...

It’s also bonkers to think that Dundee United were 90 minutes away from somehow ending up in what is now the Champions League final in 1984!
