  • Let's board a night train with sleeper cars from Tokyo to the Sea of Japan! This video guide will walk you through the JR Sunrise Izumo
Express from Tokyo Station to Izumo.
Passengers on Japan's night trains have declined so there are few night trains left in Japan. This is the only daily one from Tokyo.
    Notes:
★ Shower tickets - buy them as soon as you board. Limited number available. There's a vending machine. 320 yen for 6 minutes.
    *Bring your own towel.
★ No food on board. Buy your own breakfast, snacks, beer
BEFORE you board. There is a softdrink vending machine but the
    prices are high.
★ JR Rail Pass is okay for this sleeper train but only for the Nobinobi Zaseki (のびのび座席) flat area. There are upgrade charges for compartments / cabins. Make a reservation at a JR ticket
office. It's best to do this as early as possible esp on the weekends and holiday.
Sunrise Izumo Schedule / サンライズ出雲 時刻表 :

    ▶︎ 22:23 Yokohama横浜
    ▶︎ 23:53 Fuji 富士

    (Next day)
    ▶︎ 05:25 Himeji 姫路

Half continues to the Sea of Japan towards Izumo.
    ▶︎ 09:03 Yonago 米子
    ▶︎ 09:30 Matsue 松江
    ▶︎ 09:58 Izumoshi 出雲市
What are the attractions of Izumo, Matsue, Yonago (San'in area)?

Japan Rail Pass and Night Trains: If you're coming to Japan with a JR Japan Rail Pass, it's good for more than just the #shinkansen (bullet train). If you want to get off the beaten path and save on a night at a hotel, perhaps the SUNRISE IZUMO EXPRESS from Tokyo Station to the Sea of Japan is your ticket. All you need is a reservation and it's free! In this episode, John reports from this unique sleeper car on a 12 hour 950km ride to Yonago, Matsue and Izumo. #japanrailpass #japan #train #pass #tokyo #JR #サンライズ出雲 #電車 #nighttain #couchette

Hungry Guy Quirky_On_Shy I think so, but on the other hand, I don't think Japanese passengers buy more than one. It's "mottainai" and taking more than one person needs. I
I think if you have a lot of hair, shampoo it when you arrive the next day. For guys, there's no excuse to use more than 6 minutes! It's not THAT amazing. haha!

The Sunrise Izumo will have to offer food service for me at a minimum to take that train. Via Rail, Amtrak, RZhD, Trenitalia, SNCF, Caledonian Sleeper and many other European trains offer food service onboard long-distance intercity trains. Why JR didn't pre-covid do the same with respect to the Sunrise Seto or Izumo beat me although maybe JR will realize that on offering on-board meal service it lags behind RZhD and most of the Western counterparts of Japan's and Russia's equivalents to Amtrak.

Working hard to get my fill
      Everybody wants a thrill
Paying anything to roll the dice
      Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
      Oh the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

I have only been to Osaka and Kyoto. The people thete are so helpful even though we don't speak Japanese. Taking the subway and trains were easy as the signs are well placed and organised Watching your videos makes me want to go to Japan and not come home.

Sleeper trains are kind of OK. You sleep for a few hours and the rest you doze away. The back is much more relaxed than on the long range travel bus.

Great Job! I am a Japanese Studies student from Germany and my major is Japanese history. Izumo was always on my list to visit when I am in Japan. Thank you for the video and the information. I really wanna take the Sunrise train to Izumo and maybe I am getting the opportunity because I'm coming to Japan in September for an exchange year at Waseda University. Did not know there was a train like that from Tokyo. Thank you, keep on the good work!

Shravan Singh apparently its free if you got a train pass....I don't know how it costs thiigh, and obviously it will be pricy compared to India....cost of living and all...and saves the hotel cost as well..

    • @BDSSSASASDSAD
      @BDSSSASASDSAD 6 років тому

Shravan Singh Japan people also earn more than India so cost is not much of a difference

    • @BDSSSASASDSAD
      @BDSSSASASDSAD 6 років тому

Shravan Singh yes agreed Japan has all sorts of transportation services but in India we prefer traveling from Rajdhani or Shatabdi for short distances if we have to travel in major cities definitely we pick flights but I usually pick Rajdhani for my travel being an upper middle class. Japan is also smaller than India.
