- Let's board a night train with sleeper cars from Tokyo to the Sea of Japan! This video guide will walk you through the JR Sunrise Izumo
Express from Tokyo Station to Izumo.
Passengers on Japan's night trains have declined so there are few night trains left in Japan. This is the only daily one from Tokyo.

*Bring your own towel.
★ No food on board. Buy your own breakfast, snacks, beer
BEFORE you board. There is a softdrink vending machine but the
prices are high.
★ JR Rail Pass is okay for this sleeper train but only for the Nobinobi Zaseki (のびのび座席) flat area. There are upgrade charges for compartments / cabins. Make a reservation at a JR ticket
office. It's best to do this as early as possible esp on the weekends and holiday.

New Japanese train video up! Japanese Scenic Train Experience in Kyoto ▶︎ ua-cam.com/video/fjpj0PquGlk/v-deo.html
Japan's local commuter trains are turning into luxury tourist lines for countryside trips! Impressed by this one-man train car line in #kyoto -john
I love these train videos , keep up the good work!
Thank you for teaching me and others about Japan! I love you and your videos.
From time to time i come back for this video, ill watch the others too, thank
you.
✌🤪✌
ONLY in JAPAN Thanks for the update.. I just saw this video and was about to ask for latest details... doomo arigatou gozaimasu!
Nothing beats Japanese Discipline, Courtesy, and Style.
Or cleanliness...
In north america that stainless steal toilet would be pitted and obscenities carved into it.
💖 for japan..from india
The most civilized country to visit by far
Or hypocrisy and racism
Shut your mouth
Japan Rail Pass and Night Trains: If you're coming to Japan with a JR Japan Rail Pass, it's good for more than just the #shinkansen (bullet train). If you want to get off the beaten path and save on a night at a hotel, perhaps the SUNRISE IZUMO EXPRESS from Tokyo Station to the Sea of Japan is your ticket. All you need is a reservation and it's free! In this episode, John reports from this unique sleeper car on a 12 hour 950km ride to Yonago, Matsue and Izumo. #japanrailpass #japan #train #pass #tokyo #JR #サンライズ出雲 #電車 #nighttain #couchette
Going to Japan has always been on my bucket list, and going on a bullet train is one of the things I would like to go on. And watching your videos has always been helpful for me to prepare for anything like these situations! Keep up the great work!🎍😊🎍
WAORYU ONLYinJAPAN Can you buy more than one shower ticket and use them back-to-back to take a long shower?
Hungry Guy I'm wondering the same thing!
Hungry Guy Quirky_On_Shy I think so, but on the other hand, I don't think Japanese passengers buy more than one. It's "mottainai" and taking more than one person needs. I
I think if you have a lot of hair, shampoo it when you arrive the next day. For guys, there's no excuse to use more than 6 minutes! It's not THAT amazing. haha!
There were some students who SHARED a shower with a friend. 3 min and 3 min ... or together? I didn't ask. -John
WAORYU ONLYinJAPAN leaving your stuff at your seat when going in to take shower...doesn't it get stolen? lol.
Everything about Japan is so clean and so modern
Go to the beach in summer in Japan and you will see not everything is that clean....
Yes it is and very modern
Except they sleep on the floor. Very modern
OMG...it’s cleaner than my room
and more comfortable than mine
I have travel by Chinese train many times: trash, vomit, unidentified hair, children cry, loudly cellphone talking. Nice.
@@raymondlee4407 I feel you the beds are nasty
You should see mine (lol)
I love how they keep everything so clean.
***** Yeah, The janitors need a raise. The bathrooms in america are nothing like it. Its filthy and dirty :(...
Tracey Nguyen Plus the people there is already clean so it's not that hard to maintain
+Tracey Nguyen actually, it's not the janitors only -- people don't leave a mess! They try to make it cleaner than they found it. Remember Japanese fans cleaning the stadium at the World Cup games in Brazil last year? It's just part of the culture. -John
I really like that part and I myself could never emagine leaving a toilet that is dirty... and yeah ... too often you enter one and you first need to clean it ;/
They're also very polite.
Cleanliness in Japan is just impressive. You won't even find the Five Seasons as clean as that sleeper car.
Hello from Canada. My hunch is that Japanese people like this young gentleman. And, I think that he likes Japan too. It shows.
Hey thanks for this video. Because of it, I was able to plan a Sunrise Izumo trip in 2017, asking a friend in Japan to go buy tickets 30 days in advance and another friend and I went on that 14 hour journey. What a great experience it was.
I like this guy voice. It makes things feel happy
Feels like a kid's show narration to me.
Geek About It hahahaha...
Yes, it was fun when I heard this guy voice.
Geek About It Me toooo! :p
Nuh not dat good actually.
The Japanese countryside is simply breathtaking. It looks so wonderful and lush and peaceful.
This guy is born to be an excellent travelling presenter .
JAPAN is beautiful place
and the Japanese people are so respectful, nice and decent.
Yeah ive been there
I know! I’ve been back in 2019 and it was absolutely amazing and beautiful! Everyone was so nice and everything was super clean!
this guy deserves way more views! his vids are informative, and produced to better standards than most stuff you see on tv. kudos!
Tal Mamatov Thanks! The more viewers share these videos, the more word gets around. I'm just happy with the success of the show so far and can't even imagine the show getting more popular ... never imagines that! Better than TV. THANK YOU!! I think Google and UA-cam thank you too :) -John
WAORYU ONLYinJAPAN and i do mean HBO and showtime, not the crap that used to be known as the networks :)
Seriously, can i ask you one question? from the tidbits of japanese you use in your vids, you pronunciation is perfect, at least to me. is there a way for me to improve my japanese pronunciation without physically being in japan?
***** it takes one to know one
***** for a guy accusing somebody of a lack of maturity, you're displaying typically prepubescent behavior of name-calling. and your whole argument can be distilled down to the "you are, too" line or reasoning most associated with play grounds and dodge ball games. so yes, it takes one to know one, i.e. for you to say somebody lacks maturity bespeaks your own lack of mental and cognitive development. case closed
Tal Mamatov Amen Mr. Tal.
The quality of your video's is very high, always amazing content !!! bless you john
As good as Rick Steve’s TV shows. No wasted time discussing his personal preferences and opinions. Simply presents information every traveler may potentially need in an entertaining format. Well done.
*Thank you very much. Great video. Thanks from Vietnam*
This was absolutely terrific. I live here but have never been on a sleeper train before. Would love to do that once someday.
TabiEats Nice to hear from you again! Yes, it is an absolute must! It just felt good to depart Tokyo for a new area ... to wake up to amazing scenery. Such moments are priceless! It's a shame this line doesn't have a dining car but the ones from Ueno to Sapporo do! Learned about the Shiso Cocktail on your page. Didn't know you could make a drink like that from it! Niku Jaga video was nice too. Mom's know best!! Always worrying, aren't they :P Great channel! Keep up the good work, guys! -John
Thanks WAORYU ONLYinJAPAN we appreciate the kind words.
From my experience before me and my parents moved to the USA
In 2012 Yes it's a absolute must
The Sunrise Izumo will have to offer food service for me at a minimum to take that train. Via Rail, Amtrak, RZhD, Trenitalia, SNCF, Caledonian Sleeper and many other European trains offer food service onboard long-distance intercity trains. Why JR didn't pre-covid do the same with respect to the Sunrise Seto or Izumo beat me although maybe JR will realize that on offering on-board meal service it lags behind RZhD and most of the Western counterparts of Japan's and Russia's equivalents to Amtrak.
His voice is so soothing and smooth, I love it
ikr
Oh my... The way he worded the mist coming off of the rice patty fields trapped by the surrounding mountains was actually beautiful...
Those rice fields look just like where the Elric brothers live in Fullmetal Alchemist.
@Papa Kim Ur gay too having a profile pic of kanna
I can say, train is my favourite transportation. It's nice to spend a night there. If only there's train like this in here. Plus, this train also give a great quality even for economy class. Great thing about Japan service.
This was really special. Thank you.
I had the honor of serving at Yokota AB in the early 90s. Taking the train out away from Tokyo and into the mountains for solo camping trips was one of my favorite things.
Japan is the best!👏👍👍
Huge thanks sir! God bless you always!
America needs this sort of mass transit. Clean, fast, and everywhere.
Dude, your 13 min video gave me more information than I would get from researching for a month, the quality of your videos is stunning!
I love your videos!
Being half Japanese, I appreciate how you portray this beautiful country and its people.
It’s awesome!
I’m Japanese, but I’ve never taken sleeper train. Very informative, and I think I’ll give it a try someday. Thank you very much.
In india 90% people takes sleeper train
@@pranjal6924 I dont even want to imagine how sleeper trains in India are..
I'll trade my place in the USA for your place in Japan.
@@Shadow77999 😂😂😂😂 but ac coaches are good
try nobinobi, fun, I been to Japan since 2003 , and I been on this night train for so many times, not as often as before this past few years but still go sleep for one night last year just for memory sake.
hats off to the Japanese people. I have only been to Japan once and believe me they are the best people, so humble so hardworking and helpful. I hope to visit Japan again as my first trip there was very short. Kudos to Japanese people keeping the train the so clean, I hope my fellow countrymen could also inculcate toilet manners and cleanliness.

Japan is a great nation and a unique people. I love them.
@@Bouncybon I HATE THE JAPAN
They are friendly when you can see them. But that's still better than a lot of other countries
Yes, but I hate japan because there are so expensive to travel 😭
This train looks incredible clean and comfortable. Still much to learn from Japan......
Jiang Cui
Agree with you, and the country house of Japan look very nice.
Are you Chinese
I really love your videos keep me updated of the beauty that is Japan ❤
Thank you for giving viewers a window to Japanese culture.
Sunrise express is the last regular sleeper in Japan. Other sleepers are very luxury cruise train only (The Seven stars in Kyusyu, The Twiglight express MIZUKAZE available in 2017 spring, The Train suite SHIKISHIMA available in 2017 spring, The Cassiopeia cruise) .
So anyway, you can use shower room more time. Water can use only 6 minutes, but that push stop button (red color), you can stop water and count timer. It's very important information!
Japan is absolutely beautiful. I wish I could live there.

Great video, I really enjoyed your trip. Thank you for sharing your experience.
I was in Matsue several years ago....beautiful castle town! Matsue-jo was a wonderful small castle that I would enjoy going back to. The bottom room of the castle is like a small museum.
Normally I don't like watching videos like these, not because they're not informational, but because people butcher pronunciations, or do really embarrassing stuff to/around Japanese people.
You were very respectful and gave a lot of information, and beautiful shots. I got goosebumps when I saw the fog on the rice paddies. It really made me wanna do something like this now! I subscribed! :)

GOING ANYWHERE
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night
Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Paying anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

I love this.
Hazy what a Journey ;)
It is exactly how I imagine Japan when you finally get tired of the Metropolis. It is amazing and the standards are so high I would gladly travel in the coach class this blogger chose..............Great presentation and deliver.
One of the better train travel videos I've seen. Thank you, John. It would be great to experience Japan.
I have only been to Osaka and Kyoto. The people thete are so helpful even though we don't speak Japanese. Taking the subway and trains were easy as the signs are well placed and organised Watching your videos makes me want to go to Japan and not come home.
Sleeper trains are kind of OK. You sleep for a few hours and the rest you doze away. The back is much more relaxed than on the long range travel bus.
it's like travelling in cars but you don't drive?

Great Job! I am a Japanese Studies student from Germany and my major is Japanese history. Izumo was always on my list to visit when I am in Japan. Thank you for the video and the information. I really wanna take the Sunrise train to Izumo and maybe I am getting the opportunity because I'm coming to Japan in September for an exchange year at Waseda University. trains in japan are really awesome .. respect from india
anurag prajapati
And Indian trains will be great too
Shravan Singh apparently its free if you got a train pass....I don't know how it costs thiigh, and obviously it will be pricy compared to India....cost of living and all...and saves the hotel cost as well..
Shravan Singh Japan people also earn more than India so cost is not much of a difference
Shravan Singh yes agreed Japan has all sorts of transportation services but in India we prefer traveling from Rajdhani or Shatabdi for short distances if we have to travel in major cities definitely we pick flights but I usually pick Rajdhani for my travel being an upper middle class. Japan is also smaller than India.
India 3rdworld,,,,,,,
