I use to work for the Chattahoochee nature center and for our last field trip for the summer, they took, us here and there was no one at the beach area I practically had the beach to myself
It's beautiful, with history and beach and great trees and because it takes a boat ride to get there, not crowded. Great way to spend a day or a weekend.
Wonderful video! I've never heard of this place, will definitely put it on my to do list. It reminds me of Dry Tortugas, in that you can go camp on a lonely island. I know they're very different but since getting to Tortugas is challenging for me, maybe Cumberland can be a primer for what it's like. Thanks for sharing your journeys!
Thanks -- yes, some parallel with Dry Tortugas in that it's an island, but Tortugas is a much longer and choppier boat ride, camping area is very small on Tortugas with very little shade. Tortugas has coral that Cumberland does not have and the waters at Tortugas is much clearer and much more blue in color. When you combine that with Fort Pulaski not too far up the coast (video to be published tomorrow), you get the fort and the beach :-)
What a great video! So informative and helpful! I saw other videos about this island that didn't inspire me to visit, but after seeing yours I am pumped to visit Cumberland Island National Seashore on our next trip to Georgia. Thanks!
I have loved visiting here...
Us too!
