  • A small quiet place in Thuringia. Andreas' (42) workshop is running well again and Martin (43) is not as much on the road as before. Son Max (19) is out of the house. Finally, the two have more time for themselves and travel in November to the Baltic Sea - as they have always done it before. But Martin is dissatisfied: the weather is bad and he would have preferred to stay at home. Andreas tears off his clothes and throws himself into the cold sea. Full of care, Martin tries to pull him back and swallows the salty water as he stumbles. Back in their holiday home the mood is disturbed by the different expectations. A cautious approach to the traces of a long relationship. "Paths" tells the love of two people. Not how they got together, not a period that they live through, but their common time: all the years between the first kiss and now.

    At 35 I had given up--just gonna live my life, do what I want and be solo. Then Kirk came into my life. 37 years together now and more in love than ever. Give up your expectations and desparations and let love come to you (or not).

    What an absolutely gorgeous film. So refreshing from the doom and gloom of so many LGBT films. Yes, this film had it's fair share of sadness, but it felt very organic. It was refreshing to see the ups and downs of a relationship between two men with their growing son. The fact that it's two men, isn't even made to be a major thing. It's about the relationship between two people who love each other and yet overtime drift further apart.
    I hope to have experienced the kind of relationship Martin and Andreas had in my lifetime. Sometimes I feel like I may never have that. I'm grateful to have a film like this out there.

    It's one of the best and most interesting films I've seen about couples who have been together for many years, in this case by two men. When the time comes to rethink ways and you are at a crossroads whether or not to move on together. Great performances, flawless performances that are told in a natural and realistic way with no artifice, just the lives of two people who really love each other. We need more films like this.

    I always thought I'd have a relationship like this some time in my life. I was so wrong. I'll always wonder what it's like to have this kind of experience. This movie helps me to imagine what it might be like.

      Thanks, Pete. I have far too many problems to have such a relationship but that doesn't mean I don't wonder what it would be like. Many of the men I meet do to. The odds are stacked massively against us. It's just like someone who'll never be rich wonders what it's like to have lots of money. You don't need money to be a content person, but you wonder sometimes. That's what art is all about; showing you perspectives you don't have in your actual life.

      Are you an artist? Anyway mate, your problems will be in my prayers. Whether it's money, love or freedom, I know that we got to earn it. At least may I know your name? xxx

      I'm an historian. I agree that we have to earn what matters in life. I haven't earned the respect of other gay men, nor have all but a few gay men I've known earned my respect. It was never mutual. I understand that the odds are massively stacked against gay men and that I'm running out of time to have a real connection with another man but movies like this help me to accept this. They help me to see that I can contribute to the lives of other gay men even if those other gay men can't contribute to mine for many different reasons. Thanks, Matt

      Judging from what you said, I think you'll admire "A Single Man" with Colin Firth, and maybe try "The Normal Heart" though it's a bit depressing, but has that history tune to it.
      I'm still a seedling, but always been told too mature for my age.
      Also, you are the sort of person who reminds how lucky I am to have Mr brightside here with me. He's worth fighting for. And such relationship does last Matt, it's a 2-way thing anyway. Maybe not for everyone. And that's perfectly fine. Thanks for making my day :) X

    SPOILER ARLET..
    I cried when Max decided to go to hospital and met Martin. This is the best happiest movement in this film because we can see Max really cared and loved Martin, he acepted Martin as a member in family. Good Movie

    well , this is disgusting
    and more horrific that they are putting a child with them as if it's normal
    if you are bisexual or homosexual , fine .. just keep it private
    not marriage and adoption for God's sake

    • @sweetbaybabz7463
      @sweetbaybabz7463 5 років тому +5

      First of all, if you watched the film you'd know that Max was Andreas's biological son. Martin became his second parent. Secondly, Max seems to have grown up quite well and a very healthy young man. He lost his mother, but he had two fathers who loved and cared for him so very much and still did even after they couldn't make their marriage work.
      It is absolutely normal for them to raise a child. A child needs a home, food on the table, clothing, shelter, education and two parents that love them. Max clearly has all of that and more. He was thriving.
      Why should a homosexual or bisexual person keep it private? Straight couples raise children, get married, hold hands in public and do whatever they want. How does homosexuality affect you?

    • @jeffmunsell7442
      @jeffmunsell7442 5 років тому

      you are the horrific !

    • @buiewynn6975
      @buiewynn6975 5 років тому +3

      For God's sake? God made them homosexual. They didn't choose. Did you choose? If so, I'm sure you remember the day, month, and year you decided NOT to be homosexual. They were two men in love who raised the biological son of one of them. He turned out great and loved both his father and his dad.
