That depends heavily on which hazer you have, how big the room is, and how much air the HVAC system moves. Could be on the floor behind the stage, could be up on a truss, could be in the back of the room. It just takes some trial and error.
Right their with Field Films. Each room is different, You should try and get it in a position that suits the venue and scenario well where you are not fighting a draft, sometimes I try and go with a draft and just angle it to cover a better area and not blowing away.
We have tried using an oil based hazer at our church before with several problems. We once had a fire alarm because of it, not to mention one time at a talent show event the church was running the lighting operator lost control of it and it started pumping at 100%. It was kind of funny though because this old guy who was singing really badly started coughing and faning the haze away from him then a bunch of little girls who were dancing disappeared halfway through their performance in the massive cloud 😆. To be fair I haven't managed to persuade the church leadership to re look at using it again but fortunately the whole back wall is made out of projector screen material and we can see the beams if we point the lights down that.
ACTUALLY, There are Co2 and compressor based hazers. Each with their own advantages. Co2 making the highest quality haze while consuming a super little amount of fluid. Sadly it comes with its own cost. Either way, compressor based machines can use oil or water based fluids. While Co2 based systems normally use water based fluids

Gonna add another comment here.... One of the worst things a company can do is call their fazers "hazers". It just isn't right.
