This is a great intro and shows a lot. I also struggled with writing the F and p, sometimes it work and sometimes it doesn't, is there a detail description of how to draw each entry in slow motion. Showing how staffpad works out what the symbol is
But without a trial option, it's still risky paying $90 for an app you are not sure it works as advertised. But if it's really this good then it's a composer's dream.
StaffPad you need to come up with a try before you buy option - Others have done this - why can’t you? You have made the decision to move to the iPad - where you have stiff competition from other (proven) less expensive apps notation apps - and probably 500% more market opportunity. The USP of offering professional samples may not be as strong as you hope. Hearing credible and believable rumours that SWAM products will be on the iPad soon (no not the current offering inside Roli’s Noise App).
Christo Janse van Rensburg I write music for film. I've used the top libraries in the industry for years. They just don't come with guitars. If I want a good guitar library, I'd go out and find a company that did guitar very well. The default library comes with bass guitar because that's used with small orchestras and Jazz bands far more than acoustic. I get why you'd want a guitar. The wider world of users would expect to have one. I'm just saying it's probably not meant to be a rip off at all. Personally, I'd rather have a pipe organ than a guitar anyway. We all have our own choice. ;) As for the handwriting recognition... I've heard most people saying it takes 6 hours or so to get used to knowing how to write well for it. I can't speak to that, but maybe it would work out for you over time. Maybe not. Just thought it was worth saying that some people who hated it at first ended up liking it.
Sean Jackson Slightly Off Topic - Agree with the Pipe Organ. Very interesting work being done in the Audio “Modelling” world. (As there is with all instruments).
I used to be a professional copyist, back in the copyist's handwriting days, so I am not accustomed to the sloppy music manuscript encouraged here. I have been practicing with my iPad, and not having much success with Staffpad recognizing my (neatly written) notes in order to covert them into engraved notation. Does Staffpad plan to infuse Staffpad's conversion methods with AI so that Staffpad can blend its expectations of handwriting with learning my handwriting. I am very anxious to begin using this platform and leave the old click-drag presets method of piecing together a score.
I bought StaffPad some months ago and its handwriting recognition is very poor. It’s amazing how you can write, say, a quarter note and it translates it to a whole rest or even a perfectly drawn half rest to an half note or some other arbitrary symbol. I’m being random when describing this but it seems you spend more time trying to get the software to recognize your handwriting and trying endless variations to do that. Frustrating. I usually end up doing a lot for copying/pasting of notes already on the manuscript and moving them up and down to get the pitches I want. I think the developers need to come up with a different way of recognizing your input. It needs to have the number of possible direct outcomes increased and the number of indirect outcomes decreased. As an example, if you want to write a half rest, the developer needs to have it recognized in as many “direct” ways as possible (variations of a short horizontal line or bar within the staff) instead of assuming indirect possibilities like half notes or a dynamic mark or some other obvious unrelated outcomes. The only good thing with StaffPad now is that their sound libraries are now anywhere from 33 to 75 percent off their regular prices, which is super! I ended up buying a few of them and now, I use StaffPad as a library of sounds so I can copy XML files from Dorico to StaffPad, apply the appropriate sounds, and copy the audio to my files. Otherwise, it doesn’t seem like StaffPad developers are much interested in improving the core attributes of the software, which is a shame.
It's possible to write drum set score? And if I have ipad and windows, can I buy it once and download both version for use it ? because I have windows at home and ipad at work
Hello, I just got the app and I’m struggling to write notes below the staff. I was trying to write a low g half note and it was just not recognizing it. Any tips?
Why does my writing turn orange, and how do I make it black again? (Not the bar, my actual penstrokes). I've accidentally triggered this orange mode in both scores I've created just to learn Staffpad, and I don't know what it means or how to turn it off. I can't find a video or help thread that addresses this. Thanks in advance!
Why does StaffPad only write on one line, infinitely out to the right? Why can't you write down the page with it, like normal music notation? In other words, why doesn't it populate the entire page with measures, instead of one long, endless line? I can't get used to writing music that way; it is impossible for me to look back to see what I did in earlier measures, because I can't tell which measures I'm looking for.
I got this today. Can't understand comments saying the program doesn't recognize anything. It really not that hard. It's not a magic tool, of course you have to adapt to what StaffPad wants you to write to an extent. But if you have problems writing a simple forte, the problem is you
Yes, but I need a national video for Drumset and also I need Ukulele added. This would be such a beneficial app for teaching private virtual lessons but it’s kinda worthless at the moment. Apple Pencil on 2020 iPad Pro works great but the app crashes every 3-5mins.
I bought and am learning Staffpad. But one thing that simply does NOT function is the erase effect as demonstrated in the presentation...UNLESS I go the the settings option and tell the program to show the eraser in the toolbar. Then toggle it (the UI) on when I want to erase. If I simply "press" lightly on my (brand new ) iPad all I get is a lot of squiggly lines which also stay on the page. Anyone else have that issue? BTW - I also researched the Apple site regarding "double tapping" and know that "double tap" function is a double tap on the pencil itself...IF helps correctly...but not not on the "double tap" screen itself....
Bonjour, C'est un super logiciel mais j'ai un souci, je n'arrive pas encore choisissant un quatuor de saxophones à avoir une armure différente pour les instruments en Sib et ceux en Mib. Merci de me guider svp.
Compatible with non-apple pencils? My pencil works fine everywhere else, but I cant seem to write in Staffpad. It worked fine during the tutorial but not after that.
It's really unfortunate that all the teaching videos are only in English. This program is UNIVERSAL. Music is an UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE. You really should make versions of the tutorials in other languages because your program IS THE BEST!

You just pmlong press below the note and press text than type F and a verity of fprtes comes up

Hello I’ve StaffPad. How do you write naturals? The app doesn’t recognize them...
Musescore is much more comfortable!
Hello, I just got the app and I’m struggling to write notes below the staff. I was trying to write a low g half note and it was just not recognizing it. Any tips?
Just put in any note then slide that note down to where you want it.
I guess I had to be Da Vinci or michelangelo for the app to recognize my note drawing.
Just zoom in, then It’s easier.

I literally spent more than 10 minutes to write the natural sign. Sharps and flats, almost the same thing. It’s tiring and a real headache😢
Can you write in chord names above the staff like in a jazz chart?
Yes it has that option now, it will even suggest chords for you!
