Description:
The Piano Sonata, BB 88, Sz. 80, is a piano sonata by Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, composed in June 1926. 1926 is known to musicologists as Bartók's "piano year", when he underwent a creative shift in part from Beethovenian intensity to a more Bachian craftsmanship.
The work is in three movements, with the following tempo indications:
1. Allegro moderato
2. Sostenuto e pesante
3. Allegro molto
It is tonal but highly dissonant (and has no key signature), using the piano in a percussive fashion with erratic time signatures. Underneath clusters of repeated notes, the melody is folklike. Each movement has a classical structure overall, in character with Bartók's frequent use of classical forms as vehicles for his most advanced thinking.
The Hungarian composer Bela Bartok wrote this piano sonata in 1925. I consider Michelle Candotti's playing the best rendition
Wowwwwww❤ from Argentina!
I have played and loved Bartok for fifty years. This is the absolute benchmark performance of this fantastic piece.
Thank you Brian, I also love Bartok. This one and Concerto n.3 are my favourite Bartok pieces
@@MichelleCandotti HI Michelle, thanks for your response. The only issue I have w your performance is your not playing the soft, piano dynamics truly piano. I understand that many pianists who perform in halls tend not to play true piano, but the granite harshness of the Sonata could be well highlighted by true pianos (and pianissimos). Also, I think you'd play Out of Doors fantastically, especially Night Music.
@@MichelleCandotti Please don’t think I meant to offend, and if I did, then I apologize. But I definitely hearing your doing all of Barton’s piano literature, such as the Suite or even Allergo Barbaro.
I'd really like her to perform his first concerto. I bet it would be better than Yuja's.
Sempre più brava
Che dinamicità
Wow! This is such a beautiful work but BB. The bear dances, snippets of folk melodies and rhythms…spicy and hauntingly beautiful.
GREAT PIANIST!!YOUNG!! Best wishes from Brazil!!
Beautiful performance, and the right piano to boot. Yamaha pianos always seem to have a slightly more percussive sound than other grands, and it works perfectly in this sonata.
You are absolutely AMAZING!!! Love your style, the moments of fury and fire, the moments of calmness and the cantabiles. You're the artist that is really hard to find these days. Reminds me of Rubinstein, Larrocha, Michelangeli, Richter, Economou, Argerich and Nelson Freire. All the best to you and I hope you win the Chopin Competition this year! Cheers from Brazil!
❤
Excellent technique, use of dynamics... excellent EVERYTHING.
Most enjoyable indeed ! And it is delightful to see you and listen to you again :) Greetings and best wishes !
Thank you Dimitri!
Formidable! Like BB a lot- nice to see you playing it so well!
What an absolutely fabulous rendition of this amazing sonata. I had not heard it before - but have listened to you playing it thrice since. You have actually managed to capture the hidden nuances and the very essence of this piece. I look forward to hearing you in concert in the near future...and wonder which composer you would choose to play most.
Thank you so much! I love so much Chopin and Liszt, but I also find so refreshing to play Bartok. Third Concerto, would be a dream
Bloody EXCELLENT!
awesome piece & performer........ wonder if she'll someday be playing Berg, Barber, Prokofiev, Carter..... Scriabin? thanks so much for posting this
I have some ideas on my mind, these last months I worked mostly on Chopin and Liszt :D
Nice
