As an Italian I could clearly hear some Italian chattering! 4:36 "Non ancora" (translates to "not yet") 4:39 "Questa è la prima..." (translates to "this is the first...") It makes me feel home 😂
here's a fun fact for ya, the day france fell to the Nazi's in WWII they actually cut the ropes on the elevators, so that way if the Nazi's wanted to put a nazi flag on top of the tower, they'd have to take the stairs, needless to say a nazi flag didn't get up there lol
Pity they didn't have the guts to fight the Nazis, and they just laid down, rolled over and died!!!! If they had showed more spunk the Nazis might have ran!
A very informative video. I didn’t know years ago they had to change lifts halfway up the last stage . Thanks very much young man. Your well researched video has educated me .
RODALCO2007 Hey, thanks for your comments! I was hoping to get on one of their special guided tours where they go under the tower to see the main lifts motor room (as described in this video) but we were a few days too late - all tickets sold.
The older lifts are made by Otis, installed by Otis's sons (or grandsons) themselves if I don't make any mistakes. But for the other lifts I don't know who build them
MrChay is an absolute gem!!! I am a little upset as we are going to Paris next month but they are closing the access to the top for maintenance during the time that we will visit. :( At least I got to see it through your eyes - thanks for the lovely and informative video!
+Dana Born oh nooooo! That must be soooo disappointing as not going up to the top of the eiffel tower is a MUST! Thanks for your comment and I suppose it will make your next trip up the eiffel tower worth it (when you go again).
At 1:30 you say the two lifts in the South pillar go to the second and third floors (i.e the top). I don't think this is true - they go to the first and second, not all the way up. The Jules Verne restaurant is on the second floor.
If the elevators that go to the top work as a counterweight what if the top one that pull the bottom one up is less crowded and weight less? Does that mean the elevators wont move?
Had you ever seen the Galleries Lafayettes lifts ? I have very few memories of them as i've only riden them when i was a little kid and after that, they've been completely changed for modern elevators. Such a shame, they did keep one of the old lifts as an exhibit in the base floor though. I always wondered why they didn't at least try to keep the style.
I did have a quick look for these lifts, but unfortunately couldn't find a video showing the old 'unmodernised' lifts. I will have another look later though and thanks for the info.
They have been modernized such a long time ago, unfortunately. I remember riding the very old ones when i was about 4. Since then they have been modernized twice, the first time they sort of kept a vintage style, the second time they were completely replaced with glass elevators.
In 2010 when I went with my dad to eiffel tower I was so scared to ride this lift which goes from lvl 2 to lvl3 . Besides all the *bang* noises coming from that lift. Hah :D
Wow, pretty tallest tower than Blackpool I live in my place I am! I'll never place there before guess is... It's so awesome place is very wide and so tallest tower the way up to sky is!!! 😲😵
Mr Chay - You did a fantastic job narrating this video. I think it was better than your dad's (don't tell him I said that) ... Very nicely done and its great to see at least some of the original lift gear in place. I bet you would have loved to go back in time to when they were first completed for a nice drink in the lounge at the very top, I know I would that's for sure. Trey trey bon Mr Chay :)
Good he deserved it. I didn't hear the audio last time as the boss was asleep next to me. I have my own room now. BTW congrats on the Pripiyat video's they are great. Out of interest did you take a dosimeter with you and if so how many Rad's or roentgen's did you soak up?
I just recently went and its so different from two years ago when this video was shot. Now it's newly renovated and the only bad thing is that these men try to sell you souvenirs, and their really aggressive about it.
I,Glenn Jimmy Klain design this tower,I am photograph with our School principal Mr .Richard Pratt ,at Carlisle,Pennsyvannia. Its the place I draft this tower, foreigners bought the prints during the art show, for the worlds fair.I went there with my brothers, from Tonalea AZ.
Hi, These being the ones that go up the "legs" of the building and server floors G, 1 and 2? If you see the start of movie at 2:34, there are two platforms to enter either the top of bottom section of the lift. On the upper levels, it's the same, but the first/second floor actually have separate levels.
Yes. This is the access into the tower if you don't want to walk up the stairs. If you're going there do the behind the scenes tour like I did in my second series of videos. Not only do you get to see the lift hydraulic room but you go to the front of the queue also!
I was up there about 8 years ago and asked them to open that door so I could go down the stairs, having walked the rest of the way... the answer was a polite but firm "no" :-/
A bit late for that unfortunately. This would have made the video better but this is one of my earlier videos...the intro was added to all videos not long after this video. Thanks for the comment
+Jack Silver awww the eiffel tower should be on everyone's bucket list. .. i must admit though coming back down the stairs with all the strange angles of the structure really plays with your head if you don't like heights

i loved the video....i was fortunate enough to visit the eiffel tour in 2004 and this brings back fond memories

lol, interesting comment! I was hoping you weren't going to translate it to "look at that guy filming the lifts, idiot isn't he?".
4:03 Now, THERE'S something you don't see every day: a French person chewing gum.
here's a fun fact for ya, the day france fell to the Nazi's in WWII they actually cut the ropes on the elevators, so that way if the Nazi's wanted to put a nazi flag on top of the tower, they'd have to take the stairs, needless to say a nazi flag didn't get up there lol
yes yes, I did read that somewhere also! Very interesting. Would love to see how they cut them and then restored the system afterwards.
I think the Nazis carried one banner up. It only stood for a few hours before it blew away.
Hahahahahahahaha take that nazis

Great video, father and son commentary, brilliant. Last time i was up the Eiffel Tower was in 1999. It has changed a bit. Keep up the good work.

OTIS actually posted a video of the elevators to the top, and it seems they have upgraded the machinery, the controls, and the elevator computers.
Thank you for such detailed video.
+Alex Johns Glad you enjoyed watching it :)
Sweet!!! Thank you for posting this!!!
+BingCherry11 Glad you enjoyed watching it :)
Nice video. Love Chay's comments!
Very enjoyable ! ...I dont think I could go up that tower though, even the Laxy wheel in the Isle of Man was too much for me !

DId you know that the lift uses water preasure to go up and down?

+King Wacky It would just mean that the motor would have to work a little harder. It's not a big deal, but I suppose it will be less efficient.

My 11 year old is fascinated with the Eiffel tower but kept saying but where are the elevators? Your video was perfect to answer all her questions.
+Heather Collard wow that's amazing! I'm glad it helped her. My son is 11 years old as well. Do you plan to visit or have you visited already?
No plans at this time we are in America so that would be a very big trip for us. Someday she will get there.

very nice, mate ! i made me travel too :)
Btw where are the ropes for lift at 7:53
Just imagine if the floors of the lifts to the top floors were transparent
that would be cool, but I guess not everyone would be happy with it ;)
thanks :)
Otis made those!
nice thanks :-)

Superman took me here.
It looks like one big steel girder. Nowt special, at all.

Do the elevators cost money to ride
Yes. This is the access into the tower if you don't want to walk up the stairs.

On a MrBeast video of the expensive vacations i found that the top lift of the tower was actually modernised by the same brand (OTIS)

Thats the MrBeast Video that appears the tower

i live for the day that the descending from 3rd to 2nd platform is permitted on foot..
I was up there about 8 years ago and asked them to open that door so I could go down the stairs, having walked the rest of the way... the answer was a polite but firm "no" :-/
You mean from the top floor down to level 2? Yeah, would have loved to walk down from there as perfect view of the lifts coming up :)
Why am I having Duran Duran View to a Kill stuck in my head XD
+Royann Greenwood haha!! Yes, I loved all the older bond films!
Imagine walking up and down that monster on the stairs only be fun at first then its gets a little tiredness
Put on some music like Welcome to the Eiffel Tower enjoy the ride
A bit late for that unfortunately. This would have made the video better but this is one of my earlier videos...the intro was added to all videos not long after this video. Thanks for the comment
Otis elevator
But dad we just got here 3 minutes ago
I've been there, it sways :P
Scaryyy
I have been up there 8 times in my life.
Its Great man made structure
jjagddeesh
Um
I want to Paris Eıffel Tower. I am Turkish. GOMEZ GRANDE SWİFT CYRUS RİHANNA BEYONCE ......
Um?
kid its called an elevator
Jonathan Little nope it's a lift only the americas uses elevator
we invented it so we name it :p
That's highly debatable Elisha Otis only invented the safety potion of it.
Elevator is American. Other places, like the UK, use lift.

Your son reminds me of my son when he was that age. His mother is Philippina and I miss him when he was that age.

same here man, my fear of heights is so bad that i'd literally lock up on the spot inside the elevator
