  • More than 60 Ice Cream Products Recalled Over Listeria Contamination 26.06.2024
Over 60 ice cream products, including Chipwich Vanilla Chocolate Chip, Jeni’s Mint Chocolate Truffle, and Hershey’s Cookies & Cream Polar Bear ice cream sandwiches, are being recalled due to possible listeria contamination.
Totally Cool Inc., based in Owings Mills, Maryland, issued the recall for various brands like Hershey’s, Friendly’s, Chipwich, and Jeni’s. The recall affects pints, sorbet, ice cream cakes, sandwiches, and cones.
The FDA has reported no illnesses so far. Production and distribution were halted after FDA testing found listeria. Totally Cool is investigating and taking preventative actions.
Consumers should return recalled products for a refund. Identification can be done using date and plant codes on the labels.
Chipwich’s parent company, Crave Better Foods LLC, emphasized their small, separate production line and stated the recall was made out of caution. Hershey’s Ice Cream also ceased sales and advised disposing of potentially contaminated items.
Listeria can cause serious infections in young children, elderly, and those with weakened immune systems, and can lead to miscarriages or stillbirths in pregnant individuals. Healthy individuals might experience milder symptoms like fever and gastrointestinal issues. The CDC notes that around 1,600 people are infected with listeriosis annually in the U.S., with approximately 260 deaths.
