This is one of the most iconic cover songs in history... they took a perfect song and created a completely new perfect song out of it. Amazing, still today!
Brings me back to summer 1987 at 17 years old racing around back roads with my dirt bike, no helmet, wind in my hair, Sony Walkman on max with this song. No real cares at the time with lots of freedom in the world. Times have changed and freedom has been greatly eroded with the direction humanity has taken. Kids today will never know what that time was like and it's sad.
This song for the last 7 ish years has made me tear up because it's one my grandma liked to play when I stayed at her house overnight as a child/teenager. It made me tear up after I stopped staying at her house once I got older, and I thought about the fact that it probably wouldn't be long until I lost her. We lost my uncle, her son, who lived with her, in 2022 in an accident. Tomorrow is my grandma's 80th birthday. Life is so weird sometimes... out of all my grandparents, she is the only one left, and the rest all passed away aged 67-71. We never thought for a second my grandma would be the one to make it to her 80s with all her health issues, hatred of going to the doctor... let alone the grief she's been through. This song still makes me tear up because I know it won't be long until all that's left of my grandma is memories, but I enjoy every moment I spend with her. ❤

It's a great cover, and better than either Willie *or* Elvis did, but best cover of all time has to be Whitney covering Dolly's "I Will Always Love You"...
When this song came out, I remember hearing a comment on the radio from a former country music producer who said that the PSB version was much better then the Elvis or Willle Nelson version.

GO! GO! You went away! This should make me feel better!! 57 years old and I remember those words as if it is 1983 when I joined the Navy and stayed in for 24 years. The scenes in a lot of these 80’s videos bring back a lot of good memories of bygone times that’ll never be again. This song is timeless. My grandchildren will hear this song in the future
my absolute fave song of the xmas season in 1989 in the cold, cold Canadian prairies. Now i dance to this song with my wife and kids and we just adore it.
It is my all-time favourite song :)
Essa banda continua sendo um show.
Do you have Finnish heritage, cause your last name doesn't sound very.. Canadian :D Hartikainen is a common last name here in Finland
Yes, my father was born in Helsinki and emigrated to Canada with his family in the 1960's.
Michael Hartikainen Oh cool. :) Do you speak Finnish yourself at all?
May 2024❤??
The best cover of a cover! And the 80s were great also...!
Cover of a cover?
Ah, now I got it... I'm going to research about Brenda...
@@meganshell Thanks!...
@@meganshell No, actually, B.J. Thomas first recorded it in 1970. The first artist to release it was Gwen McCrae, in 1972. Then followed by covers that same year by Brenda Lee, then Elvis Presley.

GO! GO!
You went away!
This should make me feel better!!
57 years old and I remember those words as if it is 1983 when I joined the Navy and stayed in for 24 years.
The scenes in a lot of these 80’s videos bring back a lot of good memories of bygone times that’ll never be again.
The mind is an awesome little place to have for the memories that no one wants to hear or care about.
ok
Wish you’d said you were in the Navy...I just couldn’t tell.
80's rule. Period. Im 55 and STILL listening to my 80s music....it feels so right to remember. Damn. Lol
Navy Retired those times we lived the 80 will never be gone if people of the 80 still live On :) go 80...

Give Me Memory Of My Late Dad 🙏❤.... Today Marks 2 Years... Always On My Mind Dad 😢❤ Forever In Our Hearts ❤ Rip John Anthony Zebeluk 🙏😢
36 years have passed and it still sounds great! This will be played in 1000 years!
Not really, the amount of good songs from the past that we don't know...
I recommend having s*x to this song. Climax during the chorus makes you feel like you're in the music video.
Indeed it will
Will mankind still exist in a thousand years?
This song was written more than 50yrs ago. With The Pet Shop Boys being 4th in line to release their own VERSION of the song. Brenda Lee, Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, John Wesley Ryles all covered this song in the 70s. REAL fans know this!!
Love it
Who doesn't? 🤩😎😎

what a lovely sound that is both thought-provoking and saddening, when commenting words are not enough
Hands down, BEST version of this song EVER!! The way his voice drops each time he says "You were always on my mind" the second time, gives me chills. Awesome.... but then again, what have these guys done that isn't?
Absolutely Jim, but let's remember Elvis doing this first time.
@@malcolmclements9254 nevermind, this is still better version
@@malcolmclements9254 sometimes covers can be better than the original. This is one of those songs.
This song reminds me of my father, of how I took him for granted while he was alive. I made him feel my second best, but he was always on my mind, he was always my hero.
Sad to see Joss Ackland died on 19th Nov 2023. This more than anything is what I remember him from. Rest in peace Joss
