Thanks God! I finally found an amazing footage of the Angelina lauro, though that ship never appeared in video
I loved Wellington as it was then. Thank you for sharing this!
This is Gold. Thank you for sharing. 👍
Great memories. I see the Angelina Lauro. I'm not sure how many times this cruise ship came to NZ, but it could well be 1968, as I went on this ship on a cruise with my family. It departed in I remember from Wellington in December 1968. The first stop was Fiji, then New Caledonia, then Sydney, where we changed vessels to the Archille Lauro, all the way through to Fremantle, On the Great Australian Bight, the weather was so wild, waves broke windows on the bridge. Fortunately I had gained my sea legs by then. I was 8 at the time.
On March 30, 1979, on a cruise, Angelina Lauro was berthed at St Thomas, US Virgin Islands, when a fire broke out in a galley, spread, and damaged the vessel beyond repair. Three months later, in mid-Pacific while being towed towards Asia prior to being scrapped, it took on water and sank. The Angelina Lauro had a remarkable career, spending most of WWII as an Australian hospital ship while still under the command of its Dutch crew.
Interesting to see the history on the Angelina Lauro thank you. The sister ship on the cruise from NZ in late 1968 was the Archille Lauro. Also interesting history I remember, later on was hijacked en route.
Ah, the James Smith corner. And good old St Mary of the Angels.
I was hoping for a shot of Golden Chips, best chips ever.
A garage full of those 1960s cars in the same condition would be worth heaps.
That Morris Minor. My Morry rego was CM1 way before people bought personalised plates…
My friend in Khandallah had a light grey Morris Minor rego CM12.
The year before decimal currency came in, a sleepy little city, first visited there in '69.

My grandma just drove past in here Morris minor 😂 2:16
