@@dhankkito none of us are getting out alive. At our age we plan so we don't leave our loved ones in debt and wondering what we want. My son said he's not having a wake but rather a party to celebrate my life! I loved he's gonna celebrate my life. He grieve, we all do. I want him to do what helps him and my other friends and family get past the grief and remember all the days I lived, not focus on the one day, the one day we're all going to have.
Love this song. I'm 68 now and mu life is in shambles. I just want to go back to my old/own home with my family. Too many struggles in life anymore. Could I succeed at Carbon monoxide poisoning. I don't have enough medication to get the end of my life. I've lost too many loved ones, and my heart is totally shattered. I just want to be with them in Heaven if I make it there. One of the few songs that gets me to bawl, the moment it starts. I'll never say my generation was a better one but, I truly miss the way things were, around the time this was a new hit on the radio. People in general, were different. Not as brash with each other. Sure, every generation has it's assholes but overall, there seemed to be a respect for each other that no longer seems to exist. Well, I don't hate any of ya. All the best to ya.
Jerry Muzak You so right. There were terrible thing going on, but I think we want thing to be nice place, gentle place, a friendly place. People are to tense now and I hate that part. No room to make mistakes, so much more separate group love. And judgement now. Maybe that is how you feel when you get older. You loose hope and die and make room for the next group to take over.
I am 75 and this song does bring that feeling of conclusion to one’s days. I am a borne again Christian and I no longer fear death. It has been hangin over my shoulder for many many years. Great song…
I'm 63 now, I was 10 years old when this song came out on AM radio. What the younger generations can never ever fully know, is EVERYBODY in 1969 knew someone (,a friend, a neighbor, a family member) who died in Vietnam. It was definitely a time of very high ups, and very low downs.
So very true @robinmills5643 in elementary school when this came out even the older generations felt this song touches the heart and stands the test of time!
My husband thought this song was over-produced. To this day, I still think it was a masterpiece of modern music when it was really good! Man, 1964- 1977 or so, the music was so fabulous! I feel sad that kids today can't hear this kind of music.
@@terrynelson9726 That's so great! My son was born in '74 so he grew up with the best of both the 60's and 70's. this song was out when I got my orders for Nam, weighed on my mind with all the emotions that go with an uncertain future, now 54 years after the war it still stirs up some strong emotions and instantly transports me back to 1970.
How did these young musicians and bands have such keen insightful lyrics and evocative music at such a young age in the 60s? Its incredible...will never ne topped ever happen again
I've always been amazed at how young most of the musicians who wrote Classic Rock songs (for want of a better title) like this. They had to be too young to feel the feelings they wrote about. I've given it a lot of thought. I read constanly from the time I was eight years old - far over my age-level so I'd read of people having feelings like this but I could never have written anything close to this; let alone set it to music. Did they read a great deal? I've never been able to figure out these young musicians wrote such mature, meaningful lyrics.
Adversity and watching wars and assassinations live on television drove our minds into right brain mode to influence the universe. We had no helicopter parents. We had real and true responsibility.
In the music you can hear in what time it has been produced. So music is not a historiebook, but a mirror of the souls in that time. In the 60's and 70's you still hear romantics, love, kindness and beauty. And now being 58, its all gone in the music of these days. I cherish the old music, my memories and my wife.
Someone in the comments here described this song as “hauntingly beautiful”… perfectly written my friend. I love this song but it’s so tearing to my heart. Still can’t stop listening to it. I can’t imagine any other band playing this timeless tune. Thank you Marmalade ❤
I read he wrote this song about a soldier in Vietnam that is homesick and wanting to go home and scared of dying and the world being a bad place due to the war.
I knew of the song but have been watching a 60s music show on TV and they play this song quite a lot, I've always liked the song but never really listened to the lyrics until recently. What a beautiful melody and words, makes you think of your life, good and bad, the family and friends you've loved and lost.

You never know what can affect you in the future. You think you’re indestructible. I know I did. I still have so much to give to my family my grandkids! Time is flying by so fast! I wouldn’t change my past because it’s who I am today. But dang it it sucks getting old. Like Clint Eastwood said Don’t let the old man in!!

The sadness that was inside me and what I see in others also makes me want to live just to give a little love to those in that pain. Don't know how I got happy one day and it stayed so I cry for those who still hurt.

I hope you’re doing okay now

Miss this kind of music so much , no auto play
I’m 61 and grew up in the 70’s. This song makes me think of my life and how I abused my body with drugs. Been clean since 94 been all of my past is catching up with me.
Here, it's another my favorite loved songs that bring tears to my eyes... Yes! Take me back to my old days... when I played this song with an electric guitar bass 🎸in a band back then... 😢😢😢💓💓💓💓💓!!!
One of my late husbands favourite songs, so emotional for me this song
Life is but a blip in time. Here today. Gone tomorrow. Loved it on radio in 1970. I thought the 70s would never end. Sadly, it did. And, what do we have here today?! Released on February 28, 1970 reaching #10 on May
9. Should have been #1. Today's radio, take that!
Lagu ini pertama kali kudengar tahun 1970 (kls 1 SD) tp sampe skrg tetap enak didengar, bagiku lagu ini sangat indah dan msk kategori lagu abadi.
Fringe, you know I still listen to this all the time. I am only getting older, and soon I will be like Dean, singing this, and thinking of my own life ending. After he wrote an almost unspeakable truth, we are getting closer to want to go back to my old home. Thanks for the comments you and I made about this song and about Dean. I know it must have been an honor to record this classic Masterpiece with Dean. Respectfully yours, Dave In Sierra Vista AZ
Amo esta canción, forma parte de mi vida.
A rather eclectic collection of sounds and rhythms and voices and melodies that come together very nicely. It all fits.
First time listening to this song just because Liam Hemsworth posted this on his IG Story. 🧡🤗
Love it ❤️🤗

Wow.....great song, great lyrics and sound.... I recently read Marmalade turned down Everlasting Love, made into a hit by Love Affair. Some you win...some you lose.

Love this song!! ❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful, pulls at my hesrt strings. Never gets old❤❤❤
This is a song about sadness and pain, but there is such a sweetness to it. Even the instruments are played in a soft and delicate way.
Thank you for this video! One of my all time favorite songs and the pure simplicity of your video matches perfectly with the song. (And who the hell is the one person that actually dislikes this?!!! Seriously!)
Um clássico que me faz pensar em algo que ainda não vivir. As boas música nunca envelhecem
"The world is a terrible place to live, but I'm afraid to die" ... I love this song, and agree it's iconic, one of the best to come out of the '60's and '70's, but lyrics seem unnecessarily depressing ...
Beautiful song, sung by guys from my neck of the woods! Dean Ford had a voice and a half! I may well have this played at my funeral!
this song make me cry sometime
I just heard it and could pay closer attention to the lyrics and it made me cry
And me too!💕
Me 2
Nothing stays the same.... and yet nothing is new
Me too
One of my all time top 10 songs....would be my pick for my eventual funeral.
January 1, 2021. What a different world we live in!!! "The greetings of people in trouble, reflections of my life. Take me back to my own home!!" Peace in 2021!!!!!!! God bless all
It's old home
The sadness that was inside me and what I see in others also makes me want to live just to give a little love to those in that pain. Don't know how I got happy one day and it stayed so I cry for those who still hurt.
Oh man I wish that I could have that one changing moment in my life that would come and stay I don't look forward to tomorrow because even if I do have a good one which is doubtful I know it won't stay, I've tried everything thing I know, Dr.s, medicine, counseling, hospital, religion but it all seems impossible and overwhelming. But with your message I have hope that that one special moment will come, thx
@@ericseckman6138 I was where you are right before that change. Thank you for your reply making other people smile laugh or just have a moment of thought knowing that I can help even for 1 second brings me great hope I can find a way to give that which you seek 2 all. Re-training my brain like de- programming all I learned is where the change started.
Gracias por compartir estas letras tan hermosas🥰🙏
Saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱

Yes for me the same, my favorite music and song! The music makes me still happy and emotional 👍🏽
Oh how I miss the 70's. Life was soooo different then.
Unless you were dodging bullets in Quang-Tri Vietnam in 1970 like I was.
Andre Cartier
I was 14 when this song was released and of course loved the melody but didn't have a clue of the profundity of the words. The writer of these lyrics may have been young but it is clearly the words of an old soul.💖🧘
I was born 1944. Kids today cant appreciate the good ole days
