It’s not something that white people really think about until we get close. Then I look around, “My wife is the only black woman on the bloody deck/resort.”
Then protector mode comes in, and I start the mean mugging and staring back at the older people that are staring at us. Most of them aren’t bout anything when you retaliate lol. What I do find sometimes is that the Europeans are very reserved. We Americans talk to anyone we meet for the first time and we are always polite. Europeans do not do that with strangers. And generally you will find that is the case in almost every country except the US. That is one good quality we have. Now, when you befriend them, they will be your closest friends and will help all then can. They will invite you to dinner at their home unlike us Americans who only do that at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The Philippines has the most friendly people. But they too are very shy with talking to strangers for the most time. So for me in my past I have misjudged some folk as being prejudiced, but once we started talking i found them to be very caring friendly people.
But I am sure there are some that may indeed be very prejudiced.

Thank you for sharing your observations. As soon as I read the title (only) on my lock screen, I immediately thought, "this must be about MSC".
Also in an interracial marriage and over the 23 years we've been together, we've experienced our fair share of racially charged "stuff". We decided to give MSC a try a few years back. Our experience was similar, and bad enough that we made the decision to never cruise on them again.
We have maintained that and your video confirmed for me that we are/were not alone in our sentiments. Thank you once more for sharing.
Hopefully others will have different, better experiences. And for them, I'll be happy. I however, will not give them a chance to change my mind.

I add that whatever flag the ship sails under and whatever law applies to the minor in theirs, it is your own country's law that applies to you. Aside from Romeo & Juliet laws for minors 14-17 within 3 years for Canada age difference it is 18+ consent laws here. And people who mess with kids are not liked in prison here either and no one wants to find out 1st hand what will happen to ' goofs' in Canada if in general population. Though I can't allow myself to condone violence against anyone in retribution I can admit I am not so high minded as to say I'm going to lose any sleep over their fates. 24/7 isolation should be an option for them is as far as I go! I just know I'm not going to have a good time if I go somewhere and I stand out. It's hard enough just being gay but imagine being black and then trying to just go on and enjoy yourself. I need to know these things. Also I understand how hard it is to be in an interracial relationship. I was on MSC Seascape 7 day cruise last week. My husband and I who are African American/Black saw approximately only 10 other Black people on the cruise. We purchased 2 Specialty Dinners and was isolated and segregated both times. On a ship with thousands of people we were flabbergasted when we were in a section of the restaurant with 2 other Black couples. It was weird. We commented to one another how strange and why was this done. Was it because the mostly “other” clientele wouldn’t want to be around us? That’s 6 out of 10 in one section alone, only us 3 couples. The rest of the restaurant was buzzing and full. It was Valentine’s Day. We often got strange, curious looks when moving about but nothing disrespectful. The staff is mostly great but a few who I know I intentionally overlooked us. But, the staff that was great were actually exceptional who went out of their way for us. (Hope this makes sense). Thankfully, my husband and I are very confident and enjoyed ourselves though we felt nearly invisible. Overall this ship is highly organized, the food is average. The pasta is always al dente. The internet is horrible. The private island is a waste of time. The Spa is awesome. Desert was better than the food.

Ouch 😮 I was on MSC in January and had a somewhat different experience. I really appreciate your perspective because I didn’t do any specialty dining or clubbing. As a Black woman married to a Puerto Rican man, I don’t run into any crazies… thankfully. There were actually lots of brown people on our sailing, but the international crowd wasn’t very friendly. Especially compared to the crowds on NCL and RCCL.
The life guards did a great job at keeping kids out of the adults only pool area, there were endless activities/fun for the whole family, my teen loved the water slides and Robotron. We didn’t see a ton of teens running wild, however my eyes were on my kids who were not at any clubs or bars.
We used the Aurea Spa Thermal Area and it was fabulous! It had every amenity that you could ask for and a good way to escape the crowd.
✨ My daughter has food allergies and this is the best experience that we have ever had. ✨ I would highly recommend MSC for this reason alone. They were so polite and accommodating that words cannot describe their service. My daughter’s food was always correct and she had a special desert every night. Additionally, the buffet was full of fresh healthy food so she did not have to request anything special for lunch. There were plenty of fruits/veggies, grilled meats that were separated from the seafood, plain rice, baked potatoes, pizza with no cheese as well as non dairy dessert options like jello.
We went to one show and left. We were not impressed with the entertainment. It definitely does not compare to Kinky Boots and Choir of Man on NCL’s Encore or The Book on The Odyssey of the Seas.

It's not cruise-related, but racist-related, but once, when I went to Italy with my husband back in 2015, I experienced something that may have related to my skin color (I'm black, he's mixed with white and Filipino, though he looks more white). We went to a cafe in Rome and the barista, who pleasantly spoke to my husband while taking his order, essentially ignored me, or answered me rudely. While people have told me that maybe it was something else, I always felt deep down that she treated me that way because of my skin color. This was disappointing, because up to that point our experience in Europe had been pleasant. It didn't rule my trip -- I loved Europe, but this incident still stands out to me.

I just watched this video about MSC, and I have to add my comments. I recently took my first cruise on this line, out of the US, having cruised multiple times on several different lines. About the only thing good I can say about them is their disembarkation process was the best I have seen. Everything from the initial interaction with the baggage handles, where they were actively asking for tips, the check-in process which was unduly long considering the amount of people present, and the fact you have to activate your ship card after you get on board instead of in the check in process was maddening for a cruise line with such a high reputation in Europe. Most of the entertainment was cancelled for various reasons. The idea of having a messaging app that all persons in your group can access is a great idea, if only it worked while at sea. There were many other reasons this cruise line gets poor marks from me, but suffice it to say I will not cruise with them again.

My wife and I have cruised on MSC twice. With our most recent one back to back from Feb 17th through March 2nd of this year. We went to the Bahamas 🇧🇸 Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 Jamaica 🇯🇲 Cayman Islands 🇰🇾 and Mexico 🇲🇽. We had a balcony room with a Jacuzzi. We were in room number 14234. We had a water leak in our bathroom the entire time. They tried to fix the issue but were unable to do so because we occupied the room. The food was ok. We didn’t like that there wasn’t much of a variety of food on a daily basis. It felt like we were eating the same thing every day. We were on that exact same ship. The Seascape.

My first boyfriend was from Germany and was groomed by a 25 year old woman in his local club when he was 13. She even introduced herself to his parents. WTF? Not to mention him buying whiskey for his dad at age 5, because dad was too busy to leave the office.

Teens in the nightclubs and bars after hours is absolutely a recipe for disaster. That policy must change. You are exactly right. Cultures aside, there is just too many things that could go wrong. Proper oversight is almost impossible in that scenario. Especially on the passing and consumption of alcohol and what it could lead to. My apologies to you and your girlfriend for the juvenile actions of others towards you. On the ship, we are ALL a cruise family. We should treat everyone as such.

I recommend you never go to Mediterranean countries, mainly during the summer. Sure it's not perfect, but European youth have lived and grown up like this for centuries, and seeing the criminality and behavior of American youth, I don't think the final result here is much better. I did grow up in Europe, but I have worked with LE in the US for 15 years; I understand you consider your culture the norm for everyone else to follow & obey, but you don't have the right to impose it. None is perfect, but telling other countries that they have to change their culture for US values... well, don't even try; respect it and if you don't like it, well you don't have to go.

I'm an old fart white man and I went on MSC and I liked it! My cruise buddy is a brown-skinned Puerto Rican dude, Spanish speaker. We had different cabins but spent a lot of our time aboard ship with each other--and the various women we met. The differences between my experience and yours were considerable. I wasn't aboard one of their megaships, and it was before the pandemic. I live in Miami, and cruise the Caribbean often. When Cuba was open as a port-of-call, all of the mainstream cruise lines assigned a small-to-medium sized ship to serve that demand. MSC was homeporting the Divina in Miami, but threw the Armonia into the mix. This is a charming 70,000-ton-class ship competing with the Majesty of the Seas, NCL's Sky and the Adonia, sailing under Carnival's "Fathom" brand. I could NOT resist their price for a 4-night cruise. My friend sensed nothing untoward him or his skin color. He was immensely popular with the unattached women from Europe and South America. Not so much the American women. The entertainment was outstanding, not depending on language skills. The food was passable, alternated between delicious and inedible. One thing: their pizzas were the BEST afloat, and I mean out of every cruise line available. The announcements in five languages made me a bit crazy, but the lady who ran the coffee shop kept my espresso demi-tasse full. Loved her. It was a fun time, not full of razzmatazz but it kept me entertained.

We found that the staff were less than helpful. Not that they were mean, very little inititave. Unsupervised gangs of kids everywhere. Leson learned. We try to stay away from the "Kids sail & eat free" promotions. The best Tapaniki experience that we have had, but the food in general was lack lustre. We did not care for the fixed dining time.
