Not everyday can we contemplate something philosophical and dabble in trendy technologies. Sometimes we just need silly Chompers to have mindless fun.
All kids inevitably end up playing video games - console, mobile, xbox and what not. Why not create a game and play it! Chomper will try and eat food in this game. This could be a good motivator to my kid (I can hope! :D).
Understanding visibility of variables is a crucial concept - there is a glimpse into this.
Movement along X and Y axes is also a basic concept not only in game development but in many contemporary fields.
Scratch gives introduction to these small but mighty concepts. And of course, one can have a silly game to play at the end.
