This song is certainly an EW&F masterpiece, I love this song. In fact there are quite a few masterpieces from the Faces album.... You, Sparkle, Back on the Road, You Went Away, Turn it into Something Good are all EW&F masterpieces. The Faces album was underrated and instrumentally one of their best albums.

I remember when I was a teenager when this song came out i loved that part where Maurice sang "baby baby baby what you gonna do?"
Maurice had a way of phrasing when he sang that it was often imitated by other soul groups & bands but NEVER duplicated..EWF were definitely ground breakers & ahead of their time

You nailed it! Reece wrote the words with Hall of Fame Songwriter: Brenda Russell, then had Jerry Hey arrange the Phoenix horns, and had David Foster do the strings. This is bliss. 🎼 Plus the band is locked! The rhythm section is like a Swiss Watch on this.

The most dynamic horn section of any band,...PERIOD! The arrangements were far more complicated and synchronized than Chicago's, Tower of Power, etc. It's not even debatable.
Jerry Hey, formerly Seawind, is the greatest popular horn arranger of all time. He did these charts, and built that signature EWF sound.

no doubt. the horn work in ''i am ready now'' by jennifer holiday is even more comlicated than in this song. her album was produced by maurice white and also a few members of ewf played in the session. ewf is the best band.

Anytime I listen to this track I always feel dancing at the end. This is magic. This album is a magic. Unfortunately in that year we lost the "funky" EWF but we got a "dancy" EWF, with frenetic sound. I love them.

When I hear songs like this I give thanks to the Universe that my life is right here, but it was also right there when songs like this cam out, groups that put out an art form that transformed into visuals and subliminal's that put infinite vibrational spirits into my soul. Hearing it again makes me access all the spiritual equity that was in my life at the time and the place of now. The disappointment and embarrassment of music today confirms that my Creator had a hand on me just so I could know the difference.

I recall, meeting Mr. White, in 1980 at Tower Records on Pennsylvania ave. He was in Washington DC. Promoting his solo album at the time. He's a down to earth man..

Reginald Styles The fact that some say it is underrated is a testament of EW&F being the greatest band of all time. Many bands past and present would give anything to have an album this amazing it is still one of my favorite road trip CD'S. So many great songs Sparkle, Pride, You, Back on the road, Sailaway, and Take it to the Sky, just to name a few. In my humble opinion EW&F has no equal....
