Skydiving has a perfect record. Not one single skydiver has ever been left up in the sky. EVER. They have ALL come down. So you see, you have nothing to worry about.
Well, I have flewn many times with an energency chute, and I can tell you one thing. Look down and open that chute in time. It looked like he got a fixation for that altimeter. Whatever it was, there is something seriously wrong with this person. How did somebody like that get into skydiving? If he were normal before, he should really go to a doctor. He could have early signs of dementia. Or he has another neurological problem. This is not a joke, this video is worrying enough. Let him find out what is going on, before he gets killed. Lower awareness and fixation can kill you in many situations. Skydiving, driving a car, crossing the road, you name it. So if you know him, please tell him to find medical help. Before it is too late.
@@GayCatDad You are absolutely right. I live near EHTE with an excelent skydiving school. And the guys doing their 10th jump there, are safer than this moron. He needs a serious debriefing with a skydiving instructor. The goal is not just call him a moron. He might even have a medical condition explaining a lot. So from watching this video and reading your comment I would guess AAD is some type of self deploying mechanism once a certain altitude is reached because I never saw him pull the chute. I was really entertained at the fact that he was smiling to his death😂
I heard this from one of my skydive instructors. Apparently these guys were so focused on getting good shots with their go pros they lost all altitude awareness and both aads kicked in. Big reason why the uspa requires at least 200 jumps before wearing a camera. Snag risk and distraction.
No doubt about it. My DZ would ban these guys from ever jumping again. This literally made me angry to watch. I would never exit any aircraft with either of these idiots!
I have 19 skydives now. And I can now understand how this happened. They got so focused on the task that they forgot to check altitude. It happened once to me. I was on STP 11, playing altitude tag with instructor. My pull altitude was 5,000. I completely forgot to check after 7,000 feet. Instructor finally got through to me at 4,000, and I deployed my main at 3,500. Not the best feeling. Just like these guys, I learned my lesson. Always check altitude every 5 seconds.
@@bufsabres2007 Because it’s your biggest fear, now it is less likely to happen. I have my license now. 42 jumps. I use a Viplo altimeter now. Eventually, I will buy my own helmet with an internal audible altimeter as well. This way, when you get to deploy altitude, it beeps in your ear. So there are many tools to help ensure you remember your altitude.

GREAT idea to video record this one so it can be seen over SEVEN MILLION TIMES at this point. You two are now immortalized despite trying so hard to prove your mortality.
USPA is 100 jumps for camera They were EXTREMELY negligent No doubt But it can happen Very focused on the task at hand Lost perception of short periods of time As for the ground They werent looking and are not experienced enough for changes in light
I'm not a sky diver but sky diving humor is all kinds of awesome!!!! Ive picked up all kinds of one liners since these videos started to appear in my YT feed.
I love how even after his AAD fired he still hardly flared for a landing, and yeah I kept seeing the ground get closer and closer they were just completely oblivious. Idk if I'd want to jump with those two
Probably still in disbelief that the chute deployed. And probably frozen when he realized how low he had become. I dunno how accurate an AAD is: but thank goodness it was calibrated well. 😳
I always said if I can see the the leaves in trees I’m low, better pull. When I was a student I would look at different altitudes what things looked like in case altimeter quit working.
The cameraman in this video is our dear friend Daniel Alvarez, aka Steve. He passed away on March 9th, 2020 after an accident on his motorcycle. I dont know anything about jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft, Or skydiving as you call it but surely pulling your parachute is in the top 3 things you should do after exiting the aircraft.?
Yes, it's in the top three. 1) PULL. 2) Pull ON TIME. 3) Pull STABLE. Altitude awareness is the number one priority. Some people shouldn't be skydivers and that guy is one of them.
Wow! These guys were going to spend the rest of their lives docked, which if the AAD failed to operate would have lasted about 4 seconds. I'm speechless. Having an AAD is pretty common, but its purpose is to save you in the event of being incapacitated. These guys are lucky to be alive.
If at first you don't succeed then give up skydiving. Man I don't think he should have followed him down that far. The automatic system should have saved him.
Bullshit, if you were a "past skydiver" you'd know that altitude awareness is a HUGE problem and people die every year from no pulls. You may have jumped from a plane on a tandem dive, but you were definitely never a "skydiver" if you can't figure out how someone would forget to pull. It happens.....a lot.
I've never been sky diving, I just love watching these, But even with out experience I feel like pulling my parachute would be something I'd be fairly eager to do...
@@MakerInMotion There is a saying on when to open the Parachute. When people look like ants.......open your chute. But when ants look like people , don't bother.
You would be surprised at how much you experience when you jump/fall out of a plane. I'll never forget my jump with a tandem instructor. At no point did I think' hurry up and pull the cord'. Perception and speed kinda messes up the risk evaluation process in your head! Hopefully I'll be able to go again soon.
@@Falconhunter276 Agreed-on my jump we got out at 18k. While there’s definitely a sensory overload-I could still tell how close we were getting to the ground by the disappearing of the sky on the horizon in my peripheral. How these guys didn’t realize is beyond me
Well, I cannot imagine that BEING intentional :)) also love how he repeatedly checks his alti in disbelief after landing :)) couldn't find a better spot for a crush landing too! :)
BOTH of them "forgot" lol wtf. I am a novice skydiver, my instructions are to pull at 5500 but every time I pull at 6000 ft. When my altitude hits 7000. I lock my eyes in on the altimeter.
The guy with the GoPro was the student's teacher. The student froze and was not pulling... It was teacher's fault as well for not grabbing him earlier and pull it for him. AAD saved both their lives...
@@ThanosStamatopoulos Dude stop pulling stuff out of your ass, this was NOT a student and teacher and this was not an AFF or coached jump either. An AFF instructor would have given the pull signal by 4500 feet, and if the student froze up would have thrown his pilot chute for him.
Fun fact #1 When a parachute is packed, it gets a certain number of folds and folded in a certain pattern so that when you deploy it, it comes out and the first part catches air and begins slowing you down at a comfortable rate. The next bits unfold from the air hitting the parachute and it slows you down more because as it unfolds it has a bigger area catching air. This happens until the chute has completely unfolded and is catching all the air it can and the final bits unfolded after you had lost a lot of air speed. Every skydiver has a second parachute as an emergency. The second chute is packed in such a way that when it is deployed, the entire thing comes out with no delay and catches all the air it can as soon as it can, as it is only ever deployed when you no longer care if it’s comfortable when you use the secondary chute. It comes out as quickly as possible to ensure if you use it very close to the ground, you are slow enough to not die when you hit the ground. Someone that knows lots about skydiving please correct me but I believe I’m correct, the automatic system that deploys at the last second when you have not pulled your own chute is the secondary emergency chute and the harness leaves bruising similar to the bruising from a seatbelt in a bad car accident. Also, this system logs that you did not pull your own chute and it had to save your life and you are then grounded from skydiving for a while before you can have your skydiving license back. At least that’s what I’ve heard here in Australia
Its ignored these days since skydivers dont record on 50 pound VHS tape recorders strapped to thier head anymore. It is still a valid rule imho. I followed it.
An audible altimeter should have been the solution to loss of altitude awareness (or better yet just checking every 5 seconds like you should have been taught). The AAD is for if you lose conciousness.

-Yes

Even I can see the beginners are beginners. Their landings are not always perfect. They are not precision landers too. But in general they are okay. And I never heard of stupid mistakes like this video.
Why did his chute not open automatically at a safe altitude? Those systems exist for good reasons. He just proved that.
He needs a serious debriefing with a skydiving instructor. The goal is not just call him a moron. He might even have a medical condition explaining a lot. A good skydiving instructor can help him get his skills to a safe level. Or he can convince him to sell his chute, if he won't listen. I heard this from one of my skydive instructors. Apparently these guys were so focused on getting good shots with their go pros they lost all altitude awareness and both aads kicked in. Big reason why the uspa requires at least 200 jumps before wearing a camera. Snag risk and distraction.
USPA doesn't require anything. It's only a recommendation, then different DZs have different requirements. Check out 6-8 of the SIM.
Its not a requirement.

And buy an audible. Or two preferably; I had mine running out of batteries on a jump the other day

@@bufsabres2007 Because it’s your biggest fear, now it is less likely to happen. I have my license now. 42 jumps. I use a Viplo altimeter now.
I would be pissed beyond belief as the instructor. Who jumps out of a plane and forgets that they will inevitably hit the ground either dead or alive?
It was the big dumb look and half grin that got me.
Those fools would have been a no pull statistic without those AAD'S.
Fun fact #1
When a parachute is packed, it gets a certain number of folds and folded in a certain pattern so that when you deploy it, it comes out and the first part catches air and begins slowing you down at a comfortable rate.
If it doesn't open slow enough it can be like being in a 125-164 mph car crash
Unbelievable. A world record.
