“Ctrl + Backspace” for deleting edges together with vertices (instead of Edit Mesh > Delete Edge/Vertex) is also the one I use quite often while modeling.
A hotkey I find handy when trying to navigate the camera through intricate scenes or rotate it in place is Alt+X, which toggles the Walk Tool. Holding any of the mouse buttons will let you look around, rotating the camera without translating it, and scrolling on the mouse wheel will zoom in and out rather than move it forward and back. Holding a mouse button and pressing WASD will allow you to move around horizontally as if you were playing an FPS game, with the speed depending on which mouse button is held as well as the tool settings, while Q and E move you up and down.
Thank you! I love it! Over the years using Maya, Maya has quite a lot of hidden features that quite annoying to stumble upon and this tutorial brings them to light.
11:35 I remember a few years ago when my manipulators for a few things were super huge and I couldn't figure out why lmao. Also, holy crap CTRL+P for a random color picker is extremely useful! Nice to know
on the manipulators tip, you forgot something very useful, at least for me. While middle click and drag is cool, you can also hold SHIFT + middle click and drag and it will constraint the movement on the direction in which you are moving the mouse, in a way simliar to blender when pressing x,y, or z in grab mode
There should be an option or more transparency to change some of the moore deep engrained shortcuts. For exampli, instealof using F9-F12 for component mode, I prefer to use 1-4 as in 3Ds. But when I changd it, it broke completely the system and I can`t use the 1-4 shortcuts in Hypershade and other views. Also there are some (awesome) marking menus that have their behaviou kinda of hiden in the keys, like the A and S marking menus that can only be acessed by pressing the key and then pressing hte mouse button. It should be easier to decouple that marking menu from the key and put it on another key and also change the Key shortcut on it`s default command.
many years ago (more than 7 years I thinks) I've learn one hot key that can "move object away from camera angle". but now I can't remember it of maybe it's been removed.
An old old BUG on Maya, is that it may give you INFITINE undos... BUT just a few, soometimes 0 Redos. So you can`t just revert compare and get back like in Max. If you uundo too much, it will just make you stuck and not able to redo back. Also, camera movements sometimes break it too. I`ve ben using maya for almost 10 years, and that bug was OLD then!
I need a very basic lesson on how to add color to an object and/or a component. I tried in class yesterday, and did not understand what the topics with color bars that can be clicked to open the color palet.
Sorry, I'm a little confused. Pressing D will bring up Pivot mode. The Delete key is used for deleting things. In general, you can check what action a hotkey is set to in the Hotkey Editor (shown at the end of the video).
@@Autodesk_Maya I'm on a standard mac keyboard and once you get past a certain point, you do need to use fn key in combination with the actual function keys. I think around f6 or 7
@@timaging You're right, I use Maya on a Mac too. You have control over this setting though: System Preferences > Keyboard > check 'Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys'. F8 - F12 then work in Maya. The only drawback is then to use the function keys for the mac features (like adjusting the volume) you then have to add the fn key.
Please Help! (Maya & PF Track) I got a sequence animated for 200 frames 8 seconds.(for a live action scene) 3 shots, 3 different angles for the same sequence.(Shot 1-frame 1 - 68, Shot 2 68- 188 shot 3 - 188- 200) I have match moved all three shots. Now How do I render the second shot which is (68 to 188) When I Import the (2nd) match moved camera, obviously key frame stars from 1 to 120. I WANT IT TO START FROM 68 and end at 188) How do I do It?? I'm new to this situation Please help!!!
You mean like macros? Maya doesn't have a macros recorder the same way Photoshop does, but you can automate basically anything using scripting (either Maya's native MEL language or Python). ua-cam.com/video/eXFGeZZbMzQ/v-deo.html
It s possible to not use the alt button in maya in time of camera view ? And also how can i see the real time render in my window just like you do .... I cant see no texture in my window but only white map of my characters i have inside ...
Unfortunately the Alt hotkeys are hard-wired into Maya, so they're not modifiable. If you're only seeing white models, I'd double check to make sure you're in Textured mode ("6" hotkey) and also that the Default Material is turned off in thee Panel Toolbar (help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2018/ENU/?guid=GUID-42224988-F140-4BFF-849B-F89CCB554E13)
You are literally a lifesaver dude I'm learning Maya for the first time and these shortcuts are going to save me so much time!!! 💕

Awesome! What I needed!! Moving from Max to Maya, this is really handy! Keep it up! Can't wait for other lists!!!
Thanks for this great list Matt. Especially helpful as many of these are not intuitive but once learned become indispensable. Please keep sharing.
Already hard at work on my next one. = )

very clean tutorial love it!
these were perfectly delivered
Thanks you made med create a new hotkay's profile, much faster workflow now :D
last time i did this most be like 2012 or something.
wow holding down K & ctrl + p ! I love it ! very useful video thanks
Great video, definitely more like this please!
Ctrl+1 does the same as Shift+i (isolate), but CTRL+1 much easier to reach on keyboard.
Ctrl+1 is toggle isolate select, which is not exactly the same as shift+i.
@@iouzzr How so?
I’ve been looking for a better workflow for the 2d and pan tool 😊
it is great shortcut, should everyone using maya learn this because it saving huge time

amazing vid
the hotkeys are making the work more easy and fast
but can I set 2 hotkeys for the same command?
Shift+I will just slow you down and interrupt your workflow, Try CTRL+1 for isolating Autodesk ! You will see the difference !

is soft select on ~2min when you rotate arms? neighboring verts appear to move very nicely
Indeed it is.
Great
great information ...thanks
When did you add Shift-drag to extrude? I'm on Maya 2017 and it doesn't work in that version :(
That was a quality of life improvement to Maya 2019.
i think its in 2018 already
how to change entire camera navigation key as 'spacebar" rather than alt?
Wait, what about delete. I keep clicking D, but it always brings rotate

f9-12 I'm assuming also requires holding the function key at the same time? That then makes using the spacebard easier
It depends on the keyboard you're using - for laptops this may be the case. On a standard keyboard, just pressing F9-F12 on the top row will suffice.

You can change the frame range in the Render Settings in the Common tab.
I've looked for an "actions" editor like photoshop has but i can't find one online or in maya. does anyone know if one of these exists?

alt + f4 for extrude
I use ctrl+1, instead of shift + I, does exactly the same thing
how is shift i different from shift h?
They're basically the inverse of each other. Shift + H hides the selected object. Shift + I hides everything EXCEPT the selected object.

apple mouse have not middle dragging :(
Try using Command + Left drag to simulate middle dragging.
