Andy , I have been watching you for close to a decade ( haha). BUT this composition is a superbly rich, textured, melodically new territory far into psychedelic or even Krautrock levels... kudos !!!
Andy missed a chance to troll us all - playing bass with a pick after after becoming known for using no plectrum with guitar would have been amazeballs. 😂
Play on words? 😃 I haven’t been watching guitar content for ten years but as soon as I found him I have been 100% on board. Always a good use of one’s time.
These are the kind of pedals I record for twenty minutes and then cut out samples. That is faster than trying to get the same sound out of them twice. (:
Death By Audio seems to be expanding themselves by trying new things, kudos to them for jumping outside their comfort zone and trying something a more .... Well, MORE.
I like that they aren’t just taking known, and unknown? circuits, then making them capable of intensely insane and wacky, spacey, and of Armageddon’s coming type noises, though I love quite a few of them. 😆 The Germanium Filter and Space Bender, definitely are more “usable by anyone” type pedals, while still able to get to the madness of most of their beloved effects.
It's like they are picking up where EQD gave up. EQD used to be the go to for weird niche effects, now all they do is churn out a dozen Tubescreamer and Big Muff circuits. Which IIRC is the exact thing Jamie Stillman said he didn't want to do in an interview some years ago. It's super disappointing how boring that company is now. Just playing it safe to keep the cash rolling in. I still think Caroline Guitar fills the gap between usable and weird better than anyone though.
@@Dr_Satan yeah.. iv'e wanted to really like EQD but its not an easy love at this point so, am over it. but really every brand boutique or not has way too many distortion type things, not just eqd!
Oh my that mix on the intro - bass sounds fantastic. 10:07 gimme another, longer, analog (?) delay at the end of the signal chain :). Aw yeah. Or maybe reverb…at the beginning? Great times and tones, Andy
Beautiful Gold/Copper-Burst Jazz Master. That wasn't a Baritone was it ? It's a Guitar that i'm increasingly interested (obsessed ) in. Bell like cleans ring true and bright. Always been a Les Paul Player, but @ 58 and achieving new heights as a Player, Playing clean increasingly more, and gravitating to Jazz and Etherial scapes , Hendrix makes more and more sensel. I didn't bond w/ my Strat. I thinks this might be a better fit. Which leads me to this, the cleaner the Signal & Tone, the better the affect of the Effect. I love FX. Warbles and Wobbles (Jah), Sitar, Mellotron, LFO's, Ring Mods, and every f***ed up twisted way to Sunday. I swore off FX forever, through the 80's & 90's and now I have trouble walking through my room (Cell) the walls closed in from pedal Racks and Rack FX Racks. Hell, i even picked up a Korg Synth. Death by Audio gets it. Chances are if you are here on this Channel, You get it. The question you have to ask yourself is will this FX inspire me, & continue to inspire me to Play, to Create, to forget about Time, get lost in the Effect and your Playing, look up and see that 3-4 Hours went by and it felt like 20 minutes. This pedal does what I, and probably many of you try to get with a Chorus,Flanger/Ph, & Delay. It has subtle Ring Mod flavor or overtones also. I like it. What i really know more than ever is that i want a Jazzmaster. Solid Playing AS ALWAYS PDX .Nice Post-Punk textures and progressions on that double cutaway Reverend. Love when you put the Jazz through the Space Bender w/ FUZZ !!!!!! That is exactly what my Jam is (smh). Throw one of my many WAHS on the front end and BAM ! Black Lights and Florescent Posters.......Don't forget the Nag Champa. \m/-
That pitch down strumming would be great for My Bloody Valentine style vibrato arm seasickness sounds. Put a ton of reverse verb & fuzz on that and you got a workable version of the "To Here Knows When" sound.
Good catch! I took it to Black Bobbin in Chicago and got their whole upgrade...Mastery bridge and Lollar JM pickups. It still has the S-1 switch so it's a vintage/modern beast now!
love the envelope mode but i feel like the could have executed this concept alot better... not to mention almost every sound with the lfo mode can be accomplished w the echo dream 2
Just sent this link to my girlfriend as she just asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I mentioned " I want a guitar pedal that can give me slow glassy modulation to dizzying ray gun effects "
It's like they took the idea right outta my head I've got a digitech multi play pedal that does some of the same kinda sounds but you can't control it very well so I was thinking about making a pedal just like this where the controls are more refined and fine tuned hell but mine would have had more knobs and a bunch of waveforms to choose from the closet I've gotten to getting the sounds in my head have been from messing with rack mount delays but you have to manually change settings to achieve the awesome sounds I'm definitely going to have to buy one of these pedals it's not exactly what I'm going for but a good jumping off point to finishing my idea up
Check out the old Ibanez DML 10/20. It pretty much does all of what this thing does with way more tweakability, like an old rackmount DDL. A lot of boutique pedal companies seem to be just repackaging stuff that was done years ago, but the older stuffi s much better/easier/more tweakable, and it might even be cheaper.
I worked too hard to have overdrive while having lots of clarity, articulation and intonation in my tone to be interested in this. But its always interesting to see someone demo the things the market keeps offering.
See I'm the same way (low gain klone, LP filter for higher gain tones, subtle reverb, vintage style delay, used to use a comp, only real fx I use are trem and vibe very subtley). You can get pretty subtle with this pedal if you want tbh. I use it for a very light flamging effect that you can only hear on the harmonics Or super subtle chorus or slapback. Do wish it had a mix knob tho
Went from being into shoegaze and soundscapes in hs to jazz, blues and rnb in my late 20s but after a few years of pretty basic guitar tones I wanted something that did weird stuff even if most of the sounds in it aren't really my thing. Also switches > knobs
The first rule of Death By Audio is that you must suffer inconvenience. The Reverberation Machine was like 2 knobs away from being incredible, but instead I just kinda had to make due with the noises it produced. Pretty interesting (dare I say ‘selfish’) design parameters.
@@pretty.noodles3540 not sure all of the differences from Reverberation Machince and their ROOMS Reverberator, but I’m totally in love with my ROOMS! 🤘
There’s technically a gain trem pot inside that can be adjusted, but that’s still tough to work with. Definitely would’ve been a plus if that control was on the face of the pedal. I’m sure it would be easy to mod, but still, would’ve been nice to have come with a mix knob out of the box
To be clear, I appreciate DbA's simplicity. I don't use a lot of expression pedals, and I'm burned out on mods that wound up having unintended consequences. I love my Reverberation Machine, Apocalypse, and Interstellar Overdriver Supreme. You step on a DbA pedal, it does a thing, and that thing is never subtle. Knob twiddling and pedal-gazing are as tedious to do as they are to watch. This is punk, and DbA understands jamming econo. I'd just like to have the option to play it straight and bonkers at the same time without having to own two amps, so that the modulation doesn't bury the music.
@@stephenbeyer ROOMS is definitely incredible, and I think Reverberation Machine is still a cool pedal. The main philosophical difference is that ROOMS gives the user a lot, lot, lot more freedom. Just to clarify I really think the RM is a great pedal, but you just play by it’s own rules quite a bit. A lot of DBA pedals are that way, and it’s really not a bad thing. They do one thing really, really well.
What do you mean? Fuzz war, apocalypse, reverberation machine, rooms, echo dream 2, germanium filter, evil filter, waveform destroyer and a ton of their other stuff seems perfectly capable of producing useful sounds.
