I took my son to see Nureyev dance "The Nut Cracker " at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. My young son was thrilled with the experience. It was Nureyev's amazing performance that sold him on ballet. One of a kind, Nureyev lives on in the hearts of those who saw him dance. Thank you for this wonderful video. ❤
Rudi died when I was in my first year of University. I didn't pay any notice then, being too involved with studies, etc. I was doing ballet when I was young and loved it, but as we lived in a small town there was nowhere to go even near me to study it. Being older now, as I watch him, I think of the dedication it takes to finely tune all those moves. It is a pleasure to watch him now. I nursed many people through AIDS and watched them die, and it is a tragedy he died from this horrid, ongoing disease which still ravages the world today. RIP - you are the greatest male ballet dancer of all time, and were taken too soon xxxx
How fun for you to see behind the scenes of all that hard work and excellence. Most people just think of ballet as a little light hearted dancing--but these dancers are athletes trianing their muscles for beautiful movement. It takes a lot of discipline and hard work to make it look so natural and effortless as Nureyev.
My dad was manager at the Paris Opera when Nureyev was director. My step mother was a ballerina and Nureyev loved her and my dad. My dad was always bringing me with him at the Opera. It was my second home. Nureyev was so impressive when he was giving classes. Just to be next to him you could feel his immense charisma. What a blessing for me to grow amongst him and some other incredible dancers of that period.

I was lucky enough to see him dance live also. I was about 15 and saw him at the convent garden opera house. I was mesmerized. After he sat in the ticket booth and people lined up to get his autograph. When it was my turn I politely and timidly asked him for his autograph. He smiled at me and scribbled on on my entrance ticket. To this day I don’t know why he smiled at me. Probably because I looked so scared. Or maybe because I didn’t just shove my price of paper at him.

Such grace AND talent! Noticeable is his incredible physical control. Each move is precise and deliberate and not once is he off balance in any way. His posture and carriage are unequalled by any other ballet dancer, female or male
Exactly! The muscular endurance also explains why he gets into the air somewhat slowly and that is an expression of one type of ballon. He didn’t have the explosive power to get into the air quickly like Baryshnikov but he shows so much detail in every movement.

I am so happy to have found these videos! Rudolph Nureyev was a true artist. He had everything: amazing power and height in his leaps, so light on his feet it was like a whisper when he landed and such musical timing not to mention best of all his sheer magnetism and presence. How grand Nureyev is how gifted... poise elegance integrity and a pure love for his profession SALUTE Nureyev 👏👏👏👏👏🙌
I was fortunate to see Nureyev dance a few years before his death. His leaps and power weren't as striking by that time, but he still had elegance and grace that one doesn't often see in a dancer.
He was the best because he worked harder than anyone else to develop his ability and because he was genius, far more than a trained body. i am so glad you included Spectre. He is the only dancer I have seen who “got it.” I saw him do it in his late 30s. By that time, others’ jump was bigger, but nobody else beats his magic.
Nureyev was the male ballet dancer of my adulthood. As a child, I adored Anton Dolin. I remember my mother telling me to watch for "the grace of a woman, and the strength of a man".
I am a 46 yr old female, and 4 years ago this beautiful man showed up as my spirit guide and showed me how to release my entire physical energy in one single explosion 💥💪

Such a beautiful man, extremely talented ballet dancer, so enchanting. To think of the struggles he endured when he was a child and what he overcome, to be one of the greatest dancers that has ever lived. Oh! How i wish I could have seen this divine man live. ❤
I did, once when I was almost 11. I had just had a major disappointment, AND we were moving (again). It was my consolation prize from my parents. He was absolutely amazing. Although Baryshnikov is better at leap and turns, no one could touch Nurev for technique, charisma, and characterisation.

Nureyev manifested the highest artistry. I regret never seeing him live but am grateful for the video archives of his work. Thank you for putting this together. My first ballet teacher studied with Pavlova and Nijinsky at the Imperial in St. Petersburg and was a ballet mistress after the Bolshevik debacle, with Diagliev. When I was in college (I'm a guy) I wanted to get closer to those lovely ballet dancers I saw moving so elegantly, with such upright posture. But, as a dude who is a life-long soccer player, and hard-rock music fan, with zero musical ability, including dancing, I was very, extremely intimidated. But, those amazing ballet bodies that I saw when they left the gym door open and the way those ladies moved.... ohmygod. So, I finally took a Intro to Ballet class. The ladies were so kind. And, as a soccer player; climber; cyclist; down-hill and snow skier; nothing was as hard as ballet: nothing. Ok, Hangliding.

I was privileged to see both Nuryev and Barishnikov at the Met as a young teen
Brava!!
In my teens walking through the city of wellington N.Z. A gentleman passed me walking in the opposite direction..we exchanged glances I recognised Rudolf Nureyev.... there was a comraderie ...years later i learn we share the same birthday pisces ♓ the gifted intuitive souls...
I saw Nureyev twice, once when he was much older. He completely outshone the younger performers with his skill and magic.
Nureyev and Plisetskaya both perfect actors. Everything in play: legs, hands, fingers, eyes and heart
So beautiful, graceful, his sense of music is wonderful. And when he bursts out on the stage with those magnificent leaps, it’s breathtaking.

I loved him and there will never be another like him.
Was lucky to see him and Dame Fontaine dance together, several of their many performances! What a delight! Unforgetable!
The male body doesn’t get much more beautiful, athletic, or graceful than Mr. Nureyev’s at his peak.
Sorry but Baryshnikov is unbeatable
Indimenticabile
His Prince Seigfreid is just perfection , Beautiful video of a great dancer , thank you .

He is amazing , he covers the stage in three precision jumps with effortless grace.
The one and only Rudolf, the King of Dance!, many thanks for sharing this beautiful video!
To uploader: Thanks for these clips. Rudi paid dearly for being legendary pioneering artist, breaking barriers & tradition. To truly appreciate his astounding artistry, one must partake basic ballet class for 1 yr during prime teen yrs. Then marvel how EASILY he excels performing beautiful gravity defying difficult formal classical choreography incl it’s emotions, captivating viewers, like hybrid 2 legged gazelle exotic hummingbird
Wow! After watching the movie "The White Crow," I was glad to find this compilation of some of his best performances.
What a treasure!! So much physical energy in his dance...so breath taking...

The height he achieved was unbelievable! I don't recall anybody else doing that.
My Dad & I saw Margot & R 1st appearance in NYC after his defection- it was enthralling & they were genuinely fond of each other- I saw perfect Russian arms unrivaled to this day ❤❤
The others are dancers, he was the artist.
Quel bonheur d'avoir pu le voir danser. Un merveilleux souvenir.
For me, R.Nureyev Is the best ballet dancer of all times. Number ONE.

I was so fortunate, as a child in Canada, to know her in the 1960's and to study ballet and music from a Russian trained Russian. The best of the best: Russians own the ballet.
💕 I also had a line of teachers from Pavlova. Russian ballet, training and performance, is the greatest! When I get in these fits watching dance online....
E' VERO!!!!!! LA DANZA E' RUSSIA E BASTA, I BALLERINI RUSSI SONO SUPREMI❤❤❤❤❤❤

Oh dear. What a beautiful man.
Exquisite pleasure to view Rudy and Margot in Romeo and Juliet and that was Heaven on Earth!!! ToDay the dancers are technically higher than they were however have not captured the depth of emotional qualities they evoked!!! Am happy content to have witnessed them live.
When he grabs her skirt and smells it, my heart burst. The acting in this was amazing. He was Romeo and she manifested a teenage Juliet despite her age.
Today, it is tricks and self-indulgence. It is grotesque now...but back then, with these two especially, it was about the ART.
I also saw Nureyev and Fontaine in Romeo and Juliet in Los Angeles and it was one of the finest performances I’ve ever seen. The others were Fracci and Bruhn in La Sylphide, Barisnikov and Kirkland in Gisele, Alicia Markarova in Swan Lake, and Nureyev in Don Q.
Stunning. Breathtaking. The best prince Desire of ballet story.
I was in the audience the night he got a standing ovation in the middle of the third act of Sleeping Beauty for his variation. It was stunning. That was 1976, so he was 38.

Absolutely amazing. Strength, vitality, expression and athletic artistry. I actually had no idea of his age! To find out he was born 1938 blew my mind. Died in 1993 from AIDS complications. Really struck me. But I can watch his genius in 2024 on UA-cam.
