  • Kemi Badenoch has made it clear she wants to clamp down on migration to the UK, claiming that many use Britain as “a sponge”.
The former favourite for the Tory leadership contest has seen her challenge drop off in recent days, with ex-immigration minister Robert Jenrick appearing to be in the driving seat during the Tory conference in Birmingham.
Ms Badenoch used an interview on the Today program to take a tough stance on migration.
She said: “We need to make sure that when people are coming to this country they are people who are coming to contribute and who want the success of our country.
“If you want to stay here we live in an age where you need to be very committed. We are not a dormitory, we are not a sponge.

I disagree with you TOPE . I trained as a nurse and worked in the private health sector in Nigeria. It was slavery. Touching people’s lives should also be rewarded. It broke my heart to travel to UK. Worked as Health care assistant for a year whilst waiting to get my license. Wiped bottoms and wounds in Nigeria for peanuts but did it in UK for a good living wage. Today I am a senior midwifery lecturer with my Bsc , Masters and PhD fully paid by the NHS. Today I can care for my family by supporting my husband comfortably with real estate in Nigeria Uk and US. Sorry as long as Nigeria doesn’t care we will continue to wipe bottom to get to the top. Our eyes are open.

      Totally agreed 👍
      I like Yk's view.
If wiping bottoms pays well in nigeria, nobody will go all the way to the UK for that. There's no dignity in some labors in nigeria as it is so many European countries. Let's just tell ourselves the truth

In the US, nigerian immigrants are the highest educated people. Responding to the lady whose husband is a doctor, good for you. Everyone is not as lucky as you are, some people really have to work to get bye because they sponsored themselves.

In Nigeria, nurses duties include wiping bums that care workers do here . Kemi stigmatising social care workers who bum wipe bums is laughable. In the west, there is dignity of labour . In the 70th Nurses were looked down on by so many but, today they have become highly respected . Kemi has just reflected her Nigeria DNA ,where people are disrespected beacuse of their choice of job. Moreover, it not only Nigerians that are in social care, Indians,Europeans and other nationalities have high number of their population in care
With that statement she has downgraded herself for the contest. There are British that also care given. I'm sure Kemi in her old age will not have access to care giver for support. There are British who are road sweeper and Estate cleaners. What matter in the west is what can pay your bills . Kemi has justified the attitude and behaviour civil servants who worked with her accused her of. They said ,she lacks respect and with high level of arrogance. Her statement is true display of arrogance.

I agree with your point. Often, the ladies on The View seem to comment without fully educating themselves on the facts. Additionally, Kemi, like many migrants who rise to positions of power, appears to look down on other migrants, trying to limit opportunities for others to come to the UK. This is similar to what others, such as Priti Patel and others, have done-they condemn and demonize migrants once they’ve secured their own status, which is quite troubling.

Even nurses in the UK wipe bottom as well. As long as you are doing a decent job, nobody should look down on anybody.

Let's be honest, there's no dignity in labor in some jobs in Nigeria. Just look at how a nigerian called caregiver job "bottom wipe". Millions of Nigerians are ready and willing to relicate to the Uk , USA or Canada to be caregivers. Just so you know. Since the condition in nigeria is getting worse everyday. When you go any country as an immigrant ,you have start from somewhere.
