- “As soon as someone’s dead you have to beatify them. And I think we should try to avoid doing that and hold the truth, the whole person.”
Reacting to Liam Payne’s death is “complicated” because of recent allegations about his behaviour, says author Rebecca Reid, while Andrew Billen says it's indicative of how difficult it is for celebrities who shoot to worldwide fame at a young age.

Drugs causes mental issues so instead of just focusing on mental health, address the root of the problem which are drugs
That is sometimes true. And sometimes drug addiction can be a result of emotional problems.
@@terryleong7 I'm mentally ill and have never done drugs. So shut your yap ffs
It's not so clear cut: there are instances in which drugs are used to cope with mental health.
Nah- Drugs are nearly always a SYMPTOM of mental health issues.
Addiction is the problem!
I'm old enough to remember a dozen or so rock/popstars dying: Jimi, Janet Joplin, Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, Marc Bolan, Elvis, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Bon Scott, Freddy Mercury, Kurt Cobain, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston. The list is sadly long.
Drug and alcohol addiction can cause mental health problems ...
Also... mental health problems can lead to alcohol and drug addiction
He was suffering from mental health problems, he wasn't just taking drugs and using alcohol, he was self medicating to dumb his pain
What pain?
I think the drugs and alcohol came earlier than that. He said in an interview that all the down time between concerts when he was with one direction ... was spent in the hotel room and all the alcohol they could drink. He said that's when his alcohol problem started.
@@aleksandrac9335 payne
It's the fame culture. It just socks them in, drugs and alcohol constantly around. Once addicted it's incredibly hard to overcome it. The poor bloke lost his real self, who he was. An hour before he died its reported his record company ditched him.
5:20 So because he had destructive behaviours, which clearly were mental issues, he deserved to commit suicide? Or he deserves to be judged? What is she exactly implying? My God, the lack of compassion and empathy is mindblowing. He was a young man who took his own life and could not bear the pressure. The media, the industry and the crazy fans do this to a person. On top of that, at only 23, when he was probably trying to learn how to navigate the sudden fame and deal with all the pressure, Ms Cheryl decided to play teenager, and instead of being a grown-up woman, she went into putting an additional pressure, hey kid, be a father now. Rest in peace, Liam
Youre in a bit of a rush to call it suicide ---he was off his head and probably didnt have a clue what he was doing
@@billrowell2919 You are right. I shouldn't speculate.
You’re gonna blame a woman who got pregnant by him and had the baby? Sorry, but how he handles stress isn’t her responsibility. Have unprotected sex, prepare for the possibility of unplanned pregnancy.
Most people who commit suicide are not in their right mind one way or another. Many men die from suicide around 30 years old for one reason or another. Unfortunately I know 7 young men alone. They weren’t famous and many had money and a life but it happens. Partying too much or getting themselves into things by accident that they can’t cope with and see nowhere out. It’s a shame but men won’t or don’t want to ask for help.
Please please stop
this destructive and wicked commentary. He was a boy when he was swept to fame and navigating the world on his own.
People are incredibly crass
Rest in peace Liam and God be with you
Oh come on, he was troubled and young. He wasn't a bad person.
So are many people but the behaviour is excused because payne was rich.
But should he be idolised?
Allegedly Sending d*ck pics to fans is not acceptable…
@@alansmith4748 noone should be idolised.
No he wasn’t a bad person but he was starting to do bad things. Robert Downey Jr was/is notorious for his destructive drug addicted behavior but he got help and turned his life around but if he died today those terrible things he did before sobriety would still exist.
I remember when kurt cobain died i got in from a club dancing to his music at 2 am and my mum was sat reading teletext and she broke the news. Very atrange to remember before social media appeared
Two things can definitely be true at the same time.
Too many young people are so troubled with mental health issues. Please be kind RIEP Liam 💔🙏😢😢
Apparently he was worth 70 million quid cant begin to imagine being that rich
I wouldn't say that drugs cause the mental issues but I think that was a big factor Liam Payne's was definitely going through something traumatic and it broke him to the point that he feel that he had to take his own life 😭😭😭🙏🏻🙏🏻 he will be forever missed I'm praying for the family and his little boy that he left behind RIP Liam baby 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Poor boy - no. It is only sad and tragic, you dont have s need to bring hus negative personality traits into account. 31 years old with bad ingluences every where, access to too much, too many substances, too much scrutiny, too much pressure. Those behaviours are understandable. He could have gotten better, if it werent for the public scrutiny. He is at peace now, what a society we live in.
You did not just compare Liam Payne to Princess Diana
3rd floor? wasnt suicide then anyone would go up much higher to jump not 30 foot drop
he was off his head on drugs and alcohol. It was accidental. He was screaming and shouting before. The hotel staff called 911. His drug use and aggressive behaviour has been reported before.
kurt Cobain dying wasn't in the news? what is this melt on about?
She's right. It's not the media's job to encourage ghoulish interests with such photos, and as well, those whom anyone loved but has now passed, still deserve that parting physical dignity of no such photos of their final moment as life transitions. It's quite another thing, to allow photos of the holocaust, or the Balkans, or Gaza...as in those instances, the photos prove there were then, and today, malicious forces to be confronted, and peoples still alive who needed, or need, saving. Quite a different reason, to ever provide such photos.
We share the same year 1993 he is in August I'm in June I'm 31 as well
It’s so sad. It reminds me of Mike Brant. Rest In Peace Liam. 😢
Is she using the angry baby filter?!
🤣
😂😂😂
Here we go again. Nicola Bulley, Jay slater, now him. When are the media going to learn to just back off. As for the woman saying he was “Troubled” last I knew drug and alcohol addiction was an illness, not “troubled”
That's nonsense. Drug and alcohol addictions are the very definition of troubled! We need to stop downplaying the destructive nature of addiction just because we want people to feel better.
@@msj9097 Absolutely he was making poor (life) choices
He was a troubled oerson - at this point in his life, not in total.
Because every nistake they make id broadcast 💔
He liked the Argentinian drugs too much, so he went mad 😡…. 😅
Super full moon strikes again 🐺
When we find out the depth of his depravity, people will cease to care and move on.
How is this comment not deleted
Because fans are coming out now saying he sent inappropriate photos to them & his ex fiancé has exposed his behaviour…his album & tour was shelved & he’d sacked his manager…
Life was about to become very embarrassing for him …
It was his choice
even if i say so myself, it's possible that i gave the idea of x factor to chris moyles/the bbc?
And Janis Joplin
My comment deleted interesting plus a spam probe on my Twitter account from Dallas !?
I don't like that Rebecca women
Looks like one direction fans hopes of seeing them live have just gone out of the window.
What’s worse is that the hopes of his 7 yr old son of seeing him again just went out the window.
@@selecttravelvacations7472 ouch 😆 you win
So many celebs have lost there lives to drink and drugs,it is very sad they have fame money lovely homes and cars, you can keep fame for me 🥲
