    You keep mentioning HP ratings--new 24 Tacoma is 278 not over 300. Not sure why the hate for the Honda V6--it is a smooth competent engine that will probably run for a very long time. Honda doesn't have a 65k version of the Ridgeline with 350 HP and dedicated off road version but how many people EVER take their truck off road? Just leased my second Ridgeline. It is the perfect truck for me I don't tow or haul huge amounts, but it is comfortable EVERY day. Great road trip vehicle. The trunk in bed is amazing and dual tailgate makes loading super easy. Congrats on the Ranger Raptor seems to be a great truck and a "good value" , but we all can't afford one nor do we need it.

      Umm I take my TRD Pro off-road to Rush, location X, Moab and my JL Rubicon. I buy off-road trims to GO OFF-ROAD. This ridge line trim is as useful as an inflatable dart board. People only buy them because they think it makes them cool or “look at me I drive a rugged vehicle”, ridiculous.

    As a Ridgeline owner, you should do the off-road test with the transmission in Sport mode. In regular, the transmission starts out in 2nd gear. In sport mode, it starts in true 1st gear. The true first gear is much lower ratio and i use that when i am in situations where i need to go as slow as possible. I think this would make it easier for you to go slow. Then if needed, i will use the paddle shifter to select first gear. Once you use the paddle shifter in sport mode, it switches to Sequential mode and will only shift via the paddles. This would allow you to stay in 1st gear.

    I'm not an expert on 4WD, but I believe Honda designed this vehicle for those who are no longer doing serious off-road. My first 4WD was my Titan when it first came out. Now that I'm older. I asked myself, "Do I need all that hype technology for a 4WD?" As you get older, you do less off-road. So, I believe Honda is targeting those that still want the feeling of off-road and comfort. I call it soft off-road for senior citizens. Lol. So, I don't think Honda is behind. I believe they are marketing those, that are having problems letting go the off-road, that still want that feeling of off-road with comfort. I hope I'm making sense. That's my opinion.

    I never liked the first gen ridgeline but when It was redesigned for 2017, I really appreciated where they were going with it. No, it's not as capable as a body on frame truck. I instead look at as a car with a bed that can tow. Suddenly it feels incredibly capable for what it is. The ridgeline is a good mix of what everyone needs. The ford version (maverick) is proof that a car with a bed is all that most people need. All that said, honda missed the mark on the trials port. I expected a lot more. Even the HPD package looks more offroad ready

    I wish everyone would stop focusing on the off-road capabilities of the Ridgeline it’s not made for off-road it’s made for on road comfort and getting through snowy roads.
    The Tacoma is 100x better off-road than the Ridgeline and the Ridgeline is 100x better on road.

    Well, the darn thing plodded right through the off-road course despite its lower clearance. Just goes to show that the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts.
    I've had my 2021 base Sport trim for nearly 3 years and can't find much about to complain. It's perfect for a boring suburbanite like me. I realized after many years that trucks are garbage to drive except for long highway runs, so I found that a crossover with a bed is a much more pleasant experience. My wife even likes driving it, which probably proves it isn't a real truck.

    I still don't understand why Honda doesn't make a V8 engine. They consistently make such good inline 4 cylinder engines that it just seems logical to stick two of them together. Obviously that would require a new block, but it could share pistons, one cylinder head, and all of the valve train parts with the 4 cylinder it was based on. For example, you could have a K-series based 4.0l, 4.6l, or 4.8l V8 that could be either naturally aspirated or turbocharged. Or you could base a V8 off of the new 1.5l turbo engine that's in the Civic, which would get you a 3.0l twin-turbocharged V8 with 350+ horsepower that would probably sip fuel while cruising. The Ridgeline with a small V8 like that would be kind of amazing.

    The major positive for the Honda…reliability, which translates to fewer visits to mechanic than required for the competition (including the new 2024 Tacoma). A Ridgeline owner will still have use of their vehicle when the others are at the shop.
    My ownership horizon is 200k. Chevy, Ford,the vaunted Tacoma, and perhaps the Nissan will visit the mechanic many times during that ownership period. The Ridgeline? Not nearly.

    I wonder why they didn't lift it a bit for the trailsport ridgeline like they did for the Passport trailsport, which was like 0.5" higher. Not a lot but at least something. Ground clearance ratings also seem misleading sometimes. My new X1 M35 has a stated 8.1" ground clearance, but if you were to park it next to a ridgeline (or passport.. my prior vehicle), the Honda would look like it had dramatically more ground clearance. I wish there was some some more standardization of ground clearance measurements and expectations to make it easier to compare.

    That is very impressive performance to a Ridgeline at the "Trail". Sure for 4WD folks that's just a dirt road. But you have to understand Ridgeline/ Passport/Pilot/MDX these things rely on clutches in center and rear diff. You put more power its going to cook the clutches. Engine is build for fuel economy switching between 3cyl and 6cyl (older systems used 3,4 & 6 mode). That's too much work for the engine as well. Been a direction injection only it definitely need some high speed driving to minimize carbon build up, not very slow speed or short drive friendly. Not having a frame its not expected to have all that stress on the body. For example on a BOF vehicle like 4Runner / Tacoma/ Wrangler/F150 you don't care opening the door when the vehicle is at a tricky spot vs the on these vehicles door is part of the strength of the structure. So to my eyes this is very impressive and more than what is expected from a car.

    • @HarryKuloh
      @HarryKuloh 24 дні тому

      Oriented for economy, but ironic thst the fuel economiy is avsolute sh1te.

    • @LionRunner
      @LionRunner 23 дні тому

      @@HarryKuloh I hope you have not comparing to new V8s with cylinder deactivation and active fuel management. The V8s with non of that fuel tech you probably looking at around 12/13mpg for (5L ish) and even less with bigger ones I bet. If I don't miss my years vehicles like 2009 Pilot would have additional 4cyl mode. So when 3cyl is not enough you can run on 4cyl without switching to full 6cyl. 2016+ (if I'm not mistaken) when 3cyl is not enough they switch to full 6 cyl. Again mpg would be subjective until tested same conditions.

    a "TRAILsport" that only has "7 inches" of ground clearance And essentially no bash/skid plates, 18" wheels instead of 16" wheels. So tires with "not quite enough meat to them." No "Proper full size spare" in a "$40.000" ride? 😲 NO excuse for that on a All wheel drive vehicle. Especially not a "TRAIL" Vehicle. No one should "Settle" for that. Is there at least Space for a proper spare?
    I want to like this ride and I don't mind the Uni-body construction, (as long is it does Not rattle/ flex apart going down nasty dirt roads) but...This in not a "Trailsport" this is a MALLsports vehicle. 😕 Is the under bed trunk made of some kind of "whipped aerated plastic /foam for insulation to be use as a "ice chest"? or does the ice instantly start melting from the "136 degree" road heat and engine/exhaust heat? "Loving" those 2 cushy built in "seating spots" on the tailgate! 😅😉
    At least it has tires that are Not just "pure street" tires "made for a Oldsmobile or toyota camry, that "most 4x4 and ALL WHEEL DRIVE vehicles have "Usually" been coming with.
    "Funny" that the Passport came out as just "their lame" trail ride. Since it originally was an actually Good 4x4 ISUZU Rodeo and the pilot always seemed to be the even "more Minivan ride" body style to Me. No Excuse for it not having a front camera! But at least I did not see the wheels in the air "endlessly and Rapidly spinning" and "sucking out power" like I do on too many "pure brake vectoring systems." What would actually be pretty cool "just as it is now" but with a minivan body slapped on to it. That would be a Useful Mini Van! :-) OK ad another inch ground clearance on to it even for a van. ;-) Add 3 inches ground clearance for the TRAIL sport truck version. 😁 OK OK. 2.5" would be good. ;-) AND it Needs real, proper coverage Bash Plates!
    Unfortunately... NOT worth "$40K"

    The Trailsport really isn't the one to get unless you really like the badging. The RTL gets you anything you could need in one of these. I had a 2017 and currently drive a 2023. The '17 was near perfect, but the transmission shift quality started to noticeably degrade after 100k miles and I got spooked. So I traded for the 2023. It's more of the same, mostly. More refined in some aspects like the ride and sound insulation. But the radio is garbage (laggy, unresponsive and check out the savagegeese review for an explanation for how they butcher the sound quality) and the push-button shifter is an affront to God. But overall it's still the same incredibly useful, efficient, cleverly designed truck. I am bummed they got rid of the captains chairs and the sliding lid center console in the '24s. Looking forward to the refresh with the Pilot's running gear.

Seems all makers have 1 or 2 in their lineup like this. not sure what causes it if its the number sold per year or resources, or they are waiting to see what competitors do or they are focused on a plan to keep their best selling at top.

    The Ridgeline is meant for Honda owners and is just enough truck for the weekend warrior that makes trips to Lowe’s or Home Depot for mulch or a load of gravel.
    If you want to do light off roading there are tons of videos adding a Trux 1/2 “ or a 1” leveling kit that does not interfere with the suspension or the Honda sensing .
    I saw one up close….really looks great when you lift the front end up that 1/2 -1”. The “ snow plow” look goes away and looks “beefy.”
    I still would not buy any truck right now with the gas prices still going up. At least wait until 2025. Hopefully life will be better overall🙏🤞
    As for the engine….I applaud Honda for keeping their bullet proof NA V6! New Tacos are all a 4 cyl turbo. Is that what a Taco owner really wants….not to mention being made in Mexico?? There goes the long term reliability.
