I like that you split this from the review. Someone would find this super useful then maybe discover you other content and other channel. I will still watch both.
Thank you! I just got a used Powermatic version of this jointer and decided to change the cutter head. This video is the most concise and helpful one that I've watched on how to do this!
I've just finished installing the Luxcut Helical head in my Ridgid. Outstanding video! Thanks for the assistance. The test of the jointer after installation proved to be quieter, and a smoother feel on my hand as I held the push blocks. Also there was a noticeable difference in the amount of saw dust that didn't make it to the dust collection system. Moreover the dust collection port didn't get plugged up. OUTSTANDING VIDEO!
Thanks. Because of your video, I ordered the new cutter head. You inspired me to tackle my own 20 yr old Ridgid jointer. I probably wouldn't have attempted otherwise.
Thanks Robert. I just installed the Lux cutter head on my JET JJ-6CSX. Sure enough, it went exactly the same as in the video. Including having to take an additional link out of the new belt and re-adjusting the outfeed and infeed tables. The video made all of the step understandable and do-able. Thanks again. Now, on to the Lux cutter head for the Dewalt 735.
Hey, Robert - a huge THANK YOU to you for making this video! I have an old, cheap Delta 6" jointer that I've always hated because the cut quality was crap. I barely used it and when I did, I was always frustrated. I finally have enough money to get a Lux Cut and today I installed it with help from your video. Mine is a cheaper Delta version of yours so I'm glad you pointed out how many of them are truly the same. The video was exactly what I need (plus it was humorous and entertaining). I got it installed and now my jointer cuts so well. I honestly can't believe it is the same machine. THANK YOU for doing this and sharing it with all of us. It is very much appreciated!
Following your video I was able to remove my cutter head in less than 30 minutes. A lot of that time was looking for a 14 mm open end wrench. Can't wait for the new Lux cutter head to get here.
Nice writeup, I just did the same upgrade on the same jointer using a Shelix cutter head from Bryd. Worked great. Just an FYI there are two different cutterhead diameters on the Ridged jointers you can read about that on the Bryd website.
You should team up with Project Farm. You do installations, he does product testing. Find out which product is the best and then demonstrate how to install and use it!
I don't have a jointer or planer so I watch for the sarcasm that Robert brings each video. Very entertaining. However, still a way to go until your each Freddy Tavarish's level of sarcasm.
For those finding this now, I did this exact same upgrade and it’s definitely worth it. One thing you will almost certainly have to do is adjust the outfeed table height. With the new cutter head, the outfeed height was too high and it takes some time to adjust it and get it exactly right. Should never have to do it again. Having said that, it’s a completely different experience using this jointer now. I also bought the jointer on sale, but had to buy my own cutter head. 😭
I have honestly never come in contact with a jointer in the real world, I very likely will not for a long time, and I honestly didn’t even know what one looked like before today. And yet I watch anyway.
I'm not even a tree botherer, and I still found this interesting. I'm thinking it might be usefull to anyone planning the belt upgrade if you mention the brand and how many links it needed.
Great video...question...when installing the new cutter head, when you go to secure the head with the two bottom bolts, you have considerable play left and right. Should you seat the cutter head all the way to the fence side and then tighten the bolts or should you center the head as best you can? I should have noticed where this was before I removed the old cutter head. The Rigid instructions don't tell tell you.
Love you vid but Help… my Shelix cutter head assembly rides higher than my old one. I tried to correct the in feed and out feed tables but it may not be the right way to do it. Is there a way to lower the Shelix cutter head down?
Curious that you are the link belt as an upgrade. I've only ever seen them as either a bodge for when you can't find the correct belt or, in the case of my lathe, for when you've got the pulley in the middle of the shaft and can't practically fit a non linked belt.
Are you going to calibrate the cutter head to bring it into level? After replacement it can be several thousandths out from one side of the cutter head to the other. Probably within about 2 thousandths is good enough for most work.
I could be wrong, but I think the link belt is installed backwards. It should be so that all the link parts are in trailing mode so they don’t catch air.
Need your help. I have a delta jt360 jointer Before I take a leap on getting a luxcut, I need to find jack lift screws/nut for blades on cutter head. Tried all the usual places. Seems these screws don't exist anymore. I went thru your list of compatible jointers and nobody has these screws. They are #-10-32 conical at tip, not dimpled. Supposedly i can still get the nut(with the ledge on it, but delta says obsolete). These other sources will take your money with 2-3 week lead time and eventually will say obsolete, and tuff getting your money back. So, can you help an old guy on fixed income find these jack lift nut / screws? Ebay has 2 but the vendor is the same people that takes your money and finally say it is obsolete . If these jointers were built by 2 companies in China, the cutter heads must be the same and therefore nut/screw should be the same. Can't afford luxcut. Please see if you can come up with where I can get them. Thank you for your concern. Bruce
Oh I want a helical cutterhead on my 6" jointer! But I think it's 50 or 60 years old, so likely not made in that factory in Taiwan! LOL. It's an old AMT. What do you think? Would one of these beautiful helical heads fit in there?
ok MISTER MAGICAL WIZARD, how did you work your MAGIC at getting that DARN bolt, next to the pully, back in the hole because you didn't show your MAGICAL works on THE VIDEO. Mine keeps goin down the shoot and onto the floor. I have tried everything short of taking it off the stand.
There is a law in physics that says if you drop a small part, it will always fall and/or roll into the nearest inaccessible place before coming to rest.
Dude I love your videos, but please in your description of your videos make sure you post actual links to the web pages. As us people on mobile are poor peasants that require coddling.
Houston we have a problem...my 1930s wadkin 6 inch jointer isn't on the list 😒 😑 😕 bloody typical and inconsiderate to say the very least 🙄 😒. As always 💯%... 👍🇬🇧.
Robert, as someone who has experience repairing those Milwaukee ratchets, don't use them as a normal ratchet. If you need it tighter than the battery can deliver, switch wrenches
NEVER believe anyone who tells you "This item that is hundreds of dollars less is the same exact thing as this other item costing hundreds more" Different motors, different tooling. Best castings (for cast parts) go to the most expensive line. Lower quality metals etc. A production line making a thing like this is going to consume steel to stamp the parts from. Higher quality and probably thicker steel is used for the expensive brands while low quality steel also thinner is used for the cheap brands.

This guy should have 1M subs, criminally underrated. Great Job!
Perfect! No music no extras, just the straight goods, just what busy folks need. Sub and like for you today. Thanks for sharing
Broken foot, bolt on floor, this is the good stuff! Excellent.
3:10 Congratulations for the one-piece tape pull Robert! Quite the nice job.

Showing off cinematography bona fides with these 2 episodes.

I don't have a jointer, yet I've always been curious what drive mechanism they use so... thanks for the video, it's still awesome :-)
I don't have a workshop or power tools but I always enjoy your videos.
Was so happy to see two videos in the same day.
This video was a huge help. I have an older model Rigid jointer (JP06000) and the steps were identical.
"And yes you can do that fun thing now."
I see that you have your finger firmly on the pulse of what your audience is interested in.
Just watched both your videos even though I don't know what a joiner does and don't have one, just find your presentation stile so entertaining.
Following your video I was able to remove my cutter head in less than 30 minutes. A lot of that time was looking for a 14 mm open end wrench. Can't wait for the new Lux cutter head to get here.
I just did this exact upgrade to my Rigid with a Lux head, based only on this video. Worked like a charm. Thank you so much!
I only watch this video because I love watching your videos!
Thank you! That was the best explained video I’ve seen on this subject.

man your camera quality has gone to the moon. always love these bonus videos too
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.

Thanks Robert, now I have to explain to my wife why I NEED to buy a Lux Cut head
Then after that comes the talk about the jointer to go with it
Thanks, as I am getting ready to buy another jointer this is certainly worth doing. Great info.
For those finding this now, I did this exact same upgrade and it’s definitely worth it.

🙏🙏😎👍👍 Thank you very much. I received my Lux cutter head and am off to take care of business!!
Your videos are very entertaining. Keep'em coming!
Robert, Thanks for this video! I was able to change mine out in less than an hour.
I'm not even a tree botherer, and I still found this interesting.
I'm thinking it might be usefull to anyone planning the belt upgrade if you mention the brand and how many links it needed.
Good video….especially liked the trial and error at the end until it was right.
You've made a video about upgrading a tool I don't have and will probably never use, entertaining. Please only use this power for good.
Great video...question...when installing the new cutter head, when you go to secure the head with the two bottom bolts, you have considerable play left and right. Yes!!! Time to enjoy some entertainment and education!
Great video. Two questions: 1 How did you adjust your outfeed table? 2. How long did the installation take?

What size 3 fingered puller did you use? I see they come in multiple sizes.
Even a tutorial is funny in your hands.

Which link belt did you buy?
Do you still like your jointer? I am looking for one, but I cannot decide. I don’t have a lot of money nor space
Great video! Where did you purchase the link belt? Thank you.

Yes, Very helpful and thanks!
How did you get the bolt back in that falls down the dust shoot?

Can you give me a part number for the cutter head and the link belt
great vid!

How do you find the factory and what tools are made there?
It's funny how bolts, nuts and screws disappear down holes, sometimes they come out, but only sometimes... :P
There is a law in physics that says if you drop a small part, it will always fall and/or roll into the nearest inaccessible place before coming to rest.
i've never heard of any of the brands you listed in the description
Now I know what a jointer is! Kind of.
I didn’t see any link to the other video in the video
what link belt is that?
The link belt won't last and can be noisy. A cog-type V-belt will reduce vibration and last longer than either the original V-belt or the link belt.
I do wish there was a little more humor to this. Still I love these videos.
I would suggest anyone thinking of buying from Grizzly may want to look up the complaints under the BBB. Seems they aren't the company they once were.
You da man!
What? no Ryobi tools?
Dude I love your videos, but please in your description of your videos make sure you post actual links to the web pages. As us people on mobile are poor peasants that require coddling.
“It still sounded weird” lol

Do you have a PayPal account? I don't do Patreon.
Ooh a new Milwaukee ratchet to replace the Ryobi. Don't break this one. Well don't break it too soon.
Robert, as someone who has experience repairing those Milwaukee ratchets, don't use them as a normal ratchet. If you need it tighter than the battery can deliver, switch wrenches
I feel like I've seen this.
And there is me, thinking a link belt is only for temporary replacing belts..
Link belts are a wonderful addition to many shop tools to reduce vibration. And you only need a few spare links to fix any belt in the shop
Linked belt.... who knew?
