Many critics and atheists have used this refutation against the idea that morality is dependent upon God. Oddly, Socrates was a theist. Neverthelss, many use this "dilemma" as an argument. However, Dr. William Lane Craig shows that the Euthyphro Dilemma suffers from a false dichotomy.
