  • Nate Ford is a native San Franciscan who grew up in the Western Addition and graduated from George Washington High School. Nate lettered in basketball for 3 years. Nate attended CCSF for 1 year before deciding to enter the workforce.
In 1990 Nate was appointed the Athletic Director of the San Francisco Boys & Girls Club Ernest Ingold Clubhouse. Nate would go on and serve in that position for 18 years. In those 18 years, Nate oversaw all the athletics for Ernest Ingold including baseball, flag football, indoor soccer, volleyball, track & field, and his most beloved sport, basketball.
One of Nate's best accomplishments was establishing the Pee Wee Basketball Program and the SF Rebels Basketball Program.
The Pee Wee program started off with just 4 coed teams’ ages 6-10 years old that played each other on Saturdays with each team having a volunteer coach. Today that program has grown to 30 teams separated into four different divisions and has expanded the age range to 6 to 13 years old. The concept has remained the same but an educational component has been added in which all participants must maintain a 2.5 GPA. Additionally, any child that is between a 2.0 thru 2.5 range receives free tutoring.
The SF Rebels is a traveling basketball program that started out with one team. The Rebels, which has teams for boys ages 9u- Varsity and girls 6th, 7th, and Varsity is more of an advanced basketball program that travels around locally and nationally to compete against the nation’s best. It also has an academic
component that requires its players to have a 2.5 GPA. The program is also run by volunteers who coach the kids and travel with them around the state and country.
The Rebels also provides assistance in getting kids into private high schools around San Francisco to this date the Rebels has sent over 200 kids to private schools on financial aid. Kids also have access to tutoring and courses on SAT and ACT classes.
The Rebels have also sent over 60 kids to go on and play basketball on the college level. The Rebels are also fortunate to have 3 professional players, 2 current NFL and 1 WNBA player.
In 2008, Nate was named the Citywide Sports Director overseeing the entire Athletic Program for all 9 Clubhouses in San Francisco.
In 2020, Nate transitioned from the Boys and Girls Club and moved out to the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department in the Community Development Department and has spearheaded the newly formed Requity Department providing equitable access to programs and activities to undeserved, foster, and homeless youth in San Francisco.
Nate has expanded the Rebels program which now includes life coaching, Academic Case Management, Entrepreneurship, and Financial Literacy classes, He has co-founded a College recruitment academy that focuses on getting underserved kids access to better exposure camps and combines to help them pursue their dreams of playing sports on the college level.
Nate over the years has served on many advisory boards and has garnered several community service awards. In addition, Nate continues to advocate for ALL youth in San Francisco.
