The hunter and warden that saved that buck gave me a new respect for hunters. You can tell they really love the animals and have a deep respect/regard for them.

If I was going hunting in Montana I might hire a guide to take care of the regulations and talk to the warden so I could enjoy the trip.

I've seen mulies staggering around like that, and there's a disease that causes it. It would be one thing if it was doing it when it was still wet, but once it dried off it was still just as infirm as it was before. The disease is a close relative to mad cow disease, and once they have it, there's no recovering from it. Fortunately, unlike mad cow, it's not transmissible to humans, so you won't get it if you eat the meat. In the later stages of it, the dear will go down, and though it will be able to flail its legs about, it won't be able to get up, even with help. Once they're down, they will stop drinking and eating even if food and water are placed right next to them. The last stages of it depend on whether the prion attacked their spinal cord, their brain, or both. If it's just in the cord, it will be a prolonged death of starvation. If it's in their brain, you will see their eyes roll up in their head, and they will start frothing at the mouth, while also making uncontrolled bleating sounds at regular intervals. If they have it in the brain, death usually comes quicker as the prion works into the brain stem and shuts down heart and breathing signals from the brain. Either way, this isn't a death that you'd wish on your worst enemy. It can attack both mule and white tail dear, but is rarely seen in elk or moose. There are other things which can cause similar symptoms, such as brain worms, and chronic wasting disease. Chronic wasting disease will be more obvious though, because the deer will be emaciated, and the coat will often be more shabby also. It is also possible that the dear might have had one of the constellation of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Diseases. In the last stages of this disease they dear will often go to the edge of a body of water and stay there until they die. This constellation of viral diseases is often called bluetongue because it often (but not always) causes the deer's tongue to swell and hang out. In some cases, the deer will bleed rectally, with or without the swelling of the tongue. The disease is caused by tiny flying gnats and/or midges which bite the deer and give it the disease. It takes a few weeks to develop, so you'll usually see the disease crop up in late summer or early fall. If the weather has been particularly dry and there have been fewer places for the deer to water, as well as fewer places for the midges to be, there will often be a spike in cases. A spike in cases can also occur when deer numbers become too dense, at which point there can be really big die-offs with a lot of deer carcases found laying next to sources of water, or just out in the field. After a population has been decimated by Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease it can take many years for numbers to rebound. That's why it is important to follow game management rules and limits. If a population has been decimated by the disease, then you want to give it a chance to come back, but by the same token, if there are too many deer in an area, special seasons may be opened to help thin the heard a little more, and prevent a future outbreak. I can remember several times when the season was closed at one end of our state, but you could take two of any sex at the other end of the state. Farmers were more than happy to have you hunt their land because they were eating all the crops in that area, and there were upwards of 50 deer per square mile of land. They weren't able to sell nearly enough licenses even for pocket change, and at the end of the next summer, what everyone hoped wouldn't happen, happened. The farmers went out to harvest their crops, and had to stop their harvesters every few yards to move a rotting carcass. That outbreak killed nearly all the deer in the unit, and even now almost ten years later, numbers have not recovered. I guess mother nature said, "If you won't use 'em, I won't give 'em to ya.
The best part is where she's all like "I'm gonna go put on my waders", cut to a scene of her putting one on and then...poof...she doesn't have them on and isn't in the water.
Dang women say they can do any job a man does, but sho didn't see that lady warden putting on waders and dragging that deer to save it....

On the 2nd show those guys that shot the mule deer does, really don't have a good excuse because just because you hunt an area for a long time you still need to check the regulations every year because some things get changed and if you don't look at it well ignorance is no excuse! I have hunted the same area for over 30 years, but every year I keep checking the regulations, because for the last couple years, every year something else changes! The other thing when people are out hunting areas that are public lands you have to be careful that you're not getting on private land that does not have fences, I have had several times where there is public land but then all of a sudden it turns into private land and so a friend told me about an app that's called on X hunt, and that thing is wonderful, because even if you're in an area without cell service you can still use it because it is a GPS and it will show you where private land is and where public land is even when there are no fences! I would highly recommend people download that app and there is like a monthly or yearly fee but it's only about 35 or $40 but it is well worth it to have! 👍

I stalked a coyote for about Two Miles. It didn't even know I was behind it. I didn't kill it. I was grouse hunting back then. When you didn't have to purchase a 300 Dollar permit.

700 yards is not that far or difficult that game warden doesn’t know what he’s talking about. That’s seal team six stuff? 🤦♂️🤣 The sad part is people will believe him without actually doing any research or actually asking someone who knows.

You literally don’t have a clue what you’re talking about and you’re just repeating nonsense that you have heard. Animals don’t move that much if they take a step. The foot moves forward but the body doesn’t travel the same distance. Animals don’t take full steps either when starting out. They like humans take a partial step and then a full step. The body itself will move 2”-4” depending on the animal on a first step. So even if they take a step you will still impact in the vitals.
Then you factor in terminal ballistics. The hydraulic/hydrostatic shock (temporary wound cavity) will extend outward causing damage. So even if you impact the very back of the vitals it will still destroy the vitals. That’s called shot placement forgiveness. Bullets used for long range hunting create massive trauma even at low impact velocities.
Then factor in external ballistics of the bullets used and flight time. Long range bullets are heavier and have high bc’s being more aerodynamic. That means they fly through the air better being less affected by wind and less drop. This leads to shorter flight times. At 700 yards with the average long range setup we are looking at fractions of a second.
The animal at 700 yards in fractions of a second simply cannot move that much. The amount of movement it can achieve will only shift the point of impact a couple inches. That will still result in a vital hit and a dead animal. Then the shock damage factored in what you’re claiming is not possible. Hell I’ve killed mule deer over 700 yards with a 308 win which is one of the slowest long range cartridges used. Even then with the slowest the flight time isn’t enough to cause a miss of the vitals if it steps like you claim.
You are out of your depth here and speaking with no actual knowledge or experience. I’m coming from actual experience and knowledge. You and the game warden are wrong plain and simple.
@@rabbithomesteading3797Are you anti archery hunting? Archery hunting is the number one method used that has the most wounded and lost animals. It has longer flight times, the animal can react to you ducking or running, arrows don’t have shot placement forgiveness, and most people doing it have minimal training.
Arrows don’t have shock to aid them. They are limited to the size of the blades and shot placement. They can actually move enough to cause a miss or gut shot like you claim. That’s at close range. The flight time at 30 yards of the average bow is the same flight time as one of my long range rifles at 1000 yards. The deer reacting to the bow string, movement, etc causing it to duck or run. That’s exclusive to archery because of the short distance. That’s not even a factor at long range. So are you against archery hunting? Because everything you said about long range is actually true in archery hunting. If you’re not against archery then you’re a hypocrite.

The women warden with the deer in the water was the most useless person. Women should not be in law enforcement, they are inherently put their male partners at risk.

Not sure if you are blind but she did help. You must have had a bad experience with a female warden, either you are a poacher or just jealous that she was able to become one and you are to lazy to even run to the bathroom from your key board warrior chair.

That was a great thing, the tow truck, driver notifying the warden of the stuck deer on the river, and then the hunter, helping the warden, save the young buck from freezing to death. It did really bother me that the next warden admonished the two guys for shooting a coyote on private land, but just kept saying, “I know it’s just a coyote “, then nobody went to look for it. So a deer is a waste of game, but not a coyote?! That’s a sad way of thinking.

BC is the same, except for the fact that its one Game Warden per 6,000 sq km. Enforcement is a lot harder, but they still take it seriously.
A buddy of mine lives in Colorado and he told me they are really strict on people who break the game laws I believe he said it was Colorado springs there was one elk that lived in turn the lights in city limits in somebody poched it the warden's found out who it was the guy wound up getting jail time and like a 20,000 fine

Well it’s obvious many don’t read the game regs. I just wonder if changes in the regs are made very noticeable. Specifically, are any changes in bold print in a different color? Other wise it would be pretty easy to miss a recent change. It should be considered a recent change with some special designation in the regs manual for 3yrs as many don’t hunt every year. It also couldn’t be that difficult to have text on the hunting license stating a major change in the regs. How hard would it be to print on the license WARNING: You may not shoot a mule deer doe with this license in Zone 5!
It reminds me to get online and read the regs for my out of state hunts.

Its because of all these UA-camrs that say they can kill an elk from a 1000 yards. People actually believe it too. I hesitate to take a 300 yard shot. Has to be flat, no wind, and lots of daylight. Never past 300 though.
Seems like a real failure to publicize rules changes when multiple hunters are unaware they can’t take does.

I sat and watched a nice 8 point buck for over an hour last year and couldn’t shoot because I tagged out already.
Regulation stacked on top of regulation, never give your money to Montana so they can find you out hunting and shake you down for more money. Not worth the headache, they will find something to pin on you.

Hunters should not fight hunters. Just do what you think is ethical and legal. Make sure we promote the practice of eating from the wild and not loose our rights to hunt. Thats all! Good luck hunting! 🙂

Why can "disabled" shoot from the road? If they're not able to get out & track, how will they process their game? That is the most ridiculous rule ever!

I know a couple disabled hunters that actually have friends and family that assist them with the recovery when they do kill one.
I understand that it's hard for some people to believe that disabled people are capable of having friends, but I swear it's true.

@@winterwolf13 Don't ask me; I'm not the guy who questioned why some disabled people are allowed to shoot from the road.
I'm disabled and can hunt from a vehicle on my bad days, but on my better days, I try to walk back in a few hundred yards. But, it means that I can still get out there and get healthy meat and my family has no problem helping me get the deer out! I still gut them myself and do as much as I can. But the biggest thing is that I can still hunt and provide with a little help!!!
