Did he know Nigel didn’t die?, I think he appeared in the second one because before the movie ended we saw him alive
I speak Spanish and I feel awkward not knowing what they're saying.
Also sad fact, Blu and Jewl's species, the Spix Macaw, which look nothing like they they do in the movie, are a real bird species that are currently extinct in the wild, with a total of 177 individuals in captivity.
I could be wrong but I believe I read that there's a small breeding population that was just rereleased in hopes of reintroducing them into the wild, so fingers crossed.
i heard some news that recently some of the ones that were released into the wild actually reproduced!!
It’s actually funny, after the sequel movie came out they went “extinct”. Then they came back. It sucks tho cuz without the biodiversity they’ll be inbreeding and that might cause problems.
Isn't that the whole reason the movie got made? To bring attention to this issue?
all the species in the movie are real and the point was to show how bird trafficking is terrible for the biodiversity, and they actually do it exactly like they showed, putting all of the birds together squeezed in the same cage, only about 10% of those birds are able to survive the transortation
Fun Fact: Birds from different regions can have regional dialects, so in fact they can have accents and diverse songs!

As for how the scientist found Blu: considering that the book store is literally called "Blue Macaw Books", then Blu is probably a big part of the store's branding. A local bookstore where I live has like 3 cats in it that just wander around, and they're on the sign and everything. So it's pretty conceivable that he saw a photo or something from this bookstore, especially if the internet algorithm picked up his obsession with birds and decided to throw a picture from a blog post or something his way the next time he was googling something.

Real recently, the real life blue macaw (Spix's Macaw) was confirmed to have bred in the wild for the first time in 37 years! They're currently listed as extinct in the wild but many of them have been released into a wildlife refuge built specifically for them. In captivity, the population is estimated to be 177 as of 2022.

4:42 Actually, they (sort of) do! Crows from different areas will have different "accents". They use different sounds to communicate the same ideas depending on region! So a bird going from Minnesota to Brazil could totally have difficulty communicating with the locals, even if they're the exact same species!

Not just that the BR dub is AMAZING! We have Blu's voice actor (who also voices Hiccup in HTTYD), Jewel's voice actress (who also voices Dora the Explorer) Linda's voice actress (who voices Rapunzel) and more. Also Rodrigo Santoro who's voicing Tulio in this dub also voices him in the BR dub.

as a brazilian and a biologist i had an intership in a birds zoo and is amazing how accurate the movie was about their behavior, macaws are one of the most inteligent animals i have ever seen
No offense but Nigel eating a drumstick actually isn't surprising to me. Many birds actually eat other birds, particularly baby birds. Sad but true. Casual geographic even did a video, on how no species are truly only carnivore or herbivore.
that and lots of animals resort to cannibalism for one reason or another. also a fellow casual geographic fan i see

Actually birds do „speak“ in different accents depending on their region. I once watched a documentary about a bird who migrated from Germany to France and got more girls in France because they liked his foreign accent
The voice actor for Nigel did voice the crab in Moana. Jemaine Clement- highly recommend checking him out.
As for a holiday movie how about Arthur’s Christmas. Some action scenes, military santa claus, and lots of mayhem.
The villain’s song might remind you of Shiny from Moana because it’s the same voice actor, Jemaine Clement. 😊
As weird and crazy this movie was z it really helped raise awareness for the actual bird , they did go extinct in the wild but recently a group of scientists released a group of them and have been observing them on how well they are doing

A Christmas animated movie that I would HEAVILY recommend in case you haven’t seen it yet is Klaus (2019). It’s perhaps my favorite Christmas cartoon of all and i think it’s super underrated.

You said that Nigel's song reminds you of Shiny, well I wouldn't blame you because both characters are voiced by the same actor.
I remember first watching this movie as a kid at my aunts house, shortly after it came out. I didnt know anything about it, it just looked like a nice movie about birds, and I was a big animal lover in my youth.
Needless to say, I loved it, and still do! It's such an underappreciated film!
Part of the reason the film was made was to help save the Blue Spix Macaw, which was at the time, on the critical list. Sadly the cause was in vain. By the second film, all Blue Spix Macaws in the wild died. All we have left of domesticated ones in zoos and homes. I read where they were going to try to introduce Domesticated ones in the wild but I never saw how that worked out.
Watching the Polar Express for a Christmas special would be iconic
Fun fact, and I learnt this in Ornithology, birds don't speak different languages, but some song birds do have regional accents...So a woodpecker can be of the same species or sub species in one state but sound slightly different in another....Sometimes you can go birdwatching and they will teach you "This is how a bullfinch sounds" but because of accents it can sound different
this movie is so stereotypical yet so beautiful that I really don't care if this is the only thing foreigners will know about us
and yes, about how carnaval actually looks like, its exactly like that during the parade (when the samba schools make their performances for the competition), but during the whole week we also have the bloquinhos, which are like street parties where people just go dancing and drinking around in the middle of the day like they showed in the beginning when they had just arrived at rio and he meets his dentist
You could watch "The Flight Before Christmas", I believe it is quite a good movie, and just in case I would like to state the title up above was not a typo.

Wonderful commentary as ever! If you would like a recommendation for something absolutely hilarious and you have seen 'The Princess Bride', I suggest 'Once Upon A Deadpool'. It is the PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 and so much better in my opinion because of all the extra jokes and scenes added to replace all of the rated R ones.
OMG! Once a Deadpool will be perfect for Welchy! It has some same scenes but others are scenes that were cut.
Rio 2. It's actually pretty good, has a family roadtrip to the Amazon rainforest and Nigel on a revenge quest with a frog who's in love with him
Rio and Megamind are both underrated and both didn’t get the credit that they deserved when they came out. Rio practically saved an entire species and was a huge pillar for Jesse Eisenberg’s career, while Megamind gave birth to the essence of persistent and timeless meme culture in an animated movie.
Well if you haven’t seen it yet I would recommend Klause, it’s an underrated Christmas movie but I love it

I don't know about having different languages, but song birds are known to have regional accents, and it's been observed that a city birds and country side birds of same species have pitch differences :)

While same species of birds have the same sound/chirp regardless of locations, birds that sing have different songs depending on their regions, because chirping is from instinct and singing is from learning. Also, birds don't necessarily understand other bird species. They may recognise each others' sounds and specific calls, but they don't "talk" the same. Like humans.
So in cartoon universe, Blu and the female of his species (I haven't finished the video so I don't know yet lol) could understand each other, but not the other birds. But they could learn how they sing.

I love this movie and I love Blue Sky. They made this in Brazil and Ferdinand in Spain. They were my hope of having a Portuguese animated movie, so close.
It was such a amazing studio, I miss them. At list Nimona was able to be saved before the end of the studio. Can´t wait for more reactions of Blue Sky movies, I know they aren't perfect, but I have fun with most of them.
