- St.Bee's Head to Haweswater.
Eric Robson joins the master fell walker and shares the highlights of his 190 mile walk from St. bees Head in Cumbria to Robin Hood's bay on the North Yorkshire coast.
This classic but "unofficial" long distance route was devised by Wainwright in 1972 and traversed what Wainwright described as, ' the grandest territory in the North of England'.
Two thirds of the route lie within three National parks and today AW's achievement is regarded by discerning walkers as the finest long trek in Britain.

Love it - a fell walker and a chain smoker, and lived into his 80s 😀
I bought this on VHS. This series stuck in my head all these from when I was a child. And the music, so haunting, Holst Brook Green Suite
Thank you so much for sharing these delightful videos!
A. W. Wainwright never seems to wear any Goretex...I might get myself an M&S jacket too.
Thank you for posting this :)
what an amazing man with foresight to create his walking books which opened up the world of walking the Fells to thousands of people...his guide books are as popular as ever and will always be a source of information for all and future Fell walkers.....he would be astounded today to see how popular he made fell walking through his books....
I agree with AW about Haystacks, we had the privilege of hiking it back in July and yes, paid our respects to ‘Dear AW’
His birthday today
Watching a beautifull dream of the genius of a Mr Wainwright and the broadcast was awesome 😉👍

It's sad to see the decline of a legendary hero.. poor fella can hardly breathe and all those cigarettes have done him serious damage.
