When Sarah Wendt lost both parents on the Oregon Trail and was left with three young siblings to raise, she was angry with God. Only two days from Oregon City, her father had died before getting to the city he’d been talking about for well over a year.
When Elmer King realized that Sarah had lost her father, he did what he’d been trying to find the courage to do since before they’d left Independence; he asked her to marry him. Together, they would raise her siblings and file their claims on land near Clover Creek.
Sarah had no way of knowing the type of man Elmer really was until after they married, when she discovered he was everything he seemed to be. Sarah’s anger toward God made her see the whole world differently, and she couldn’t seem to get past it.

Your stories about traveling the Oregon Trail really hit home with me since I live in Oregon. In Baker, OR I have visited the Oregon Trail museum & seen the grooves in the ground from the wheels of the many wagons that crossed the plains. Inside the museum is a lot of memorabilia that has been collected. It’s a fabulous place to visit & your series reinforces the difficulties of those determined individuals to reach our great state.

I live in modern-day Clover Creek. We have an amazing Oregon/California Trail Center here. A historian/teacher of the Oregon Trail died a few years back, and his family donated his entire library to our center. As the custodian of that library, I have read so much about the trail, and decided I NEEDED to write a series about the journey.
