  • POV: You’re in the Japanese Acupuncture V lab in Worcester. Students pair up and practice conducting a full treatment session. The session starts with an intake, or questions to discern the patient’s “main complaint.” Then the practitioner develops a diagnosis by taking the patient’s pulse and feeling the abdomen. Then individualized treatment is administered, beginning with the root treatment and followed by the local treatment, which is also called branch treatment. The root treatment is meant to bring systems back into alignment and aims to address the source of the problem. The local treatment aims to address the patient’s symptoms. Treatments can include cupping and bloodletting.
