my frogs do that too... the thing is they do it not only as a defense mechanism XD they literally like to sit in the middle of the tank on a bamboo and YEET all over the place XD
Fun 🐸 Fact! This species Latin name translates to “Blue Tree Frog” because the first specimen White sent to England was turned blue because the alcohol used to preserve it stripped the blue out of its skin and the British scientists didn’t realise So it’s a Green Tree Frog, we call a Whites Tree Frog, that in Latin is a Blue Tree Frog! Also they probobly arnt found in New Zealand any more since the last sighting was in the 1950s Anyway great video as always Em! 🐸
This is all true, however I believe “green tree frog” is more commonly used in reference to the American (and European?) tree frogs. Much smaller and far less sedated! But equally personable. Sadly less captive-bred; more parasites from wild, blah blah. Still love em. Australia’s ban on wildlife exporting is a good thing for captive populations around the world though!
we stan a thoughtful frog boi with that good s t i c c c c (seriously though, bless u and your content--I grew up watching Animal Planet and Discovery Channel and reading Zoobooks, and you have the same positive, educational energy :)
Whites tree frogs are so good. Also thank you for wearing gloves and explaining when he went on your skin why it wasnt good for him. So many people in the hobby glaze over this and it leads to a lot of new owners not understanding why they cant pick up their frog with bare hands
thank’s for the video !! i have a vivarium set up and just ordered 2 white’s frogs, and i could use all the knowledge and advice possible ! i’m so excited for them to arrive☺️☺️
I recently bought one at a reptile expo, it is also my first frog! I cannot tell the gender yet, but the little dude is so cute and fascinating. Sometimes I get jump scared feeding it, because its so eager and agressive! These frogs love their food! Considering getting another for company.
He's so fantastic! We get quite a few tree frogs on our house in the summer and they hide in the downspouts during the day because it gets too hot for them. The size on the Whites tree frog is impressive though!
Hey! Your video was shared in my Whites Tree Frog FB group Whites Tree Frog Lovers. We love it. Thank you for wearing gloves and caring/talking about these frogs. Feel free to stop by our FB group!
Hey Em, It’s fine if you can’t, but I would love to see you talk about the mimic octopus so others can see how fascinating they are. My favorite animal by far and also just learned it was discovered the year i was born. Anyway love your vids, I just rewatched the ferret fun vid because I might be getting one soon and I’m excited.
We only really know them as green tree frogs in Australia. Even wild ones are super chill and most don't mind being handled. They are a bit tricky to dig out of the toilet though haha. 😂😂
Lmao they are just too cute. I’m glad to know about the obesity because I can see myself feeding them and having them being “plump” and I would be confused
Are you going to film the care of the white tree frogs? I’ve been researching them for over a year Bc I want to get one, but I will always appreciate your input on their care too, I just want to have all my frogs in line before I hop into it
I have 2 whites tree frogs, Sally and Nick (my son named them lol) I appreciate you making these videos! So many people know so little about reptiles, it's nice that someone is sharing the knowledge
We have heaps do these little guys around the farm. And toads. And tiny tiny little brown frogs. Luckily I’ve never found one in a toilet. 😂😂 got to love Australia
Lol I just love how the obe frogs look. I think they’re so cute. When i first started watching the video the frog reminded me of stickers I’ve seen somewhere. Perhaps A bummer sticker.
Thanks, Em. Never knew this type of frog existed so all new information. Loved the sound effects but was a bit intimated by the kookaburra stink eye at the end. LOL
I used to own a frog. Very stinky creatures. Although they are quite beautiful, although I gave him up to a zoo so they could study him and host reptile exhibitions. I’m Australian! :D
Haiii, Your litterally my animal superhero! When everyone says "I'm your biggest fan" I'm actually your BIGGEST BIGGEST, FANNN!!! Emma, you have the most zoological knowledge Ever! Do you study ornithology (i do) LOVE YOUR CHANNEL IM A SMALL UA-camR BYW
I'm from NZ. I can confidently say, there are no wild populations there. They were never introduced successfully. The only instance I heard was the person who did bring them over was fined and the animals were terminated.
I have an Australian White's tree frog. His name is Charming. I wish I knew more. I see people just holding them, yet you're saying our skin can hurt them. I want to know how to take care of him the best way possible. Any suggestions on where I can learn more?
Its Ausquid I didn’t :) I went straight into work experience with animals. Any animal work experience counts, and any accredited animal care course will teach you so much!
So the oil from our hands and what ever else we use on them like soup would be toxic because they partially breath through their skin, very absorbent, would blend with their mucus kinda like your shnails, right?
I love them we always find them in the toilets at school it sometimes scares us because when you flush the toilet outcomes frog I live in Australia and they’re so cute we have to take them out of the toilet and put them in the cane
I have a white tree frog and it literally DOES NOT MOVE EVER.He has a fake suction cup branch and right under it it his water bowl. the only movement he ever makes is one step down into the water bowl and back up. When i feed him i do it in a separate bin then put him bak. IS THIS NORMAL? he look healthy and all he just literally NEVER MOVES
I'v researched whites treefrogs before.........I was actually looking to buy one. But I started getting more interested in birds , so I did not get one .... they're cool little animals😘
I used to have a female Whites tree frog as a pet along with several others, they are great low maintenance pets, 4-7 crickets a week, a little pond of water, a few nice mossy flats, a few rocks and a few branches for them to climb on in a terrarium and they're pretty content, they're one of the few species that are comfortable with being held by humans somehow they can tell the difference between the intention of a pet owner and a predator. Mine was named Lilly (from Frogger 2) and she loved having her back stroked from just behind her eyes gently back with 1 finger to her hind legs. I had her for 3 years and she learned how to escape her environment to explore, we caught her hopping around on her own twice but she escaped one last time and we never did find her. Seriously I'd recommend the Whites to anyone, they're even great with other frogs and toads in the same environment as long as none of them are big or small enough to try to eat each other, general rule never pair a frog with another frog smaller than the others head you'll end up with one fat and happy frog in most cases.
The color changing is interesting. Here in Austria we have the European Treefrog which also can be brown or green but from what I've heard it correlates with the structure of the surface they are sitting on. rough surface = brown, smooth surface = green. Maybe because of the trunk-leaf-difference? No idea actually but still interesting that it's different with the australian species :) greets from vienna
Yesss I’m so excited!! My whole family is scared of frogs but I adore tree frogs in particular! They’ve got such personalities ❤️ didn’t even know you had one! Such a sweet creature Great video as always Em! I’m excited to check out the new merch!!
Scared of frogs? I know people that are annoyed by the croaking. I know people that are annoyed at closed roads due to frog/toad migration. I know that some people think frogs are yucky due to them looking moist leading people to think they are slimy like a snail or slug... But scared? Bullfrogs are serious units but your regular tree frog or pond dwelling frog? Why are they scared of them? Were they jumped by frogs once?

@@jamesgladman314 Sure is!
Thanks so much for this awesome addition of facts! I did wonder why they used the Latin name for ‘blue’ rather than green!!
Emzotic no worries Em! I actually did a green tree frog video just the other week, but my audience is MUCH smaller then yours! 😂
This is all true, however I believe “green tree frog” is more commonly used in reference to the American (and European?) tree frogs. Much smaller and far less sedated! But equally personable. I USED TO CATCH TOADS IN MY BACKYARD WHEN I WAS LITTLE TO LOOK AT THEM!! I ALWAYS THOUGHT THEY WERE FROGS AND NOW I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE 😍🥰💕
Aasia W Hahahaha!! It’s easy to get muddled. Typically toads have heavier, more warty skin and don’t have webbing on their toes.
