      My only question why? Why all this complexity? I have no time for this i have to get working now💪. Looking for a very simple system 😁

    • @joelhedtjarn9
      @joelhedtjarn9 3 роки тому +25

      @@ariahemin1000 This is all about production capacity (PC). By spending time improving your skills and processes, you will increase your capacity of producing (P) good work. If you spend the majority of your time producing (P) and not improving the way you work, your level of productivity will probably stay the same, ie. not improve. Ideally, there should be a balance between P and PC, so it's up to you whether you want to prioritise improvement or production.
      This person probably started off with a simple system, but wanted to improve it further to help him become more productive. The complexity is a byproduct of that.

    • @Jack-gp3rk
      @Jack-gp3rk 2 роки тому +13

      @@joelhedtjarn9 That's an important point. I guess one probably needs to start with a simpler system and maintain discipline to it for some time. Then reflect, adjust, try for some time and again - reflect, adjust. With the time you'll get to some complexity but in an organic way - that's a more effective way than starting with top-down planned, complex systems.
      The one shown here by Bryan looks very neat, though might be overwhelming at the beginning, nobody has to copy it 1:1. For me it's a source of great inspiration, so I'll grab some ideas from it, adjust for my style and will something working for me - as I think everybody should do by himself/herself.

    I'll be honest, I let out an audible sigh when I say how long the video was, but I broke it up into chunks and watched it all (some parts more than once). Excellent walk through of how you process information and full of great suggestions for people (like me) who struggle with this. Some of it was over my head, but that's OK, because it's good to see how people have created more advanced systems even if even component isn't clear. There are lots of nuggets here for everyone to use, however. For example, I love the empty "tag" page (you called it "society" in your example) that can turn into a MOC later. I also liked the way you described using long descriptive names for your new notes. Thanks so much for taking the time to share. It's really appreciated.

    I'm using Obsidian these days. Its nice to finally have an app that uses concepts I've been using for 15+ years now (plain text/markdown, taxonomies, tags, hyperlinking, etc). I used to hyperfocus on this stuff a lot, writing about the LoC system, RSS, book notes, sketchnoting conferences etc. You're doing a great job of explaining things. Please take care of yourself, as the burnout around productivity hyperfocuses are a bitch.

    Honestly, I've watched a ton of videos and keep *thinking* I get it only to add the template I made during said videos to my first note and have things quickly crumble as I stress about what templates *I* need, all the options and possibilities, etc. Which is to say, I kept wondering if perhaps all the UA-camrs sharing info about Zettelkasten/Obsidian just don't deal with ADHD :P
    Not even 5 minutes into this and you've already mentioned ADHD and I can see in your script that you'll talk about it later. Yours isn't a perspective I would have thought to seek, but now I'm realizing it's one I very much need. Really appreciate the hard work you've put into this, thank you!

    Thank you so much, as someone just getting into using Obsidian and Zettelkasten, this video is heaven-sent. However I have some confusion about tags/keywords. In “How to Take Smart Notes” the author mentions that the Zettelkasten isn’t meant to be used as an archive (not to assume that you mainly use it this way but perhaps this software makes it possible without getting overwhelmed in which case why not use it that way too?) and that as opposed to selective and economical use of keywords, broad keywords/tags(or links in your case) like “Psychology”, “Society” might make it more difficult to gather notes focused/structured to the specific context suited to our needs as a significant part of the thinking process.. in his words, “with an eye towards topics we are working on or interested in, never by looking at the note in isolation.”
    I can understand how it might help in serendipitous discovery of ideas using the MOCs on first hitting critical mass yet these MOCs themselves may collect thousands of notes over a long period of time and form too similar collections with other MOCs that make it difficult to navigate through to create something meaningful in a different context
    is this because this software/ your organizational method accommodates this kind of approach as well as the streamlined archiving capabilities of Obsidian that you use it this way? Or in your experience, do you find that it helps your process more to do it this way? Or is there another reason?

    Not finished your video yet, but wanted to add some comments / ideas while i was watching the video
    a) You are very articulate when doing your video. Also, just generally, you are very well spoken
    b) Im intrigued by your method and reasons for doing the vault and pkm. Another idea that popped up while you were describing the different facets of capturing,classifying, processing,etc data/notes makes me think your method or process work flow would be ideal for AI. I would be surprised if the computer scientist are not using something very similar to this process.
    c) and to prove b), the network graph view of your vault looks very much like a brain to me. And by AI using a similar process that you describe, would have a similar view of its brain!
    just letting you know what thoughts popped out while watching your video! Excellent by the way :)

    I know we shouldn't be transcribers, however, sometimes things are too novel and difficult for initial processing. For us to branch out with unique ideas, we must first "memorize" and store the given data in our "skills toolbox" for later use. What are your thoughts?
