On the last example, you might have just misunderstood the guy's autism as sketchiness.

I have an acronym. The person I try to avoid is the D.I.V.A., which stands for Demanding, Inflexible, Volatile, and Arbitrary.

@@andrewwasson I think demanding is a good thing if done correctly, because you want the best from each other however I can see it getting off the rails if gone too far

You got a point eith it being harder to find ppl. Even tho online the pool of ppl is bigger, you get no sense of who the person is through their online profile. A scene makes getting started a lot easier.

What about a drummer who constantly plays the snare and bass drum on the wrong beat? How do you deal with that if member is part founder of the band?

To me, the biggest losers are always the musicians who squander their god given talent for the most mediocre and soul crushing work because somebody convinced them that the only value and artist can provide, is making money.

It's kind of like being a writer. If your books aren't selling but the New York Times are offering you a job, you are going to take it.

@@JVMC_ZR1 I wouldn’t qualify the New York Times as mediocre.

@@LesterBrunt Maybe I should have said some random Newspaper 🗞️. Work is work at the end of the day, it's better working as a musician than having a regular 9 to 5.

Good one Andrew. I'm not a great musician by any means but I've been in some bands and I've experienced some of your scenarios. Finding good partners can be a difficult thing. When you do find someone good it sure is nice.

Well said! Those key players you'll meet in your life are few and far between, but worth the wait.

ok, so you're the sober super serious one.... that'll work out great for you :P i guess the singer needs to be a loose canon, for a band to be any good, and the rest just there to cover his mistakes. solid music is great, but music is now fixed... anyone can make music... the loose canon singer brings the fun and the soul into it. an artists short comings are making his style, a musicians short comings get him replaced... i guess well let andrew be in charge of the music for now :)

My big peeve is lack of communication. It doesn’t take 3+ days to return a text about whether they are available for a gig offer or rehearsal session. There’s no way to get anywhere in any field without effective communication. And it’s soooo easy these days that I use it as my barometer of a person’s competency and interest altogether.

I know a lot of extremely reliable, competent people who might not return a text or call within a week. They have absolutely no problem communicating in real life. Some people just don't live on their phones.

Do you just drive around town looking for your band mates?

From what I can tell there are two types of bands, one is a bunch of friends who really love jamming together and it works (The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi - for a long while), then there are the ones that hire each other (The Who), and I guess it's a matter of taste which works better in the long run, if there is a long run (we are talking music after all). If that mini-series of The Beatles final project from a few years ago shows us anything, Ringo was barely a hired hand as he was just there to play like a robot on call, and barely ever talked, and George was getting dissed all over the place, so much so that he flat out quit and went home for good, only to be begged back into the band.
Matching personalities is never easy, and when it works, oh wow. The worst cases are the ones who don't gel personally but the music is incredible, but they are at each other's throats - literally! (The Who, Rogers and Hamerstien, Dokken, and so many more - dang it!).
The stink issue may be the hardest personally and legally to deal with, thanks HR.
