Watched it in the stadium and it was a jaw-dropping experience. Coming from a concert band, I found the ability to coordinate and play at the same time exceptionally impressive. The highlight was of course the throwing and catching of the mace. With one hand. It was much more difficult than it looked. All and all it was a great performance. Bravo for the distinction
I came from a symphonic band but I have always wondered what it would be like to be in a display band. Having watched all the display band performances over the years, my conclusion is that it is probably 10x tougher than being in a symphonic band. The amount of effort to memorise the piece, remember every single position during the 9+ min performance, ensuring you are in line with others during the formation etc etc. Preparation for this (and all previous) SYF must have entailed so much blood, sweat, tears and mental strength...and I am sure fun as well. Kudoes to every school and student that still participates in the display band AP. To DMB, it was a very entertaining and impressive performance! 5 stars!
Creativity, talent, hardwork all rolled into a beautiful masterpiece that will always be remembered by the band, and its audience for the longest of time
