DID faking on tiktok was like a huge thing in 2020-2022 back when I was on there, many who claimed to have like 58383 alters that were all Harry Potter characters or something like that used the exact terminology and descriptions this woman uses
It's been going on for a long time now. I first became aware of it via general tumblr insanity (see Jim's vid on the subject) when that was in the spotlight c. 2012. I'm sure it goes back even further to Livejournal, Usenet even.
The worst part is when they acknowledge this disorder is always a result of trauma and instead of working to get past that trauma, these people decide it would be better to try and scam money out of vulnerable people rather than getting help for their "trauma." Getting better would mean the money stops and "WE" cant have that.
Im an Lmsw/ therapist in the U.S. To my understanding, DID is real, the way these influencers portray it online is not. Its so rare, Ive never even seen it irl, (my supervisors have and Ive spent hrs asking ?s and Ive read the literature) but if I do, Ill have to warn my client against looking online because it's presented sooo poorly that it could actually cause harm. "Why cant i manage this incredibly severe mental disorder like they do?" "This is so different than me, my therapist must be wrong," etc... These are people who have a difficult time accepting the disorder anyway - they don't actually remember the "alters" time because real DID also comes with massive amnesia. They cant "trigger themselves" to a different personality without YEARS of practice/ therapy and if that were possible so would the actual treatment which is to integrate all the personalities together. Irl, nobody wants to lose huge pcs of time where they werent in control and dont know what they did. Can you imagine the nightmare that would be?! Also, even if theyd practiced for years, and learned to manage personality change by triggering themselves (also pretty impossible because triggers kind of need to be unplanned to be triggering) But even if ALL OF THAT were possible, it wouldn't be theatrical, creative, or fun to watch in any way. Its a super serious, traumatizing, and debilitating disorder that is developed from the sort of childhood trauma that these people couldnt even dream of. Sorry for rant, i get amped up because this pisses me off so bad. Like, even if it harms ONE PERSON w/ real DID, that's too many. These are people whove ALREADY been through hell like we cant even imagine.

Yeah, I've been friends with a psychiatrist for over a decade who worked at a psych hospital. I asked his opinions, and he pointed out the lack of amnesia is a huge tell that her "self-diagnosis is certainly incorrect." The amnesia is paramount to the diagnosis because it is a part of the defense mechanism the brain is generating.
He too also pointed out the fact her alters can coordinate to make a coherent video is another indicator this is fake.

it's not something that's supposed to be fun or celebrated like it is, it's not like having a step above a imaginary friend, this actual issue would be like having your entire mind shattered and having 20 shards you flip to at random. you can't have a child or partner and live normally like that, it's something that would need serious help from a very serious doctor (if they even exist anymore)

When I was researching for a learning disability I potentially could have had. I came across somebody who was doing something similar but with autism they’ve been told by three doctors but they did not have it but had convinced themselves that they had. claim self diagnosis was just as good as a normal one, but they would continuously go to doctors until one of them said yes

The same clinic she received a diagnosis from tried to convince me I had DID just from filling out some questionnaires & a phone consult when I was a teenager. Thankfully, even at that young age I had enough sense to see this as odd & ignored it. Years later I was given an actual REAL diagnosis of PTSD. Any clinic that is so quick to push the diagnosis they conveniently “specialise” in on anyone who is referred or refers themselves to them isn’t worth anything.

But, it can be a lucrative grift for the ethically malleable, as there are a lot of people who just want a piece of paper that says they have ADHD or Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Particularly for university, as that paper can buy you an extra hour on your exams.

Bro, I laughed at first and more and more, I got legit annoyed by these ass hats. I have BPD, and not only am I diagnosed by a license physician, but I can see how DID can be a thing but not like this. I can't regulate my emotions, so what happens is that I can't help how I feel at times, and it can be overwhelming. It does cause identity issues in a way with me on how im suppose to feel, act, process things and how to live day by day. For a long time Ive oprated on auto pilot so much that alot of times i didnt feel like myself and there was times i didnt who myself was suppose to be. I can tell not getting the help you need and not being able to process the trauma you've been through that your brain creates a defense mechanism. This shit can be overwhelming, and it legit made me an addict, alcoholic and overall chaotic person. I had a severely abusive childhood and it wasn't normal from the start and I died when I was born for 5 minutes and was a month overdue so from the start I already had a brain irregularly from the start and add in the severe mental,physical and SA abuse then you have a recipe of disaster. F these people seriously. When I was diagnosed I didn't want to make a damn cake. I wanted to research more and to understand this disorder was difficult, and i still abused substances . It took a long time,hard work, and help to be on the right path. I honestly don't know how I can still function and be well and healthy for the number of years and how much substance ive abused.,

I still say the best depiction of DID in fiction was in Mike Baron's 1980s comic The Badger. Barring the super powers a couple of the protagonist's personalities had, it was depicted pretty realistically - developed as a result of childhood/adult trauma, the personalities (I refuse to call them "alters,") didn't interact with each other, the core original personality was severely debilitated by the condition, and overall it made it impossible to live a normal life. Way more nuanced and interesting than this idiot.

@@Niteowl33 yeah I mean this is just from his streams and he has covered this person a lot. from what I've seen he's been very reasonable about it and doesn't make the stronger claim that I did. he doesn't know if it's legit or not. I have a lot of experience with mental illness and how the different professionals approach things to be convinced it's harmful BS. She's developing more alters so that would be a worsening of symptoms. If you have schizophrenia they say the worst thing you can do is encourage or engage with the delusions. New hallucinations showing up is the severity of the condition advancing. So even if this is all 100% legit I think most mental health professionals would be very concerned about how this is being presented.

He isn't specifically saying his jokes are on the off-chance that they're faking it. He's just making fun of them. This has the opposite effect of what your stated aim is. Making fun of mental illness while being unsure of if it's fake or not is a bad look at best if it turns out to be real, if not just becoming blatant discrimination for someone talking candidly about their illness. Maybe *you* know it's fake, though if you actually had credentials you wouldn't be likely to try to make diagnoses unless you worked with them, but he doesn't have a clue by your own admission. If it is getting worse then she needs help, not to be an internet laughing stock. If she's provably lying without a doubt then maybe you have a point, but Chud doesn't know that.
