After Dallas was blown out by NJ last night, I think Shannon deserves an apology from the people who said he was being too harsh on Dallas for not giving them more credit for winning four in a row against California teams (and needing extra time both times against San Jose).
Love the Power Rankings Shannon. Never miss em. As a Leafs fan definitely surprised to see Toronto so much higher after to back-to-back losses. I'm definitely not feeling confident going into a series against Boston (or florida... or tampa)
Yes but before that first game against Boston the leafs only lost once in their last 10 games. A bit of a rough week for Toronto but they’ve been playing well enough that it doesn’t matter much
Yes because Boston plays their best games against the Leafs and the Leafs play their worst games against the Bruins. In the likely event of them playing in Round 1, I’m almost certain Boston wins. If they don’t? Wouldn’t be surprised to see the Leafs win their series and the Bruins lose theirs.
The Leafs are the only team I can see Boston confidently beating. During their slump they lost twice to the Kraken, they definitely had wrinkles in their game. I think it’s a nerves thing. Toronto still fears Boston because of past failure.
@@creedencebakken2686 Yeah, looks like you're right going by their record. I just don't trust the Leafs or Oilers to be consistent enough to be a top 5 team. They often flounder when it comes to holding a top spot even during the regular season.
If you looked at the statistics and not just the scores for both of the games the Bruins won against the Leafs, the games were a lot closer than what the scores indicated. A case in point was the statistics after the Second Period of Monday's game - other than the score and the shots on net, Toronto had a huge advantage in shot attempts, puck possession, offensive zone time, etc..
Don't worry about that happening neither of them will be in the finals nhl playoffs are incredibly unpredictable every year we are stunned at first and second round results

Caps are 7-2-1 in their last ten. Their young guys are all heating up and Lindgren is a brick wall in net. If they make it into playoffs they could be a sneaky tough out
Not only that, but after struggling with scoring for pretty much the entire season, they've scored 43 goals in those 10 games, and at least 4 goals in all 7 wins. But the 5 game pacific northwest road trip against 5 good teams will be tough, and then the next 6 games to finish the month are all against good teams (unless Detroit has stopped being a good team).
as a diehard sabres fan, part of the fun at the end of a season like this is playing the standings watching game and delusionally theorizing about how we could make it in
The LTIR question is an interesting one. It's not cheating. It's totally allowed. But it does require the player to be hurt. And it doesn't seem like Vegas isn't doing well without Stone. The only thing that does seem a little sketchy is how they're ready for game 1 consistently which makes me wonder if they're actually still hurt or being held out until the playoffs and if there was a way to regulate that and make sure there isn't someone developing a rash for their equipment all of a sudden, it could work? But I'm not convinced the NHLPA or NHL are really interested in closing this loophole if you can really call it that. One other thing could be to make teams actually report their injuries like the NFL does. This can mitigate some of the suspicion if we actually know what the injury is and can see what the recovery time for that usually is.
All you need is a doctor to say he's hurt. Doesn't mean he is. There's no way in hell he's "injured" just before the trade deadline every year. They seriously put him on ltir 3 days before the deadline. Then magically he's cured game 1
The NHLPA will not agree to a deal where teams report what the injuries are. When it is known what injury a player had the opponents will target that area with slashes and cross checks. I think the team you have game 82 is the team you have for round 1 of the play-off was a good idea by Shannon altough I prefer to extend that to cover the entire play-off.
@@eriklinderstam2140nah thats dumb lol what if you’re missing a key player and cant play him game 82? just learn how to use the loophole this would cause even more issues
Red Wings are hanging on by a thread to be sure. People blaming a patch or blaming Yzerman for not making moves is stupid. It's pretty simple, they caught hot teams, then lost their best player. News flash: if you bottom out because you lose one player, you are not a playoff team! And who the hell was Yzerman going to get? Vatrano? Bye-bye Berggren. Chychrun? Even worse, bye-bye Edvinsson/Johansson. Any goaltending he may have been able to find? Bye-bye Cossa/ Augustine. Asking price for anything was astronomical and Yzerman isn't going to mortage the future for rentals on a playoff race that would probably end with a first round exit against Florida or NYR. This team is going to make or break on it's own. There's still time, they looked better against Vegas and let's see if they can carry that over. If not, then we're out, shuffle up and deal and take another run next year. True Wings fans show up every year LGRW
It's a good season when you can almost remember more than half of a team's losses off the top of your head. I can remember more than half of the Panthers just sitting and thinking for a few seconds.

Tonight was the first night in a while where Vegas felt like Vegas. Still not as good as they really are, sloppy but they at least looked they are were playing on the same team.
This was the best they’ve looked in awhile, and trade piece Noah Hanifin was a major contributor to what was an overall better team performance. No they’re certainly not firing on all cylinders yet, but this was good tonight against a good Red Wings team.

I was surprised to see the 5:00 mark before Pittsburgh appeared, as well as no drop to the bottom row. To your point, this team hasn't looked this bad since 2005-06, and things are heading down, not up.
Buffalo's first game without their longtime Captain, and they roll out a 40-hit performance against one of the top teams?? Buffalo hasn't had 40 hits in one game since Ruff was their coach. This could be the turning point you've been looking for Mr. Guy!
The Senators have lost to the following teams in the last 30 days: Chicago, Columbus, Anaheim and San Jose. On the other hand, they won the season series against Toronto. Inconsistent starts etc. Management has some really tough decisions ahead.
Thanks for bumping up Seattle. I feel they’ve been playing decently lately, but agree they will probably just miss the playoffs with all those early season OT losses coming back to haunt them. But I do feel they have the best shot out of the WC race teams to make it in. These two upcoming Vegas games will likely be the deciding factor.

There is absolutely no way Dallas is 11th. Sure they've had to fight back after giving up leads. Leads they shouldn't have had to fight back against. But. They. Fought. Back. I think Toronto should have dropped more this week, especially given how far Detroit fell for their bad week. Toronto looked bad in all four of their games against teams lower than them in the power rankings, losing twice to a team in the second row and barely beating teams in the third and fourth rows. Beyond that, Carolina still seems a bit high to me, while Dallas still seems a bit low.
Look at the three teams Toronto played this week - all three of these teams have traditionally played hard against the Leafs, regardless of where the teams are in the overall standings. The fact is: all four of those games were actually very close and the Leafs certainly were not outplayed in any of those four games and the statistics back it up. Carolina is 7-2-1 over their last ten games and are near the top of the overall standings. Although Dallas is 6-3--1 in their last ten, they have been woefully inconsistent and two OT wins over San Jose (one coming after being down 6-3 in the Third Period) certainly doesn't help an argument for them being ranked higher than what they are.
@@blackenedmagic888 Toronto is 16th in regulation wins. They got spanked twice by the Bruins and beat 2 bottom row teams, one in OT, one by a single marker. Dallas gets penalized for doing the same but the Leafs don't?

THG doesn't use the standings in his power rankings, but for what it's worth, Dallas is ahead of Carolina. @@jefflarson1652 Spanked by the Bruins? Obviously you didn't watch either of those games, did you? Yes, Boston won both games 4-1, but both games were a lot closer than the score indicated. After Dallas was blown out by NJ last night, I think Shannon deserves an apology from the people who said he was being too harsh on Dallas for not giving them more credit for winning four in a row against California teams (and needing extra time both times against San Jose).
Love the power rankings and your thoughtful approach. Even when I disagree.
I like your idea for the LTIR fix.
Love the Power Rankings Shannon. Never miss em. As a Leafs fan definitely surprised to see Toronto so much higher after to back-to-back losses. I'm definitely not feeling confident going into a series against Boston (or florida... or tampa)
I miss Dylan Larkin
Fuckin A you can say that again.
easiest way to fix the LTIR is to make teams have to be under salary cap even in playoffs
The Panthers made one move at the Trade deadline that was just as huge as any of the signings... Forsling for 8 years...
Didn't the Leafs get absolutely BTFO by the Bruins twice recently?
Surprised Islanders didn’t move up. Hopefully they continue the streak. Pulling for Calgary too.
Your Power Rankings are so much better than any others that I see out there.
Florida is scary. If my Avs make it out of the West, I'm nervous about seeing Florida in the Finals.
As scary as Florida looks this year, who says they're going to make it to the finals?
😳 we want Florida 😟
Don't worry about that happening neither of them will be in the finals nhl playoffs are incredibly unpredictable every year we are stunned at first and second round results
I think if your an Avs fan you should be more worried about getting out of the first round this year... just like every other western team.. its gonna be tough sleddin this year
No more rats
Judging by your attire ... Ima guess my Avs did " The Jeffersons " thang .
Movin' onnnnn up ...
I want that blue hat so bad man. The avs just don't make blue hats anymore. Everytime I go to games I look for new hats, and no blue ones. I look online, no blue ones. It's truly hell.
I envy a life in which being unable to find a blue Avalanche hat is "truly hell."
Caps are 7-2-1 in their last ten. Their young guys are all heating up and Lindgren is a brick wall in net. If they make it into playoffs they could be a sneaky tough out
We loved Chucky Sideburns when he played goal for the Blues. Glad to see he’s playing well for the Caps now.
Not only that, but after struggling with scoring for pretty much the entire season, they've scored 43 goals in those 10 games, and at least 4 goals in all 7 wins.
But the 5 game pacific northwest road trip against 5 good teams will be tough, and then the next 6 games to finish the month are all against good teams (unless Detroit has stopped being a good team).
as a diehard sabres fan, part of the fun at the end of a season like this is playing the standings watching game and delusionally theorizing about how we could make it in
How do you think the Sabres do this week in their 3 games?
Shannon, you should have nailed that Chicago puck to the board on 32nd position
Colorado firing on all cylinders
I like that plan. LTIR into the playoffs and you're ineligible to play in the first round.
Thank gawd the board is once again back
As a Habs fan, love the honesty and insight. Best background room by the way. Always a great channel to catch and keep it up.
Would be cool to see the Capitals make the playoffs.
Always love seeing you in avs gear!
Funny some people get bent about "power rankings ". It's opion and if you don't like make your own list with your team # 1😂😂
I made a list where toronto is always number one and wins the cup every year. Then I watch them play Boston and toss my list into the fireplace
Don’t count out Jake the snake Allen as a dark horse to help NJ
It's a good season when you can almost remember more than half of a team's losses off the top of your head. I can remember more than half of the Panthers just sitting and thinking for a few seconds.
Nobody is going to knock Chicago back😂 Thank you for keeping up with these. It’s my must watch video every Sunday.
Love the hockey guy. I’ll take number two. Did not sell the farm to take a shot at the big time. Number one team looks tough, but…. Go blueshirts. Later hockey guy from Hawaii.
Tonight was the first night in a while where Vegas felt like Vegas. Still not as good as they really are, sloppy but they at least looked they are were playing on the same team.
Other than Kolesar trying to hurt Roy, yeah. They look like a team that has met and practiced before instead of playing pick-up shinny
This was the best they’ve looked in awhile, and trade piece Noah Hanifin was a major contributor to what was an overall better team performance. No they’re certainly not firing on all cylinders yet, but this was good tonight against a good Red Wings team.
this preds team reminds me of the 16-17 team.
I’ve been hearing that and it’s intriguing as a Preds fan that wasn’t a fan back then
@@Cheyennemae.A it really does remind of that team.
@@deathgrinderb3284 which makes me even more excited for the playoffs
With last night's games, based on games at hand. NYI move up to the metro 3. Washington moves up to wildcard 1. Tampa sits in wildcard 2 do to a tiebreaker over Phi and Det. LET'S GO CAPS!!!!!!!!!!
I'm hoping we can make it to row 3! Come on Columbus!
Pens fans who are old enough remember the pre Lemieux or X-Generation days know some dark times are coming. I’ve seen 6 Stanley cup appearances with five wins I can live through a couple of years Paul Baxter & Kris Beech type players.
I was surprised to see the 5:00 mark before Pittsburgh appeared, as well as no drop to the bottom row. To your point, this team hasn't looked this bad since 2005-06, and things are heading down, not up.
Pundits underestimate how fickle and spoiled Penguins fans are. Add in the inaccessible prices of tickets and the jeers will be a-flowing, baby.
the four good Canadian teams all beside each other
Buffalo's first game without their longtime Captain, and they roll out a 40-hit performance against one of the top teams?? Buffalo hasn't had 40 hits in one game since Ruff was their coach. This could be the turning point you've been looking for Mr. Guy!
How do you think Buf does this week in their 3 games?
Great as always!
As a fan of a non Florida east team I hope they win the presidents trophy. Really reduces the anxiety from playing them.
The Senators have lost to the following teams in the last 30 days: Chicago, Columbus, Anaheim and San Jose. On the other hand, they won the season series against Toronto. Inconsistent starts etc. Management has some really tough decisions ahead.
Have some rest Shannon!
Damn my teams had a rough week it’s brutal out here
Always love to see you in Avs Gear

Dallas should be in Top 3 at least, common
Only 4 regulation wins in 12 games
For the fourth straight week Florida is the number one team!" That reminds me of the old radio days when you'd hear "For the fourth straight week our number one song is 'Joy To The World' by Three Dog Night". Yeah, I'm that old.
Funny, how you have to issue a disclaimer on how it works, before every power ranking video. Not just the first one back in October, but every single one, for the rest of the season, lol!
It’s all about the power ranking.
I think a much better solution to the LTIR discussion to just have teams be cap compliant in the playoffs. It's so bizarre to me that teams are allowed to be over the during the playoffs
Seeing the Habs drop out of 26 is alarming because they’ve been there all year lol especially when they took 3 playoff teams to OT (Tampa, Florida, Nashville)

Islanders are coming for Phiily's spot on the Metro.
islanders are coming for the wings spot. The Philly spot will go to Washington.
Briere has admitted the Flyers could still miss the Flayers, but he has said he wouldn't sacrifice to avoid it.
Sharp looking outfit you got there. Colorado looks good on you.
The starwars joke was top tier, these rankings are the highlight of the week.
I will comment before watching the video. However far you dropped the Wings it wasnt enough. I was at the AZ DET game Friday and they looked absolutely horrible. Didn’t even start playing until the third when they were already down 4 goals
From a 6 game winning streak to a 5 game losing streak, just brutal
It’s the Panthers turn now!
I think the Islanders have changed a bit. The shots against are way down, Moving Brock Nelson to the Horvat line, and the other lines are flourishing. Plus they have won 4 in a row
They’ve won 5 in a row
The League is very unpredictable, just like my power rankings.
Bedard and Macklin Celebrini will be playing together next season. Good Lord!!!
Yeah florida looks pretty good.
There is absolutely no way Dallas is 11th. Sure they've had to fight back after giving up leads. Leads they shouldn't have had to fight back against. But. They. Fought. Back.
They've won five in a row. They've won by dominating. They've won by staying in the fight. They've won through depth. They've won even with injuries. I mean 11th? Come on...
Only 4 regulation wins in 12 games
@@maxfish4270 they're on a 5 game win streak
6-3-1 in their last 10
40-17-9 on the season
1st in the division, 2nd the conference and only WPG can unseat them currently as they have 2 games in hand.
No way Dallas is 11th
LTIR: I'd like to see it so that every six games missed in the regular season is one game you can't play in the playoffs.
Sabres are coming.....
#1 goalie since Jan 1st
It saddens me that the NJD used to be #1 on that board many months ago..
@@blackenedmagic888The fact that the Leafs struggle in big divisional rivalry games is exactly why they should have fallen further in the power rankings. These are the games where teams are actually trying their hardest to win, and when that is the case, this Leafs team just doesn't hold up to scrutiny.
7-2-1 vs 6-3-1 is not a significant difference. THG doesn't use the standings in his power rankings, but for what it's worth, Dallas is ahead of Carolina. As for the San Jose games, they took a couple nights off vs one of the worst teams in the league and won anyway; that's just normal behaviour for good teams at this point in the season.

They are about as close to even as possible in terms of results over that period, yet one sits 8 spots back of the other in the power rankings, with both in exactly the same spots they were when the period started.
@@jefflarson1652 Spanked by the Bruins? Obviously you didn't watch either of those games, did you? Yes, Boston won both games 4-1, but both games were a lot closer than the score indicated. And, as I stated, rivalries generally mean a tougher game for an opponent than playing a non-rival team - i.e.: the Islanders would most definitely play the Rangers a lot tougher than, say, Vancouver - and I imagine Shannon takes that into account as well.
Overall number of regulation wins means very little regarding Shannon's power rankings - as a regular here, you should know that.
@@blackenedmagic888 25-19-20, and regulation wins mean a lot to Shannon. He's clearly stated that OT/SO wins are seen as ties. Also, LOL at rivalry games. How many rivals do the Leafs have? Everyone who beats them?
Dallas beats up on bottom feeders, doesnt move up. Okay. I get it.
Colorado beats up on bottom feeders moves up 4 spots. ???
and Canucks beat LA, Vegas and Winnipeg and they only go to 6th???
TWO OT wins over San Jose isn't exactly what I'd call "beating up on a bottom feeder"...
@blackenedmagic888
I was mostly talking about the LA and Anaheim games.
@ANT4G0NIST I'll play devils advocate and say LA and Vegas have been pretty poor lately (big fan of what they did to Winnipeg though). Vancouver should absolutely be ahead of Colorado though. The only playoff team they beat was Detroit and right now it looks like a team of senior citizens could beat them.
LA isn’t a bottom feeder.
Flames have been playing OK (6-4-0), but went from 2 pts out to 8 pts out, effectively ending their season.
Yoooooo I see my team's Jersey :D lets gooooooooooo. ❤❤❤ Thanks, as always, for your power rankings :3
Nashville didn't really lose that game, that 1 in a million bounce of the boards doesnt deserve to hurt anyone's impression of how well the Preds are playing
Nope and then the lose today was absolutely crazy the wild pulling the goalie in OT I didn’t even know a team could do that
Thank you, much appreciated, heading into playoffs in 2 weeks, will be busy doing analytic crunching ,this helps tremendously
Carolina gets the opportunity to prove they should be #1 with games against the Rangers and Panthers. Let’s go Canes!
It will be more than a bit interesting to see what impact Guentzel and Kuznetsov have on their goal production. Hopefully, their scoring will improve a lot. Freddy looked pretty good in his first start, but games against NYR and FLA will be telling. GO CANES!
When you talk about the bottom sixteen I keep saying Canucks. :) Miracle that they are not. Since you explain the rankings, I love to listen why you put teams on the board. Very cool. Thank you and have a good day.
We're so back.
Can't wait for the Canucks and Avs to play again this week, but sucks that the Canucks are going to be without Demko. Wanted to see another even match between the top dogs in the west
Canucks can use that as as excuse in case they lose to the Avs. Kind of like how the jets fans use for their excuse for losing.
Canucks have 3 days off after today. If Demko is as minor as they say he is, he may actually play, which is crazy.
You’ll be getting the Avs on a b2b and in general, they haven’t been very good on the road. Lots of new faces though and Nuke back so who knows but I’d feel pretty good about this one if I were a Nucks fan.
